Title: A difficult ordeal

Lance - October 22, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
It had been a few weeks since his most recent visit to his home, the Underworld, and now the shadow fiend in human form known as Lance had once again gained full control over the darkness that had been slowly rebuilding inside him to retain his full human form. Not that he was a human to begin with, but it wouldn't be wise to travel around in his true form.

But then, it didn't seem wise to travel around this area either. Looking up through the trees in moderate surprise, he quickly dodged to the side as a number of arrows wizzed by where he was just standing, their shooters clearly more than ready to strike him down. Elves...he didn't have to use his special senses to know that. It seemed he was intruding on their territory, but that didn't matter to him right now. There was something here that he wanted to check out, and he wouldn't let some forest-dwelling archers stop him.

Stepping out from behind the tree he'd just used as cover, his left hand on the hilt of the katana sheathed at his right side, he immediately saw the arrows coming for him and, with a move nearly as fast as lightning, suddenly had his sword in his hand out to his opposite side. With the delayed reaction from such a move, the arrows split and scattered in mid-air, and the tree slowly fell to the ground.

"I'm not here to fight anyone, I just want to see something," he called out, in a voice that could match his appearance.

Kenyari had been searching for something all of his life. He always followed his intuition and his gut feelings. Something in his gut lead him to the entrance of the forest where the great Elvin city lays. He had wondered in the forest for days not seeing anyone or anything yet. He had admired the forest itself and was in no real hurry to try to find what he needed. He liked the peacefulness of the forest itself.

Kenyari continued to walk when he thought he heard the sound of something being shot off. It was a faint sound so he didn’t really think much into it but directly after he thought he heard the faint sound of someone behind him. Kenyari unsheathed his sword preparing for the unknown. He knew that the elves wouldn’t take him being there lightly and would accept the fact that he was there.

Kenyari had walked slowly in the direction that he heard the mans sound. Suddenly he heard a loud crash. He suddenly ran towards the crash only to be halted quickly with a arrow to the shoulder. He looked up but saw no one there but he knew they were up there. The arrow didn’t cut too deep and it wasn’t very serious. He pulled the arrow out as he continued to run in the direction. As he ran his ears picked up the slight sound of another arrow being fired behind him. He quickly turned around and slashed at the incoming arrow before it hit him. Kenyari sighed as he rolled backwards as the next few arrows hit the ground.

"This is annoying." he said to himself picking himself up and continued to run in the direction of the crash. As he ran a figure started to slowly come into view. He came into full view of him as he had guessed that he was the reason that the tree had fallen. He paused for a moment looking at the tree which seemed to have been cut with one swift strike. As he stood still another arrow was shot off. He looked back only to take it in the same shoulder he was hit in.

"I’m sick of this already" he said out loud looking back at the man and then back at the tree tops. "I wonder what he’s here for. Has he heard about it also?" he thought to himself. "It doesn’t matter, there’s no time to be sitting here standing still with them shooting us." he sighed to himself again looking in the treetops ready to attack back.

Apparently letting his words go unnoticed, the archers in the trees continued to fire off their arrows, which was slowly beginning to annoy him. He couldn't let himself get too angry, not here, not before he even got into the elven city. But if they weren't going to let him in this easy way, he'd just have to take the other easy way in, which was just as effective for him.

Ignoring for now the other nearby presence he felt in the forest, Lance began jumping along the high, thick branches of the trees, apparently having gotten up there in a short time despite no signs of teleportation or any flight abilities. He did have the former to an extent, though only through shadows, and he definitely had the latter, though his method of flight he preferred to hide from the world lest they find out what he was. Not that it was too much of a problem for him any more, but he liked it better if others simply thought he was a human like he appeared.

Weaving to the side from time to time, receiving a few small cuts from the arrows flying at him almost constantly, he was finally struck in the heart by a well-placed shot from an archer he was nearing, though even this didn't seem to bother him much. Glancing down to the arrow sticking out of his chest as the other archers stopped for the sake of seeing if he would simply die, he grabbed it with his right hand and pulled it out with one quick motion, wincing only slightly, no sign of blood anywhere.

Sure, it wasn't as if he didn't have any vital points, nor was this the best way to show that he wasn't a human, but his core, the equivalent of the heart, lied elsewhere in his body, the only thing showing in the wounds being blackness that seemed to drift out at a very slow rate and disippate, the very dark energy that made up his entire being. "Well, now that you know what I am, I think it's about time you stopped shooting at me," he said, but instead the archers brought out another arrow each, changing the point at which they were aiming. They knew... "Perfect..." he muttered.

Kenyari searched the treetops as the barrage of arrows kept coming. He jumped back dodging the arrows but got caught in the back of the leg. Kenyari tripped and fell as he noticed the other figure wasn’t responding to him. Kenyari quickly pulled out the arrows in his leg as he rolled left dodging more arrows hat were shot at him.

"Damn how may of them are in the trees" he said getting angry. He stood up and used his sword to start slicing down the arrows that were coming towards him. Kenyari turned to look where the man was standing. The man had jumped up and started a aerial pursuit of the elves in the trees.

Suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his forearm. He turned away from he man quickly and looked at his arm only to see 3 arrows hit him. He looked up at the elves in the tree with nothing but anger in his eyes. His eye color was starting to turn a dark maroon color as he looked back at the man. He saw the man get shot with the arrow that looked to be in his heart from where he stood. The man kept going even with the blow and at that moment Kenyari knew that he couldn’t have been a human.

"Time to get rid of these elves so I can finish what i came here for" he said softly to himself as he ran up to the tree. He stuck his sword in the tree and used it to launch himself into the air. He pulled the sword out behind him and while he was air borne he planted his feet on the tree and pushed off with tremendous strength. He soared through the air as he came up to the next tree. He pushed off of that tree the same as he did the other. He had already made it more than halfway up to the top of tree with little ease. A group of the elves stood directly ahead of him. The group fired at him but he knocked them all down with his sword. He landed on the branch that was directly behind them as he slashed at them quickly killing them instantly. He took a glance over at the other person but quickly turned back to the other group of elves above him.

"How many of them are there" he said to himself as he prepared himself to launch himself at them again.

Glancing briefly off to the side as he knocked the nearest elf that had hit him down from the tree branches, he felt a few life forces beginning to disappear. Whoever else was here, they weren't exactly taking the more peaceful way through this barrage of archers and arrows, but unfortunately now wasn't the time for him to concern himself with that. There was something in the elven city, Yomeniampa, that he had to take care of before it caused problems, and it seemed he'd probably have to get there before whoever else was here.

Letting his mind wander slightly for a few moments, he continued to jump now boredly from branch to branch, having to stop and evade from time to time, knocking down a few more archers...they'd each likely be incapacitated, but not slain. Finally now that he was noticing, he saw the outskirts of the forest city and changed direction slightly, going almost straight for it with the exception of having to change his path from time to time to keep his movements from becoming predictable.

After a few more jumps, he was at the outer wall, and looked back to see what was happening further behind him, and particularly to find out who else was coming. Although at the moment he wasn't completely sure what he'd do about it...he didn't particularly want the elves to be slain, but he also wanted to get to what was waiting in the city quickly. Time would tell, he supposed...but for now, he'd wait.

Kenyari stopped on the branch in which he had slain the elves. He looked up as another swarm of arrows came his way. He lifted his sword up and blocked them. "They just won’t stop" he said as a arrow hit him in the leg but did little damage. He looked over at the man who seemed to be in a hurry. "Is he after the same thing I am" he said to himself as he looked back and knocked down another arrow that had come his way.

He had planted himself as he jumped dodging a few more arrows as he pushed himself off of the tree propelling himself towards the group of elves that was above him. He swatted down the arrows that headed his way as he came closer to them. He was high from the ground now and he knew he either had to be careful or he would fall a long ways down. He came up to the elves that seemed to have taken out short swords to try to take him down. He quickly strikes down the first two as they fell from the tree. An elf came behind him trying to cut near his throat. Kenyari ducked as he gutted him and turned around with a uppercut to the face from the last elf.

He had slain all four not caring too much. They didn’t value his life so he saw no reason to really value there’s. He looked back over to the man who was not that farther up than he was. He jumped and pushed off again, but this time aiming himself towards the man.

"Hey wait up." Kenyari said hoping the man would stop. As he soared through the airs toward him he wiped the sweat and small amount of blood from off of his face as he pushed off of the next tree still heading towards the man. The elves seemed to have stopped shooting and he wondered why but right now wasn’t the time to try to find out. He was in search of something and if the man was here for the same thing then he would have to beat him seeing as the man wouldn’t stop to talk.

"Hey wait up," the other man that was here, a half-demon it seemed now that Lance bothered to learn what he was, called out, and Lance glanced back with his one good eye after stopping at the entrance to the city. It seemed now that they were both near it the guards had decided to stop, probably to leave them to whatever guards were very likely stationed at various points within the city, blending in with the crowd no doubt. Elves may've been arrogant, but they weren't by any means stupid.

"So, a half-demon, huh? Ordinarily I'd ask what brings you over here, but I have a feeling I already know, leaving only the question of why you're after it," Lance said, noticing that this man wasn't in very good condition at the moment, arrow wounds on various places of his body. Thus, if he was here for the opposite reason that Lance was, and it came down to a challenge of any kind, he wasn't exactly in any condition to be much of a challenger, unless he healed himself or did something similar.

(eh...shorter than I wanted...)
