Title: Laptop Problems
Lothlómendil - November 23, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
So, my roommate spilled water all over my laptop while I was in class today and fried it good. My brand new, expensive, high-performance laptop that is ridiculously important to me for more than just Arda - school assignments and friends and everything. But it gets worse! She cleaned it all up and then left quickly before I came home from class, and didn't tell me about it. So when I got home I found my laptop off or something and thought that our kitten had just managed to turn it off again. But when I started it up it was just a blank screen, then a horrible crackling noise, and that's when I noticed little drips of water that my roommate had missed when attempting to hide the evidence. It was so messed up it wouldn't even turn off, I had to take out the battery to make it stop. :( Since she was unbelievable enough to not even tell me about it, I may have unintentionally messed it up more by trying to turn it on. >:( And since we are now on Thanksgiving break, her disappearing act means we don't have to see each other for 4 or so days. Needless to say, I'm in a very bad mood, and won't have much internet time. I'm at home for the holiday on my mom's computer, but it's junk and she needs to use it anyway. So yeah, I'll be working some stuff out and not on all that much, methinks. Very uncool, fricking unbelievable. >:(

Holy moley. Has she at least admitted to it now? Holy man... I can't even believe it. Is it still on warentee or something? :console:
I'll do the best I can to help.

Well, like I said, everyone went home for Thanksgiving break today so she ran away in time to avoid me. I haven't seen her, but there's no doubt about who did it and when. The wet napkins from cleaning up the mess were still in the trash, and my laptop can't randomly get fried by a spill on its own and leave no water anywhere. Fortunately, yes, it is still under warranty but I have no idea what their policy is on this kind of situation and what they can do about it. I don't want my laptop "fixed" if it is fried, because when you "fix" computers they never work flawlessly again after that, there is always some problem or another. I won't be putting up with that, this was a brand new, high-performance laptop in mint operational condition - I won't settle for less than another new laptop, paid for by my rommate, if mine is toast.

I feel for you. My CPU was stolen last Wednesday when ten men dressed in military gear broke into the house at 6am in the morning and well... performed a robbery. They were clearly armed and we couldn't do a thing. Surreal I know, yet apparently they have been watching us for months. Hence my recent decline in activity considering what we think they did to the phone line. =\

I'll continue to try to do whatever I can to help Arda, and I hope that things get better before too long.

Holy crap, Obs, that's a lot more serious than a roommate spilling stuff! I hope everything is okay with you guys, and that some theft and breaking things was all that happened. I can't imagine what that must be like, good luck with getting everything sorted and staying safe. :console:

Awesome news, guys! :w00t: After letting my laptop dry thoroughly for 2 days, everything is back in perfect operational condition! ^_^!! This is good news not only for me, but for my roommate, for now her life is spared. :D

Yeah. It looks like we wouldn't be heading back home just yet. Rumors state that they're still lurking around, parking where they shouldn't be. Mom is still the most affected, but at least no one was physically harmed. The bulk of the expensive items though were generally mine. CPU, digital video camera... >.< my files!!!! my precious files!!!
Oi you're pretty lucky in getting your laptop working seeing that the board chips coulda been fried for good!

Just hope there isn't any permanent damage. *crosses fingers*
This reminds me of the time my boss drove over my friend's laptop in an F250. It was so funny.
