Title: .//. Finding Soul

The shapeshifter sat at the base of the volcano. She let its constant rumbling overwhelm her. Zivilan didn't know what she was doing here, only that it somehow gave her comfort. The constantly moving land almost reminded her of the sea; and the Gods knew how much the sorceress loved the sea. Not only that, but she loved any aspect of nature, only the sea stood out more than the rest. Zivilan laid back against the ashen earth, imagining the growing movements of the ground was a storm drawing near to her ship... And she was calling orders to her crew, determined to head into the eye of the fierce storm.
A tug at her hair made Ivi jump. Her heart raced until she saw it was just Zaerylee. The pixie stood on the ground and tapped her foot impatiently. Zivilan frowned and looked up at the smoking volcano before shaking her head. "Don't worry Zae, it's not erupting... yet." Ivi grinned as Zae rolled her eyes and zipped away to explore. The sorceress was left alone, lying back once more. Only this time she didn't daydream. Her golden eyes stared up at the black smoke billowing up and out of the volcano, just a symbol of the fiery mountain's inner power. Volcanoes were the true essence of soul and spirit.
A lazy smile etched onto Ziv's face and she waved a hand idly above her, while the other was behind her head. The sorceress spoke a few words and the hand in the air alighted with a small spark of flame. The sparks danced on her hand before jumping and dancing in the wind until they became cinders. Ivi watched as the cinders fell to the black earth. With another motion of her free hand, she spoke another few words, coaxing vines up from the ground. Normally the spell was to tangle an opponent up in the vines, but Ivi enjoyed just watching the vines dance as she told them to. Finally she let the vines go and they collapsed to the ground. The shapeshifter then put both hands behind her head, not seeming to mind how hard the earth was, or that the rumblings were getting more intense. In fact, the movements seemed to be calming to her; soon, Ivi didn't even think to wonder where Zae had gone, she was in such a calm state of mind.
Valdearg - June 30, 2005 04:34 AM (GMT)
Valdearg sat calmly on the ledge that overlooked the base of the volcano, not worried in the least about the rumblings of the volcano. While occasionally it might erupt, it was rare and rarer still that the eruption proved to be dangerous to the dragons. At the moment, his attention was caught by a female that was laying at the base of the volcano, amusing herself with small bits of magic. His sharp eyes picked out a few details as he wondered why she was there and who she was. It wasn't often that any humans came near to the volcano, they were too afraid of the dragons and the threat of an eruption. So while he normally wouldn't have been concerned with a human, his curiousity had been aroused. Stretching out his wings, he got up onto his feet, stretching to erase the discomfort from moving limbs that had been immobile for several hours. With the cracking of several joints, he felt ready enough to take off, and crouched down, throwing himself into the air with a powerful leap.
Exerting just enough energy to remain hovering, Valdearg swiftly moved forward, letting himself slowly drift down to where the woman was laying. Hopefully his descent wouldn't scare her off, and even if it did, he could probably catch her. He wasn't overly concerned if she thought he was attacking and tried to defend herself with magic. Besides from having innate magic of his own, he had learned several spells that would help him stop her. He also hoped that it wouldn't come to that, all that was really on his mind was some conversation with someone that he didn't know. Talking to the other dragons was all fine and good, but over time you ran out of things to discuss. Humans tended to have a different view point on things that made even the same conversation more interesting.
Making sure that he was landing a ways away from her, Valdearg slowly lowered himself to the ground, landing with a slight crunching of rocks underneath him. Folding his wings neatly against his back, Valdearg began walking to where he had spotted the woman, keeping his head high so that he could spot her easily. He was making no effort to conceil his approach, so with each step several rocks were reduced to pebbles, and his tail made a continuous noise as it dragged against the ground.

Zivilan closed her eyes, nearly falling alseep until a shadow passed over her. At first she thought it was a darker cloud of smoke, but then she felt something on the ground other than rumbling.... or was it rumbling? Zivilan peeked open a golden eye to see if the Volcano was about to erupt or if someone was approaching. Seeing a form coming closer, Ivi opened both eyes and sat up stiffly, back aching from lying on the hard and sharp ground. It was too much work to stand up, so the sorceress just sat there on the ground, eyeing the dragon suspiciously. Her first main instinct was to run, but she wasn't a fool and knew the dragon could catch up with her if he wanted. So she didn't move. And she also highly doubted that her spells would be any use against him, since she had only just learned them and he was a dragon, who had probably been practicing magic since who-knows-when. So, seeing that there was really nothing to do in defense of herself, Ivi decided to give the dragon a chance. Perhaps he hadn't come to reduce her to cinders.
Ivi smirked, stretching but remaining on the ground. She was still slightly groggy from sleep and was too lazy to stand. Glancing about idly, she wondered where her pixie was. Hopefully not doing anything stupid. Which was probably very likely. Ivi leaned back and placed her hands on the ground to hold herself up. After watching the volcano for so long a sense of strength and peace had settled in her mind, which was why she was acting so calmly to the dragon's appearance. She blinked her golden gaze as the crack and thump of the ground became louder. As this happened, Ivi decided to stand just so she wouldn't feel small. Leaning farther back, she kicked her feet into the air, landing on her feet in a kneeling position. Bringing herself upright, Ivi stretched even more. Who knew lying on the base of a Volcano could make you so stiff?
As the dragon drew nearer, Zivilan made a small bow, face alight with a grin. She rested both hands on her hips, noticing a small shimmer in the air near the dragon. Looking a little shocked, Ivi whistled as sharp as she could, and the shimmer drew near her. The 'shimmering air' turned out to be her pixie, Zaerylee. Zae frowned at Ivi, as if asking why she had ruined the fun. Ivi gave the pixie a stern look and whispered, "NO messing with dragons, guardians, or Gods or Goddess. Got that?" The pixie groaned at this, but nodded slowly. Satisfied, the sorceress returned her attention to the Dragon. "'Lo, dragon. I'm called Ilan, and my pixie is Zae. Who are you and what brings you to greet me? Her voice was loud so that it carried over the earth's rumbling. Ivi prayed silently that the dragon hadn't come to attack, but she kept that look out of her eyes.
Valdearg - June 30, 2005 05:36 AM (GMT)
Valdearg watched the woman and her pixie carefully. While Valdearg might have been slightly irritated, he wouldn't have been angry at whatever prank the pixie had planned. Not that that could be said about other dragons. While his eyes were examining every inch of the woman, from the clothes she wore to her face, he listened to what she was saying. He was surprised that she appeared as calm as she was. While it might have been an elaborate mask, she held it up very well. After a few seconds of silence that past when Ilan finished speaking, Valdearg spoke, his voice casual and friendly. "Hello Ilan and Zae, my name is Valdearg." Valdearg lowered his head in a bow, being formal so that he wouldn't frighten her away. Normally such formality was reserved for the visit of a dragon of high status, but Valdearg had found that it helped in the beginning of a conversation so that no one was too nervous. After that, things became more relaxed and friendly. Valdearg's eyes moved back and forth between the two of them, trying to guess what they were thinking. Some people were very obvious, showing their emotions on their faces, it would be easier for him if she turned out to be one of those people.
"As to why I am down here, it is because I have never seen you before. I like to at least know everyone that crosses the volcano. In fact, I make it my business to meet everyone. Travelers carry news that can help us sometimes, and it is worth the time it takes to convince the people I am not going to eat them." Valdearg allowed a dry chuckle to escape his lips, remembering easily several occasions where he had been forced to point out that if he had wanted to eat the people, then he would have just dropped down and snatched them in his jaws, not giving them a chance.
"It is odd to see a human laying calmly at the base of a volcano, so I came down to get a closer look at you. A volcano isn't one of the best vacation spots in the world, especially since it could erupt at any time." While Valdearg held no love for humans, he didn't wish them harm either. If they were foolish enough to try and attack him, then he would deal with them accordingly, but travelers who just happened to be there didn't deserve his malice. Still, he had to occasionally remind himself of that fact because of some of the attitudes of the travelers he met. It was a prevailing attitude that anything that wasn't human was inferior and didn't deserve to be noticed, let alone talked to. Valdearg had fixed anyone with that attitude rather quickly, making it clear that he could easily snap a human in half if he felt like it. "Now, why are you here?"
