Title: Arda Features
Description: Fun things you should know about & more

Lothlómendil - March 3, 2004 10:55 PM (GMT)
Arda has some extra features added to the board, little things to make RP and hanging around the board more fun. :)

[doHTML]

On your birthday, I will add a nice 100 gold to your total. Just post in the Sale's Counter on your bithday to receive your gold. You cannot request your gift before the actual date of your birthday, and you only have one week after your birthday to claim the gold before the offer is invalid.

Arda has several Dungeon Masters that will randomly post in a topic and tell you something. The DM is NOT a character, the DM is only a narrator of the story and does not actually appear in the RP posts they make. They can tell you what you detect with your 5 senses, and tell you about your surroundings and things happening around you. You will have to go along with anything that the DM says or tells you is happening, but you are allowed to act of your own free will still. This is intended to make role-play more interesting. You are allowed to invite them to any topic you have if you'd like them to spice things up.

We have a chat box for everyone to talk together while browsing the board. When logged in, you can find the link to the CBox at the top left of the board under the banner, next to the link to the portal.

Enjoy our easy to use word count tool! One click on the "Count Words" link below the post area lets you know how many words you've written so far. You can also find a character counter and BBCode help there. Note: The word counter counts each BBCode tag piece as a word. For example, [b][color=red] is counted as 3 words, because "b", "color", and "red" are all separated by characters that aren't alpha-numeric / underscores & dashes.

Quickly travel the board with our Quick Navigation box, found at the left of your window.

Earn gold for your characters! Every in character post you make in Arda earns you 5 gold. With the gold you earn you can purchase a wide variety of items from our unique shops.

Easily scroll back up to the top of the board with our convenient "Back to Top" links found at the bottom right of categories on the home page.

If you wish to kill off or retire your character, Arda has a "retired" group where we can put them to let everyone know they are no longer active. To place them in this group, you can post in the Member Requests forum.

The 60k Challenge! On InvisionFree, every post can contain a maximum of 60,000 characters, which is very roughly 12,000 words. Our challenge to every writer in Arda is to make an RP post that reaches the 60k character limit. This is no small task! On top of that, the post must be high-quality and pleasant to read. We don't want content that is just there to take up space and that drags out the read so that we're learning about the origin of a pebble on the ground that has little to do with any kind of plot. If it's not spell checked and full of bad grammar or other things, it will be disqualified. Using more BBCode than normal in an attempt to take up space or anything else shady will also disqualify you for cheating. There may be more restrictions added to this list as the challenge gets more attention and we learn more about what is and isn't fair. As a reward for making the challenge, if the admins read the post and it meets our standards for approval, you will receive a nice 400 gold. This value may increase or decrease after we get used to this challenge, depending on how easy or difficult it is to make the challenge. Even if the post doesn't qualify for the full 400, you are guaranteed at least 100 gold just for making the post. Values in between 100 and 400 are possible for those that don't fully meet the standards but did well in certain areas. Remember, this challenge is a test of your writing skills, not something that should be done quickly just to get gold. A good 60k post should take quite some time to plan, write, re-read and edit before you post it.
To tell us about your 60k post, please post a topic in the Writing Reviews forum titled "For Admin Review: 60k Challenge" and be sure to include a link to your 60k post. That way we will know of your post and we can start to take a good hard look at it to see if it meets the standards. It should be a high-quality post, and if it's not pleasant to read then it will earn less gold, maybe none at all.
[/doHTML]

I hope that you enjoy these little extras, I've worked hard to organize them for you all. ^_^
