“Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
you have come to journey's end

Sleep now
Dream -- of the ones who came before
they are calling
from across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
all of your fears will pass away

Safe in my arms
you’re only sleeping

What can you see
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
a pale moon rises
the ships have come
to carry you home

Dawn will turn to silver glass
a light on the water
all souls pass

Hope fades
into the world of night
through shadows falling
Out of memory and time

Don't say
we have come now to the end
White shores are calling
you and I will meet again”

The silky voice rang clear through the still night air singing a solemn song of lover her mother once sang to her. The owner of the voice was a young Elvin woman who was perched on the edge of the small well in the center of town. Wavy brown hair reached down to her waist and golden brown eyes looking out from an elegant face with a delicate nose and full lips. Only a small crowd had stopped to hear her song and it brought most of the women to tears of mixed emotions. Small children clinged to their parent’s hands as they gaze in awe at the singer. Somehow the song even seemed to affect the few men who had stopped to listen, though they did not show it as the women or children.

At the end of the song the few onlookers clapped slightly and complimented her on her voice then went dispersed quietly to their housing or night business. Rae smiled softly and simply stayed where she was, her back against one of the poles and her head tilted up towards the sky. The night was as close as perfect as one could get. The air was warm with a slight summer breeze, the moon bathed the town in an angelic silver glow and numerous stars dotted the sky. It doesn’t get much better then this, Rae thought silently to herself as she admired the heavens.

Dar'Vaeg - April 23, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Arthur had stopped in Estold for a few days for some well deserved rest. Lately things had gotten tough as they always did this time of year. He realized as it got closer for the time he would enjoy himself things got tougher. HE supposed it was the way the world worked. Estold was at it always was quiet but thriving a perfect place for the likes of a traveler like him. He noticed a crowd looking at something and them swaying.

Curiosity awakened Arthur walked toward the crowd and was sweeped away by a song. It was beautiful enchanting like those of the elves but it was different. It almost made him sleep. It reminded him of the time his own mother sang songs to him when he could not sleep. Indeed it almost seemed like it. The person behind the voice though matched her song. Beautiful and definitely elvish. He swayed to the song and hummed along with it even though he did not know the words.

Finally when it finished Arthur was brought back to reality in a sudden abruptness. The crowd clapped and left but he stayed and watched the girl. This girl had talent comparable to the best he had ever seen. Arthur knew a good performer when he saw one. This one was beautiful along with a good singer a good combination. He approached the last to clap his armor gleaming in the light and he said," Quite beautiful elf maiden, I have not heard such since I was in elf land in the fall ".

Rae had been distracted by the beauty of the night sky and had failed to notice or hear the remaining man until he stepped nearer to her and spoke. Golden eyes fell from the heavens to study the face of the man in front of her. The compliment he gave her was beyond her talent. To be compared to the Elvin singers was the highest compliment one could ask for. A soft blush crept across her cheeks as she lowered her head briefly in respect. She knew she was a decent singer, but the Elvin singers were legendary, they had endless years to perfect the art of singing and their naturally musical voices could bring tears to even the most hardened solider. For Rae it was something she simply did for her own enjoyment, in her eyes she was not comparable to the trained Elvin singers this man had heard.

“Such a high compliment for such a simple song. You’re much too kind sir.”

Golden eyes rose to meet the man’s piercing blue ones, a soft smile pulled at the corner of her lips as she studied the man in front of her. He was tall and muscular, built for battle like his armor was. The silver moon illuminated his armor causing it to appear to glow. Rae had been in the village for sometime now, simply enjoying the uncomplicated and kind people. She had not met many of the travelers that passed through since she normally was interacting with the townsfolk instead, but was planning to leave in the near future. She rarely stayed in one place for too long. Her energetic and friendly personality caused her to get bored easily with the places and people that she met. Since he mentioned being in the Elvin lands in the fall Rae assumed he was a traveler and was immediately drawn to his unknown personality.

"The Elvin singers are much more talented then I. But nonetheless I am glad you enjoyed it."

Arthur smiled when she finally noticed him and spoke. He studied her as she did the same of him. He had seen many things in his life, he spent most of his time looking for oddities because he himself was one. This was not an oddity but somethign enitrely different. HE then brought himself out of it and reminded himself that passion rules reason and now was not the tiem to lose ones head.

He smiled and said," My mother told you can never be to kind, and I know a good singer when I see one, anybody that has a song that can remidn me of my younger days is as good as they come". Arthur chukled a little at himself and too kanother glance at her just for measure. HE felt that one could not go on looks alone but often they helped in making out a persons character. THe night added to what he saw so he knew he had been right. Elvish blood was in her veins or his name wasn't Arthur.

She spoke again of the elves and shook his head smiling and said," Dear Lady it does not matter how practiced the singer, if the blood and talent runs true enough they can beat the most practiced". Arthur then bowed and said," But I am being rude, I am Arthur, and I like you sometimes perform myself". Arthur smiled again and bowed to her again. He then said," Though you would probably get more welcome at an inn, as most inns are in desperate needs of performers".

Raehonia - April 23, 2008 04:21 AM (GMT)
”I’m glad my song could remind you of happy times. That is all of my songs purposes; to take the listener to someplace they dream of or someplace they remember from long ago. That song was one my uncle sang to me when I young and had trouble sleeping. I find it only right to share it with others as he shared it with me.”

Golden eyes took in the rugged handsomeness of the man that introduced himself as Arthur. Arthur was seen as a strong name in the Elvin community, its true meaning being ‘bear’ or ‘stone’. Both of which Rae could see easily describe him. He was large and scruffy like a bear and appeared strong like a rock. A man that carried the name Arthur seemed to demand respect unless they had proven themselves to be unworthy of the regal name. Rae smiled and gracefully pushed herself off the wells edge to stand in front of Arthur. Pinching one side of her dress Rae dipped elegantly into a deep curtsy.

”A pleasure Arthur. Please, call me Rae. Yes, the inns would provide me with better money and accommodations, however, I do not sing for the money. I sing for the pure joy of singing. I do not need the money the inn would give me. You see, I’m working as a stable hand at the local stable for the time being. At least until I move on from this town.”

Gregory - April 23, 2008 05:54 AM (GMT)
Gregory found himself in the small village of Estolad and happened to wander into an herb shop to see what they had. He looked at each herb and saw how they were marked, the first the he noticed was some celery marked as Leek. It looked similar, but was far from the actual thing. He shook his head and looked away. He looked around some more and found some oak leaves with white flowers marked as Sweet Cicely. He looked around, all that was in there was the shopkeeper who hadn't even paid attention to this young man in his store.

"You're labels mislead the common humanoid, do you mismark them on purpose, or do you really believe that the Celery is actually Leek?"

The shopkeeper looked up with a confusing look, he apparently hadn't been listening.

"I'm sorry, what was that again?"

"I've already noticed that several of your items are mislabled, the thungs you have marked as Leek is no more than common celeray, leek would cure minor wounds, celeray would go well in a salad. And the leaves and flowers you have marked as Sweer cicely is generally used for stomach ailments and sleeplessness, what you have in it's place would only cause a stomach ailment."

The shopkeeper sighed and liad back a bit against a wall as he shook his head. His eyes shot up to meet those of the young man.

"Look, people don't really know the differance, they just want to believe that what they see will really help them, and although we do get deliveries we don't get anything that really works... at least, not a lot of things that really work."

"Fine than, what is real here?"

"The Dill, and the Ivy. We generally don't have use for anythimg stronger than that, even with the bar fights. Tell me, are you an alchemist?"

"Yes, and you are mainly a liar, alchemists who come here must not frequent this store."

gregory walked out of the small shop and down the dirt streets of the small village, he was hoping that there might be something to help create more potions. He let out a sigh and his 'friend' showed up and quickly dashed down a few streets, it didn't take long before Gregory was chasing the illusion.

Eventually he found himself in a crowd and listening to a beautiful song from the lips of an elfin woman. The song mesmerized him as it did others. The song seemed to have emotional effects on many, even Gregory's mind had stopped it's constant thinking and equations to listen to this song. Somehow he fealt as if he heard it before.

It wasn't long before the song ended and his mind snapped back into place, he stood a bit as he replayed the song in his head, trying desperatley to remember where it came from, every lyric passed through his mind, but no answers came from his 'disection' of the song. Gregory eventually found himself wandering with the crowd and shook his head before turning to return to where the elfin woman had been. Now there was a humanoid talking to her.

The young man listened to the two talk, one admitted his name to being Arthur. The elfin woman said for the man to call her Rae, Gregory's constant studying taught him that the nickname she gave to herself meant 'water' in the draconic tongue. Gregory paid close attention, he attempted to lean against a wooden wall, but instead ended iup falling to the ground with a thud and a grunt. where as he had hoped to listen to the conversation in silence he ended up possibly drawing attention to himself.

(Dude Arthurs not in dragon form how were you able to tell Arthurs a half-dragon)

Arthur smiled at her as he listened and he shook his head with a chuckle. HE then said," My mother did the same, ofcourse it was her that brought me to love music, she suggested that if I ever got tired of my endless questing to take up performing". He shurgged he did perform but only in the summer, it was his way to keep his mind off other things.

When she stepped closer Arthur then realized that she was more than pretty and he smiled and his eyes gleamed at her. Of course that was quite normal for Arthur it was a dragon thing. Their eyes gleamed when they saw real beauty. Arthru beign half-dragon carried the same trait but he woudn't say that out loud.

He listned to her as she spoke her name matched her looks and he smiled at her and nodded in understanding. He said," I can understand that, and I respect it, there are very few out there who do such as that". He shurgged and then said," You wanderer as well then, me I am only here for a short while as well, I never stay in any one place to long".

(Sorry for the shortness real busy)

Raehonia - April 23, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
It was curious how Arthur’s eyes seemed to glow slightly when she stepped forward to introduce herself. They reminded her slightly of a dragon, but other then that she thought no more of it. It seemed Arthur and her were quite alike, they both performed, him probably more so then her, and they both traveled, not liking to stay in one place for too long. She silently wandered if he like her got bored easily and that was the reason he traveled, but what a silly question to ask. Everybody was different and did similar things for very different reasons. Perhaps he was running from something or someone, she thought to herself then almost laughed at loud at the sight of a large man such as himself running from something or someone. What a ridiculous thought.

“Please do tell, what is your preferred performing art?”

Her question trailed off slightly as her sensitive Elvin ears picked up the sound of a soft thud as if someone had fallen. Golden eyes slid of Arthur’s handsome face to glance over his shoulder at the young man that now sat on the ground with an almost shocked look on his face. Rae couldn’t help but slightly laugh at the look on his face; the small laugh was soft and had a slight resemblance to twinkling bells. A slender hand quickly covered her mouth in embarrassment. How rude of her to laugh at some young man who had fallen down. Who knew how that might hurt his feelings or pride?

”I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”

Rae apologized for her behavior behind her hand a small blush covering her checks; though a smile still tugged at the corners of her mouth.

Dar'Vaeg - April 23, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Arthur smiled at her and said," I have no one favorite really, I perform them all, from tricks of illusion, to music and dance, and many more". Arthur heard a thump behind him Arthur put his hand to the pommel of his balde and turned round in a blink of an eye. Arthur seeing a young man on the ground took his hand off his blade seeing no threat but silently berating himself for not being alert.

Of course Arthur then realized the boy was to far away for him to totally sense so he let it go. Rae laighed slightly at the boy and Arthur smiled almost laughing himslef. Then she apologized and Arthur shook his head. HE then said to the boy," At least you aren't hurt, those building can move awful guick". HE smoothed his face and tried to keep from laughing. He then said," What were you doing there anyway, hopefully not listening to our conversation".

Gregory - April 29, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
To Gregory, sarcastic comments were a sign of uneasiness, a coping mechanism devised to try and conceal ones thoughts. But there was always the chance that Gregory could be wrong. He picked himself up from the dirty ground, inspecting his potions before brushing himself off. Luckily none of the vials had spilled out from their puch, they were just jostled a bit inside of the bag due to the fall. The young alchemist thought carefully about a response to their comments, so as to not look like a fool if he decided to ask about the song quickly.

"I am allright, this is not the first time something like this has happened."

He said as he finished brushing some more dirt from his body.

"And I do apologize for interrupting your conversation, I did not mean to be rude, I simply miscalculated the distance of the building."

Gregory thought a bit longer until he finally asked what he needed to.

"I would like to ask you a question, have you ever been to a small village located amongst the Ered annon? I distinctly remember the song from my younger years."

Gregory straightened himself up as he asked this, and hopefully he did not seem rude to the two standing before him.

(Sorry for the short post)

Raehonia - April 29, 2008 02:56 PM (GMT)
Another soft laugh trickled out of Rae’s throat at Arthur comment, a slender hand covered her mouth as she tried to hold back any more laughter at the boy’s expense. His thin frame showed he was clearly not a fighter and no strong magic radiated off him. Sparkling eyes examined the boy carefully; it seemed tonight her song was more popular then normal. First Arthur had compared it to the Elvin songs he had heard while visiting them and now this boy said he remembered it from somewhere in his childhood.

Ered Annon was the mountain range West of Lómëdor and if Rae remembered correctly there was a small village not much bigger then Estolad hidden among the rocky peaks. It had been long ago; maybe 11 or 12 years past that Rae had stumbled upon the small village. She had stayed in the small inn and had preformed for the village free of charge. This song that seemed to be so popular tonight was her favorite and anyone who had heard her perform had more then likely heard that very song at least once.

“It was long ago, but I had stumbled upon a small village among the Ered Annon around 11 years ago. If you lived there at the time I am sure that is where you remember this song from.”
