Title: Banner Size

I have recently noticed that there has been a flurry of huge banners making it harder for people with slow internet to view the site.
I think that there should be a limit, maybe 500 x 500?
The size can be debateable, but the point is that some banners are just too big.

I agree with this, as it can be frustrating to have huge stretchy images wherever you look.

aye i find it annoying if i cant see the whole picture and have to actualy move the page to look at it. plus i find it a waist of post space... (along with having your inventory in your sig.. or just having everything in your sig to show off.)

I think 500 x 500 may still be too big... I suggest 500 x 250 at most

I think the limit should be 550 x 324 because that is roughly the size of my banner.

I don't really know the specific dimensions but as long as the banner does not reach the sides its alright. Maybe Dengar's sizes are a good choice, having a banner that is too tall would only make it difficult to view posts and such when half of the page is the character's sig...
Maybe the banner could be as big as the text box used to write replies? The size of that seems reasonable enough...

Is it even possible to limit a signature's size? I know you can do it with avatars, but I'm not so certain about the sig. You can limit the text though.

There really is no good way to enforce this kind of rule. I also don't like adding rules that aren't required to keep the board running smoothly. I do notice when people have incredibly large signatures, and often I PM people and ask them to reduce the size of their signatures. I think that should suffice.

I've been doing some testing stuff for the new board width, and I think I may have to implement a rule about banner sizes now. When I put in the new skin (which will be some time today, I think), I will have a new rule about limiting signature image width to 510 pixels or less. Images any larger than this will stretch the page with the new width, and it looks awful when that happens, so there now is a reason to enforce such a rule. 510 should be plenty anyhow.
