Title: Interviews!

Garath Parradon - June 7, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
I'm honestly not sure how I got this idea, but I saw SOMETHING on here which triggered it...

In any case, here's the idea. Have weekly/monthly interviews of players! (Starting with you, Lothy! :p ) Choose someone to interview aplayer of their choice every month. Ask them questions like "How long have you been roleplaying? What brought you to Arda?" That kind of stuff. It would be awesome to hear more about the major players of Arda (Raku, Liara, Phedre, Loth, Dengar, etc).

I know it would just be one more thing to keep track of, but I thought the idea was kinda quirky and cool.

Hashing out a bit more:
I think the interviewing should be done by someone OTHER than Loth, as she probably has enough on her plate...she could just review the interview and post it once its been completed.
Interview will composed of two parts:
Part A: About the Player.
Part B: About the Character(s).

Questions should be designed to be both informative (giving interesting information about the player/character) and humerous, making the RP community all the more close-knit.
Examples:
"So, Loth. This is a question all the ladies are DYING to know... IS Tulkas single and just HOW big is his....sword?"
"Ita. I recieved an email from one of our readers the other day. 'Suzy' from 'RP-land' writes, "Hi Ita. I'm currently a sophmore in Deity-School. I can already punt a mortal up to 23 yards, but my math is HORRIBLE! I heard you struggled with Math as a young deity, how do I get over this hump?""
"I think one question all of our readers want to know Loth, is just why you decided to start Arda and where did you draw your inspiration from?"
"Well Miss Ploay, you and Dizahab have been playing lovey-dovey for quite some time now! Any ideas if and when you two will be tieing the perverbial knot? *winkwinknudgenudge*"

If you REALLY wanted to be bold (and the person writing it had the incentive/time) you could turn this into an entire newspaper, like "The Arda Gazette!"

Dengar - June 7, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
WHOAOAOAOAO!!!! That is an AWESOME idea!! Each week, someone randomly gets interviewed by <insert name here> and then it is posted in the announcements/general discussion or even feature in the 'Arda newsletter' if it get's made!

I loooovee that idea Garath, you really do have some streaks of genius everynow and then :D

Samarin - June 7, 2006 04:35 PM (GMT)
wow im up for that!!! i want to get interveiwed!!! hahaha wow admitedly you do have some bright ideas

Phedre - June 7, 2006 06:36 PM (GMT)
*actually LOVES this idea!*

And the week before the interview, you could have an OOC topic where everyone could post questions!!

Dakota - June 7, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)

...Gee I wonder who could interview them :r

I have a news site that would be perfect for the job, if you were all willing^_^
I've already interviewed Ita and Masque and Bandit on my site!!

Check it!

Red Mage News!!

It's a good idea  Of course, if we start this I won't be the one conducting interviews etc., the responsibility will be delegated to a small group of members that report to me for approval and stuff.

Toss me an idea for organization and we can begin discussing how to run it.

Sloth - June 8, 2006 09:15 PM (GMT)
I would be interested in helping with this project. ((This is Silnimare.)) Maybe we could call it:

"Voices of Arda"

We could have a topic pinned, and update it when there is a new interview published, we would post it up.

Lothlómendil - June 8, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
One topic would become too crowded. If this interview of the week stuff is going on I will probably be making a forum for it in the ooc section, with a new topic for each interview. That way people can comment and stuff, all kinds of things.

I want suggestions on how the member organization will work. How the interviewers will get the job done and report to me. I have my own ideas, but I want to hear from you first.

I hope you restrict the ability to create topics just to the interviewing crew.

Anyway, I love this idea, as I've said to Garath via the Cbox! Apparently me or Phedre is going to be interviewed first. Or a joint interview with Threnody and Ita. o.o I can't wait to see this happen.

Although a whole forum just for interviews seems kinda major...they're just interviews. O_o Unless we added other stuff as well, like articles or that kind of thing.

Okay, perhaps they could go in the general discussion forum, and the latest interview gets pinned. When a new one comes out the next week, the old topic is unpinned.

Ita the Reckless - June 8, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
Wow. Great idea, Loth!

Now...who will be the "crew"...

Lothlómendil - June 8, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
Obviously Garath will be one of the "journalists" Others interested should say so here =]

Garath Parradon - June 9, 2006 03:17 AM (GMT)
Yes yes, i'll be one of the journalists :)

If I have help (and someone who's good at photoshop/artstuff) we can make this into an actual newspaper/newsletter!

The interviews will only be a part of it. Funny clips...recent news...updates on the war....even advertisements for people wanting to auction stuff!

more logistics:

ok.
I say we could probably run this like a small newspaper/journal crew. Chief editor and what not.

For the interviews, we decide who's doing the interview and who's being interviewed that week. We form a list of suggestions, then go to it! ...It would be awesome if we could do this in a chat of some sort, as the whole interview..thing would probably go better.

Once the interview is done and recorded, we submit to Loth.

Lothlómendil - June 9, 2006 03:24 AM (GMT)
Making the interview into an image isn't a good idea, something that big will be a huge file that will take a long time to load for dial-up users.

Garath Parradon - June 9, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
Good point.

I still like the idea of doing this as a newsletter somehow, if we could manage it. "Quotes of the Week" "Weekly War-Updates" "Recent Arda News" "Interviews!" "Shop Advertisements (deity's could advertise for a small fee :D )" that kinda stuff

Lothlómendil - June 9, 2006 03:27 AM (GMT)
Newsletters won't be happening until InvisionFree is upgraded and the mass e-mail users feature works agian. And even then, only admins can use the feature.

Garath Parradon - June 9, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
kk.

Ya, you wouldn't need to dedicate an entire forum to the newsletter...but it might make things simpler and more organized. I like the idea of refreshing it as an annoucement kinda thing though. Post the interview...let people laugh and make comments....then archive it.

Dengar - June 9, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind joining ^_^. I don't mind getting interviewed either.

Garath Parradon - June 9, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
You could do Both denny ;)

Obsidian Nocturne - June 9, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
I knew of a code once in PHP that allows you to implement a parchment background whilst enabling you to type up anything over it... it kinda worked like this
CODE
[oldscroll] insert text here [/oldscroll]
perhaps it could be installed here? no idea how to do that on invisionfree though

Can't use PHP on an InvisionFree board. HTML and javascript only, we don't have access to the server.

Obsidian Nocturne - June 9, 2006 04:57 PM (GMT)
I'll try to find ya a code. ^_^

Lothlómendil - June 9, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
It's really not necessary  The point is, large images take forever to load and aren't a good idea. Even if it's just a background image. I could easily make a javascript that makes the background of a post an image

Obsidian Nocturne - June 9, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
oh that's fine lol--- as for the oldscroll hack I once installed, it was merely comprised of six measly parts I believe that hardly proved to be a burden to loading time as they were about a kb each lol-- but anyway.. I'm sure we could make the project work without it :)

Lothlómendil - June 12, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
I want to hear a solid plan for organization, so that I can say "yea or nay" or whatever. We need a committe, and some organizational ideas for how you want to do the interviews and submit them to me for review. Stuff.

Garath Parradon - June 12, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
Alright.

I say it should be a team of 3-5 people who will get the title/tag of 'Arda Staff Writer'(s). They will be in charge of writing the interview/newsletter. You can have one person be in charge, or they all can be..doesn't matter. They can choose among themselves if they want to have one person doing the interview, or if the possition can rotate. Each week or two weeks, they choose a new person to interview. (I'd say every two weeks. maybe even once a month). Each week/two-weeks/month they come out iwth a new issue, including humerous quotes...announcements...war news...and the interview.

Hows that?

Lothlómendil - June 13, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
Okay, here's what I'm thinking.

4 or 5 people with equal responsibility, but one of them is designated as the main organizer and the liason to me. :D That will be Garath, since this is his idea. You will have "Arda Journalist" put in your member title. I will change the Public OOC forum so that it can be posted in, instead of just having the general ooc sub-forums and stuff. This can be where you'll put the interviews and stuff. Something like that :poke: I may put the general ooc topics all in the forum instead, and remake the old general ooc forum into the new journalism central. That forum situation needs re-organization anyhow, I was already thinking of moving the general discussion. There will be a private forum for the journalists that only admins, mods, and journalists can see, for everyone to work on their stuff before making it public, and for communication with me etc.

Content should include interviews, and interesting stuff that isn't already an announcement. For example, if I announce new shops or something in the announcements forum, don't post about the same thing in the Journalist news. I'd say try and have an article / interview at least once every two weeks, though once a week is more desirable.

Is this a good refining of your suggestion?

Garath Parradon - June 13, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
That works for me. :)

So far we have:

1. Garath
2. Dengar

need 3 more people ;)

Lothlómendil - June 13, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Okay, I'll close this topic and start setting up stuff.
