Title: New Races/Classes
Description: for character selection

Malefor - July 23, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
I know any member can play as any race, as long as it does not have any divine lineage. But for those who can't think of any new race and is not satisfied with the current race listing, are we allowed to suggest new races? For additions in the getting started thread :D

We could incorporate the races already used by most of the players, like the Vulpines and other Humanoids. These new races help give new players more variety in choosing their character.

As for the classes, I was hoping of adding a description to them, so people could better see what they want in a character. I know the names speak for themselves, but it would provide a better picture of what their character would turn out to be.

Comments? Sorry I don't have samples to prove it yet, I'm still thinking of names.

Dengar - July 23, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
Maybe add a Lizarian to the list to encourage new players to enjoy the reptillian race.

Tithy - July 23, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
Make Chaos Elementals official!

Kuja - July 23, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
We could add Terion as a Race

and Red Chaos Knight as a Class lol

Sanzen - July 24, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
Well, maybe some group could be set up, and all they do is sit down and provide the admin with new descriptions for races and such. The Lizarian and Elementals are good, as well as the Vulpines and such. Maybe some D&D mixed races could be added. Or some more monster-like races for those who want to play some destructive force?

As for the classes, I know this would be limiting but wouldn't it be better if they had descriptions? I mean, some of the classes can be defined by their names alone, but for those unsure, a short description of what they do might be helpful. Sounds good?

Avénnian - July 25, 2006 08:43 PM (GMT)
Actually, I think that a description for the classes would be very helpful, just so that newcomers, and even those that make alternates, will have a clear definition of what each class is.

Tithy - July 26, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
Aye.

A class I thought of, which is not official, but very commonly used:

Battlemage. Ita, Tith, Dengar, and many others are all of this class type.
Basically a battlemage uses spells (usualy area-of-effect) in a means that make melee weapons not entirely necesary, except in certain cases...

What's a Terion? Forgive my ignorance.

I'd like to see a tactician class, a dirty fighter class, a hunter class... just throwing them out there.

Captain Flint - July 26, 2006 02:02 PM (GMT)
Well if this were to happen, then we would need to right the descriptions ourselves, seeing as the admins have a lot of work on their hands already.

Charlotte - July 26, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
Or B: We could just put down these are a list of suggestions, and you do not need to follow them, instead of going through the trouble of having the uberclass and race list...

Avénnian - July 26, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
I think he made terion up.

Dengar - July 27, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
Great stuff Aven! I would have helped out, but WOW! That's great :D

Sanzen - July 27, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
The descriptions are good, they at least give the players a good idea of what the class does :p Nice work Aven....

Hmmm what about any new classes/races?

For new races I have no names yet but maybe there could be humanoid types of animals, similar to lupines. Humanoid cats, etc seem like a good idea (Feline sounds... wrong, so scratch that for a name)

Dengar's Lizarian suggestion sounds nice, or maybe there could be other kinds of elves such as Wood Elves (those who are nomadic, and are attuned with nature) or Ice Elves (Elves who have become accustomed to the cold, causing their skin and hair to reflect the chilly blue hue that is their home)

Any comments? I know they're rough, but I guess this should get things going...

Obsidian Nocturne - July 28, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
I think the details on races would be difficult to plug in since people have their own interpretations of each.

Sanzen - July 29, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
It would depend on the race being suggested. If it was a unique race (completely original) then there would be little room for differences, since the player is the only one who conceived the idea. But if it were something like the vulpines or lizarians, then some race description from a fantasy novel could be adopted (if allowed) and that could be the common description. It would of course have to be agreed upon by the people who were involved with the suggestion.

More classes:
  • Barbarian - wild warriors who are at home in uncivilized areas
  • Shaman - spiritual leaders of native tribes and villages
  • Battlemage - deadly combination of fighter and spellcaster
  • Temple Knight - warrior dedicating himself to a patron deity, and serving that deity
  • Alchemist - diligent student of potion handling and making
  • Occultist - dabbles in dark and demonic magic
  • Vampire Slayer - a hunter of vampires
  • Inquisitor - hunts and roots out all forms of evil magic

For the cat / Human thingy. In most Anime shows they are called Nekos.

Also to answer Aloric, Yes i made Terion up lol.

Emm here is a description O-o

Terion - These being use to be hunted within Arda and thus were sent into hiding. The Terions are beings that look like humans but are able to channel a power known as Trance. They can only turn into there Trance from through a large emotional build up such as Anger or even Love. Through years of training some Terions are also able to use Trance whenever they want to... the only known Terion of being able to this, that is known so far, is Kuja.

It might not be good, it was just quickly done.

Avénnian - July 31, 2006 05:29 AM (GMT)
I like those classes, Sanz. Here are a few others:
  • Sage - One venerated for experience, judgment, and wisdom.
  • Monk - A man who is a member of a brotherhood living in a monastery and devoted to a discipline prescribed by his order
  • Saint - One holy by profession and by covenant
  • Prophet/ess - A person who speaks by divine inspiration or as the interpreter through whom the will of a god is expressed.
  • Seer/ess - A person with unusual powers of foresight.
  • Cavalier - A gallant or chivalrous man, especially one serving as escort to a woman of high social position; a gentleman.
  • Merchant - One whose occupation is the wholesale purchase and retail sale of goods for profit.
  • Blacksmith - One that forges and shapes iron with an anvil and hammer.
  • Alchemist - A practitioner of alchemy.
  • Adventurer - One that seeks adventure, and usually enjoys taking risks.

That's about . The ones I particularly thought we could use are the sage, saint, prophet/ess (and/or seer/ess), alchemist, and adventurer.

Dengar - August 5, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
Merlin's an Alchemist...

Anyway, here's a description for a Lizarian if you wanna chuck it in there:

Lizarian/Lizardfolk
Either large and Brutal or thin and sneaky, the lizardfolk live in jungles, caves, rainforests and even in deserts. They are normally a war loving race and are very primitive creatures. Most have tails and skin colour can vary.

Albeiro - August 5, 2006 03:16 PM (GMT)
Shuyin calls the half-cat race "Nekos." This is more of a description of cats (especially in anime), and it would confuse some people. Feline Anthropomorphs is a much better name for them in my opinon.

Classes? Well, how I've got one.

Insane - Something just isn't right with these people. Unpredictable, irrational, and delusional, most people don't get to know them. They're actually quite friendly if you don't mind that their connection to reality is shaky at best.

Malefor - August 5, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
Nice description Dengar :p

Hmmm does the concept of importing the DnD races appeal to most? I mean, there are a LOT of races that would seem fitting, it would really help most newbies pick out a race they like...

And I know this might seem to complicate things, but wouldn't it be slightly better if there are types of humans? I mean, like those whom have a natural affinity with nature, being born and raised in rural villages and communities close to forests... and humans whom have developed strong resistances to nausea and noxious fumes, being raised in swamplands and marshes? These concepts tend to expand more on the human, though it could get confusing :(

Albeiro - August 5, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
No opinion on the DnD races, though I'm always on the side of diversity.

As for the human-type races, I believe that that's what skills or feats are for, Malefor.

Sanzen - August 6, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
When I meant races, I mean subcultures of humans. Skills and feats are somewhat symbolic for being "trained" and represent experience in the character. The human subtypes I was referring to appear human, but due to some condition or event they have a slightly different physical appearance than other humans.

More Classes (Some have been used already, I think)
  • Summoner - one who specializes in calling out creatures to assist the character
  • Scout - one who uses physical speed and prowess to explore the land
  • Agent - a stealthy type who specializes in gathering information for others
  • Avenger - a knight who uses revenge and vengeance as motivations;
  • Jester - an entertainer who employs various tricks to amuse and baffle audiences
  • Acrobat - an entertainer who uses physical feats and moves to dazzle and amuse
  • Bounty Hunter - a mercenary who hunts down wanted people or those with a price on their heads

That doesn't seem to be much of a class, it's not as if people make there money by being insane... :poke:

I would say that was more of a personality trait.

Nilthorak - August 6, 2006 11:19 AM (GMT)
I can't see it more of even a race or class, but that would probably put it in Dengar's suggestion :p

Hmmmm is there any update from Loth? A more specified direction would be nice...

Some more Races (I've already mentioned some before):

  • Ice Elf - Elves who dwelled in icy regions and cold mountains, these have become attuned with the frozen wastes. Usually taller and fair-skinned, with hair of blue or white. They are slightly more slender than elves, but more reclusive and solitary than most.
  • Aquarian - A cross between humans and merfolk, these humans have skin that are almost scaly, though still soft to the touch. Some features if fish descent could be seen, like finlike ears and slightly webbed feet and toes. Though unable to stay in water for indefinite periods, they can survive longer and are more adapt in both water and land

Lothlómendil - August 7, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
Great work with this topic, guys! :w00t: I'll use some of your descriptions for classes, and I'll add an official Lizarian race and description to the list. :) I'll leave this open for more race/class suggestions and descriptions.

Edit for myself:

Sen Dumina - August 8, 2006 01:21 PM (GMT)
Might as well post my thoughts...

Class-Avian Rider: These sturdy warriors ride atop flying beasts, and are well suited to do so. They usually use polearms such as lances and spears.

Race- (I made this one up on my own site) Nalix-
Appearance/Abilities- This race has a slim frame that makes them appear almost delicate until you see their claws. The claws are retractable and are used with elegant precision. They have rough leathery fur that varies in color. Their face is reptilian-like with a delicate snout. They have almond slanted eyes that are very large. Their eyes can be seen in the dark . Two large fangs are visible when they talk, used for eating meat. Females have large glossy bat-like wings and can fly a considerable distance. Males have an extra retractable claw in their arm that can secrete a lethal poison.
Background- When Nalix came to Arda, the other races were understandably fearful of them. Unfortunately fear often leads to rash decisions and the Nalix were hunted and killed almost to extinction. They fled into the caves underneath Arda's surface. At night the adult Nalix swarm out to hunt and feed, usually on larger animals. When intruder enters their territory they ambush them. Nalix are often used in the assistance of dark warriors because of their lethal tendencies. Those people usually send them out on missions such as assassinations or scouting. Many of them remain in hiding, therefore it is very rare to see one in Arda.
Language- They speak their own language, demonic, and common
Favored Class- Rouges, Fighters and Mages
Age: Nalix can live up to seventy years of age and reach adulthood at fifteen.

Dengar - August 8, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
Drider
Half Drow, half spider, this race is shunned from the drow society and are looked upon as scum. Normally a Mage by class, they are a spiteful and bitter race in general.

Sanzen - September 1, 2006 07:54 AM (GMT)
More Classes: *apologies if some were repeated already*
  • Beastmaster - One who prefers the company of animals and protects the forests
  • Engineer - An artisan expert in construction and development of towns
  • Diviner - A magic user who specializes in fortune telling and farsight
  • Protector - A mercenary subset who specializes in keeping a particular target safe
  • Messenger - A person who delivers messages between parties / groups

Race:

Sapling

Born from seeds sown into the earth, these wooden tree giants grow up to 12 feet. They look exactly like great trees except for the humanoid features such as fingers and feet. Their hair are like soft branches and moss, with varying colors and shapes. They are slow-moving and are a little lacking in intelligence, but their old lifespan and immense strength make up for it.

Twinlight

Humanoids who dwell in the moon of Arda, they have blue skin and mostly light-colored hair, but usually white. They rarely leave their homeland, and know little of Arda as a whole. They have a slightly thin but more muscular physique, and have their own language seperate from common tongue.

Sorean - December 10, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)
I think there should be a valkyrie race like the ones from norse mythology, just with minor changes.
Valkyrie- Female Celestial warriors that serve the gods and goddesses of Arda. They are completely loyal to the god or goddess they serve. Each valkyrie has a chose as to which god they serve and depending on there chose would decide there ability.

For example, serving a god of nature will give u the power to control nature.
Here's what they might look like.
