Title: Horváth's Ambitions

Horváth - June 9, 2008 06:33 PM (GMT)
Hi folks.

So, here's the idea running around inside my head:

In the not-too-distant future, Horváth is going to attempt to get elected as the most senior magistrate in the city-state of Lomedor, but before he can put his plan into motion he requires two things:

- the current person in that position must be removed.
- all evidence of Horváth's past is eradicated.

Now, the plan is that Horváth will succeed in both of these, but in the process of one (or both) he/his responsibility is discovered by one or more 'good' characters, who then go on to try and foil his attempts to win the election. During their attempt, Horváth will probably become aware of them (if he isn't already) and then can enlist the services of one or two 'bad' characters to confront them, and protect his bid for power.

This will probably span out into a multi-topic storyline, and the great thing is that they don't have to occur one after the other; several can occur simultaneously, each with (mostly) different characters involved. Each idea is open for feedback and suggestions for improvement :)

The topics that I (roughly) see taking place are:

- A thread where Horváth personally goes to the library in Lomedor to destroy any texts that relate to his history.
- A thread where an assassin hired by Horváth attempts to kill the incumbent official he wants to replace.

Then, after those two are concluded:

- A thread where Horváth announces his plan to run for election, and the 'good' characters attempt to stop him and/or convince the public/authorities of his responsibility for the murder of the previous official.

Other threads would probably follow, depending on how the above one concludes.

So, any interest? Feedback and further ideas are always welcome.

Bane - June 9, 2008 11:39 PM (GMT)
Okay, hear me out. I looked over this a couple of hours ago, but passed it over as something that neither of my characters would be interested in. Then, just now, I was examining some of the information I have for Bane, and immediately, a huge idea just slammed right into my mind.

Bane has been searching for his parents after getting out of the underworld, and so far he has had no luck. I was planning for him to eventually find his mother, and for his father to already be dead. But...seeing this made me think. You see, Bane's father was important in politics. So, it's reasonable to say that he went up on the chain, became important during Bane's long confinement in the underworld. See where I'm going with this?

It would be an excellent way for me to further Bane's plot. Upon hearing of the man's death, Bane could realize that the fellow is his father! After doing some investigating, he could discover the cause of death--and go after the killer. He would definitely have a grudge against Horvath if he found out that he was the one that hired the assassin. Especially if he knew he was a vampire.

How exactly all this would be arranged, I'm not too clear on. I was hoping that we could discuss it. ^_^ Of course, if this doesn't sound like a good idea to you, I'll understand.

Bleedheart - June 10, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Would it be okay for Satoten Bleedheart to join? The underworld (even if you have no real ties to them) would be interested in such a goal and wish to further this power of evil. In considering a good way to help they send the Hell Guard, Satoten Bleedheart, to assist with this nefarious plan. In the midst of this Bleedheart could find Bane once more and after an exchange of words begin fighting.

swordhunter - June 10, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
If you need another good character, I wouldn't mind joining.

Ninelives - June 10, 2008 04:34 AM (GMT)
If I could suggest something else as well to spice things up...? At a certain point, our vampire warlord might notice that some of his erstwhile friends might be tempted to blab and so hires people to get rid of them...

Granted, of course, your character has friends that know about his secret identity. Just role-playing the mental anguish of having to make such a decision might be fun in of itself.

D'Zan Daar - June 10, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
Is there room for D'Zan, I can be a bad guy or a good guy.

swordhunter - June 10, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
so when were you thinking of starting?

Horváth - June 10, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Whey, great to see some interest in this!

Bane: I really like your idea; it's perfect because it gives your character a real sense of motivation in stopping Horváth.

Bleedheart: By the sounds of it, Bleedheart and Bane have some history confronting one another? And to bring them in opposite sides of this plot would be brilliant, I think. As for forming ties with the underworld; Horváth himself has no ties to the underworld, but wouldn't be opposed to cutting some kind of deal with its denizens.

Swordhunter: I certainly have no problem including another good character; maybe you and Bane can organise whether your characters work through the plot as a team, or start off separately (perhaps one starts looking into the library incident, whilst the other deals with the assassination attempt on the incumbent official).

Ninelives: Definitely something to consider, but probably not straight away. If Horváth succeeds and gains the rank, then perhaps we could introduce something like that, but for now the only assassins he needs are ones willing to kill the official currently in the position he is after.

Ninelives - June 10, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Oh, I know, I'm just pointing out possibilities. I'm definitely interested in getting involved but as of yet, nothing presented would appeal to my characters. :>_<: Lemme know if anything else happens!

Bane - June 10, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
Alright, excellent! Just for future reference, if you have need to mention a name, Bane's father is named Zacharias. As for working together with Sworhunter's character, I think that Bane wouldn't have a problem with that, though he would need to learn of his father's existence, and the assumed plot against him, first. I think that he would prefer to handle the assassination attempt, in any case. And yeah, me and Bleedheart currently have a topic in which Bane will eventually be defeated. So him popping up, possibly to prevent him from interfering with Horvath's plan, could be interesting.

*Is getting excited about this plot* :w00t:

Anika - June 11, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Anika could maybe play your assassin character. Her current status is being possessed by the spirit of a ancient dark high priest. He is using anika as a vessel to regain his status in the material world. Anika would no longer have qualms in killing, as long as she can do it in the name of Xoco. She is armed with a good set of skills and spells to infiltrate and kill the official. Her motivation for killing the man however would be that she has a strong tie with an important political figure (thats you!) and one that would turn his back on a few ritualistic killings that came his way.

Aksinya - June 11, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
I can let you borrow Aksinya or Vivianne.

Aksinya is a Shadovar Concordance member, and an infiltrations expert, meaning she does just about everything stealthy, and specializes in light weapons-knives, throwing weapons... She's naive, and not very confident with herself, which will start changing, but she's also very cruel.

Vivianne is the adopted daughter of a Lomedor aristocrat, the retired admiral John Marin. She herself is an over-confident, over-bearing and mostly self-obsessed young naiad who has a sharp blade and a sharper tongue. She'd obviously not be so interested in letting Horvath take up any offices in her home city.

Shinji - June 11, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
Hey there Horvath, got room for a law biding demon... I surely wouldn't mind playing the part of some kind of a official, possibly a witness of something you have done.

Horváth - June 11, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
*jumps with delight at all the interest in this*

Ninelives: Shall do :)

Anika: Sounds good to me; Horváth would definitely agree to turning a blind eye to such things. 'Tis a small price to pay for the power he's after.

Akinsya: To be honest, both characters sound well-suited to joining the plot, but perhaps Vivianne would be the best? I say that because, as you said, she's the daughter of an aristocrat like Horváth, and has a more personal motivation for stopping Horváth's plan. And when things get personal, they always get interesting :D

Shinji: Hmm, well if Akinsya wants to play as Vivianne in this plot, then we will have three 'good' characters already, so that side may get a little crowded. But I'm not going to hold that against you, so if you and the other 'good' players think you can work it out, then it sounds good to me! Alternatively, as Horváth and Shinji have met before, he could always work for Horváth.

Speaking of which, I may make a 'prologue-like' topic as well as the two involving the library and the assassination attempt, where Horváth recruits Bleedheart, Anika and any other 'bad' characters. Or, if you guys prefer, we can take their recruitment as a 'given' and jump straight into the first two topics.

Up to you :)

Anika - June 11, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
I don't care which we do. I think a prologue would be fun to kinda get to know the other baddies if only for a wee bit and flesh out the whole bargaining thing. It could be fun

Vivianne - June 12, 2008 12:31 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd be happy playing Vivianne in this, she needs a better footing on the Lomedor stage.

And even though she is quite powerful, she'll also follow the rules of a fair election, so if Horvath is winning, she'll accept his victory. Anyways, she is a strong candidate to put herself forwards for the election, being another noble.

Kessek - June 12, 2008 09:26 AM (GMT)
Kessek is an assassin who hires his services to the upper class, so Horvath might already know about him. He is known to be dependable, and is often hired as an assassin of assassins (as in, the hired killer of an assassin who betrayed their contract). Horvath could hire him as a sort of advisor and "invisible bodyguard." He probably wouldn't show up too often either, especially not when a lot of other people are around.

I'm not sure how well I explained that (I'm exhausted at the moment ^^;; ) but I think you get the idea anyway.

Shinji - June 12, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
I also like the idea of working with Horvath, even though the that topic was the reason for my retirement... any-who, that left a bad mark on me but that has been taken care of. I will work for Horvath then...

Bleedheart - June 12, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
I'm no psychic but I can see fightingr, lying, and also lots of death  Hopefully this will be the best storyline ever!

Horváth - June 15, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
Kessek: Sounds good to me, perhaps he could accompany Horváth to the Library, in the 'invisible bodyguard' role you mentioned. That way, when Horváth's destroying of certain texts there is discovered, Kessek can help him try and get out of it without being identified (even though the plan is that he will be :p)

Vivianne: Will you want your character to come in during the Library topic (i.e, be the one who discovers Horváth's destruction of records about his past) or wait until the topic where Horváth goes about announcing/conducting his election campaign?

Shinji: On second thought, Shinji, you might be able to join the good-guy side after all, if you want. I just realised that, with the possible exception of Vivianne, we haven't actually got someone to disrupt Horváth's meddling at the Library :grr:

Okay, folks, here's how I think this is going to go; correct me if I'm wrong!

The Library
Horváth goes to the library to destroy records about his past.
Horváth
Kessek (possibly)
Vivianne (possibly)
Shinji (possibly)

Assassination of the Incumbent
Anika and Bleedheart are sent by Horváth to assassinate Zacharias.
Bane
Bleedheart
Anika
Swordhunter (possibly)

I think that accounts for everyone. Even if you don't think there is a place for your character in the first two topics (I'm thinking possibly of Vivianne here), don't worry, as latter topics in the storyline will fit perfectly.

Bane/Bleedheart/Anika/Swordhunter: If you prefer, I can start your topic (probably from the P.O.V of Bane's father) and then you guys can take it from there.

I should have the Library topic up and ready to go by the end of today!

swordhunter - June 15, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
That's fine with me. Can't wait to start!

Vivianne - June 15, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
It'd make more sense for her to be in the library to know why she should fight Horvath in the election over simply not trusting him, in my opinion.

Bane - June 15, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
Sounds good. I think that most of the action concerning Bane will occur after the assassination, though. :shifty:

Anika - June 15, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
I would prefer if you wrote up the first post for the assassination. And also am I the one doing the killing of mr. Political figure, or am I working with somebody else?

Shinji - June 16, 2008 02:21 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind working for good or for evil... I can introduce my alt Will as a body-guard for the assassination mission if that sounds good.
