Title: New Rule

Lothlómendil - June 14, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
I have recently been seeing a lot of using "net-speak" in posts, where people use net abbreviations. For example: "sum 1 said something, ru there??" I have decided that this is so unsightly that it shouldn't be allowed. So I added a new rule disallowing the use of net-speak in posts, and making it a warnable offense. A large part of role-playing is about writing quality posts, and net-speak completely destroys that.

I also added a section to the RP Tips and ARP application about this, and also about using first person (when you say "I did this" instead of "my character did this"). Using first person is very unsightly as well, but at this time I won't make it against the rules.

Lastly, I removed one rule that I felt was kind of unneeded, the rule about avatars:
QUOTE
Your avatar cannot be inappropriate or distracting to other members. It does not have to reflect your character, but if a moderator feels that it is inappropriate in any way they have the right to ask you to either change or remove it. If the avatar is not changed, then you will receive a warning.

You still can't have inappropriate avatars, but that is covered by the section of the rules that says nudity and stuff isn't allowed. The rest of the rule is kind of a given, and not really something that needs to be an explicit rule.

Well net speak is not meant for writing anyway, so it is bothering when it is used to make quality posts. (Though I haven't seen anyone actually do that, yet) Thanks for the update Loth :D

Even though I'm not a huge fan of net-speak either, to clarify:

Is this IC posts only, or both IC and OOC posts where this rule applies?

The rule itself answers this question:

There is to be no "net-speak" in RP posts. Do not use abbreviations like "ur" and "sum1" or you will be warned. RPing is for proper writing.

This rule is for RP posts.
