Title: Enchant boats?

Captain Flint - September 24, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
Would we be able to enchant our ships for a little more price, so that they can fly above the water?? (Think Peter Pan)

Either it could be a spell, or could simply be stated with the ship description that if you want it to also be able to fly then you have to pay X ammount more.

Comments?

Demetrio Vasquez - September 24, 2006 09:55 AM (GMT)
I noticed that cannons aren't for sale either. But that would be awesome!

I think that would be nice, especially if the ship could be submerged. True submarine combat! :D

Charlotte - September 24, 2006 02:54 PM (GMT)
Meh, It would all be very cool...Mebbe these new things could be gnomish creations?

Demetrio Vasquez - September 24, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
You mean there's a gnome shop? Mario would be plundering them instantly!

Although there should be at least some limitations, like the ship is only able to hover or something like that. Or you can only have one ability. The ship can fly or submerge.

Thats very PoTC: Dead mans chest hehe

Although it is a cool idea.

Dengar - September 26, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
The cannon suggestion has already been tried and denied, but other 'abilities' for ships could be really interesting

Obsidian Nocturne - September 26, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
actually, any gunpowder-related weapon has thus far been denied--- it's pretty logical considering our theme of manual hack and slash ;)

Dengar - September 26, 2006 02:53 PM (GMT)
Loth said she might come up with a magical explanation why we have gunpowder :D But that's beside the point:

Suggest some more ship abilities!

Obsidian Nocturne - September 26, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
Actually it could be a general spell... but I thought it would be nice if a ship had the ability to morph in appearance even if it were only to be an illusion that vanishes after a certain period of time in order to deceive pursuers.

Kieraline - September 26, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Oooooo, having just listened to a Terry Brooks book (for the third time!), I can definitely see some interesting ideas for ships! Since we have ships, it would be really, really awesome to have an airship option. They don't run by modern means, so they could fit into the magical and hack'n'slash theme. Also, the ability to enchant the ship with protective magics, such as the Galaphile (sp?, since I listened, instead of read the book) being protected by Druid magic.

Not only could we have the ability to sink or fly, there could be protective magics, offensive magics and also enhancements such as travel speed adjustments, additional armor and such all purchasable.

Tetra Hikaru - September 26, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
A big hammer to summon the Kraken

Demetrio Vasquez - September 27, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
A hammer? Why not a bell, as if to signify "Chow Time!"

Obsidian Nocturne - September 27, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
I think the Kraken summoning was suggested before and was rendered too powerful for its own sake :geek:

Yeah, it is really powerfull and the only reason i said a hammer is because the impact would send vibrations through the sea to signal the Kraken ^_^

Captain Flint - September 27, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately summoning a kraken is also not allowed :(

Tetra Hikaru - September 27, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, then how about a Mana Cannon.

Mana Cannon - This type of weapon must charge each time before it is shot. It can take 5 mins to charge, after 5 mins the cannon is at full power and can blast one round of the Magic Missle spell.

Obsidian Nocturne - September 27, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
 I think you just twisted the idea of a regular cannon minus the gunpowder :p

Tetra Hikaru - September 27, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Exactly, thus making it Magical in a way that may be good for the site. Think about it. Its like you are casting the spell, but through a cannon like shell.

Obsidian Nocturne - September 27, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
why not just cast the enhanced and more powerful version of magic missile? I think there's a feat for that.. might even be faster with a "quicken spell" ;)

Tetra Hikaru - September 27, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
Im just trying to think of ways for SHIPS to obtain more power, not people.

Obsidian Nocturne - September 27, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile, I am merely thinking of a cheaper and more -efficient- version of the suggestion you provided.

Demetrio Vasquez - September 28, 2006 11:35 AM (GMT)
That works, but it might be difficult and expensive. I think that a self-steering ship or a strangely concious or possessed ship would be pretty cool though.

Zenith Meria - September 28, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
That would be a good idea, but alot of people get the ship in order to steer it.

Obsidian Nocturne - September 30, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
Chameleon - a ship ability which allows it to vanish for a good three minutes. Can only be done once every topic.

Zenith Meria - September 30, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
Sounds good.

Pulse - A ship ability that lets the ship send out a pulse wave into the waters in order to make a tidal wave in the direction the pulse was sent.

Obsidian Nocturne - September 30, 2006 01:56 PM (GMT)
After looking around in the shops, I thought telescopes, compasses and perhaps fishing nets can also be included as shipping supplies.

Zenith Meria - September 30, 2006 02:05 PM (GMT)
Oooooh nice :D

OOOOOOOOOH HARPOON GUNS hehehe

Obsidian Nocturne - September 30, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
hehe we might as well have uber harpoon guns that allow one ship to anchor itself to another without having to be exactly beside it.

Zenith Meria - September 30, 2006 02:19 PM (GMT)
That would be cool, like the front of the ship could open up for a large harpoon cannon to come out and BAM!!!

Seria Sentrandai - October 1, 2006 03:31 AM (GMT)
Huh, maybe we should get a grappling hook? Like the one Craft wants?

Although, I think that we should have the legendary Earth Keel upgrade for ships, that allows them to traverse dry land.

Tilorn - October 1, 2006 10:02 AM (GMT)
well why not make use of the spell grapple the map spell's its all usefull stuff for a ship. Making a harpoon cannon is a bit much when you have perfectly usefull spells. :)

Zenith Meria - October 1, 2006 10:45 AM (GMT)
True ^_^ I know what im saving for Tetra now.

Obsidian Nocturne - October 1, 2006 02:51 PM (GMT)
it would be effective if the ship had a grappling ability instead since it's likely that a person will get dragged by the opposing vessel than his original intent on stopping it in its tracks.--- unless your ship had like fifty crew members who cast the grapple spell at the same time.

Demetrio Vasquez - October 2, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
((Looks like you double clicked Obs! tsk tsk!))

Anyways, how about a ship that can have an iron hull instead of wood? Like the USS Constitution or Old Ironsides! It virtually deflected cannonballs back in the revolutionary war.

Captain Flint - October 7, 2006 11:40 AM (GMT)
Nice ideas! I particularly like the following:

Hull strengthening (Wood to Iron, Iron to steel)
Ship grapple thing (Maybe some kind of magical magnetism?)
Chameleon (a temporary invisibility spell on the ship)
Ship Improvements (Small spells or items which can make ships faster/stronger)
Flying boats (So pirates can make attacks on big cities which aren't surrounded by water...)

Ita the Reckless - October 7, 2006 01:23 PM (GMT)
*Ita the Reckless stumbles into this topic after wondering how a suggestion could be so good that it's gone on for three pages.

Flying ships, eh? Well, now that you mention it, I will consider possibly adding some different types of offensive airships to my deity shop. If Loth lets me. And if I can find any suitable images.

*Ita the Reckless disappears.

Liara - October 8, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
:grr: The sea would be mine. Don't be steal ma money it-it....

B-but airships fly in the air. o_o And I'd be using them to pour hot liquids on hapless citizens from above, or maybe transport Blood Ravens across Arda so they can do evil stuff.

Well, maybe not all Blood Ravens. Tithy would have to walk. :r

Alright, sorry for straying off topic a little there, carry on!

Demetrio Vasquez - October 9, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
Oh! We could be dirigibles connected to the ship!

But the question is how would they move? Magic?
