Providence - April 3, 2008 04:59 AM (GMT)
What did Providence just do...

... he got caught up in the heat of the moment, and cut someone's hands off. It was just off of his own thought. Curse his mind! He didn't mean to, he truly didn't, it was just a spur of the moment mood. The criminal - which wouldn't be a criminal anymore compared to Providence - was getting his wounds treated. A mob of angry people all stared at Providence. Providence dropped his katana. and put his hand over his mouth in shock. He can't believe he defied all that he had done in a random act. He had never done that before. People were tossing insults and throwing food at Providence, and he just stood there, taking it. He still couldn't believe it.

Guards soon showed up. They peeled through the clouds, equipped with longswords, kite shields, and shiny steel armour. They eyed the criminal, Providence, and their mouthes fell open.

"OF ALL THE BLOODY PEOPLE TO DO SUCH A THING, IT WAS YOU?!?!?!?!" a guard yelled. "WHO IN HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! SOME KIND OF MINDLESS MAN WHO THINKS HE IS ABOVE THE LAW JUST BECAUSE HE IS - or may soon be WAS - IN THE GUARD?!" the man was spitting everywhere with his unhealthy tongue. The other guards were glaring. Even one of Providence's friends, Jake, was staring at him coldly, arms crossed.

"I... I-I didn't.... mean..." Providence stuttered, unable to comprehend what he was saying.

"SHUT YOUR FREAKIN' MOUTH AND TELL IT TO THE REAL AUTHORITIES, DIP---" and then the guard broke into swears.

The guards quickly paced up to Providence, and grabbed him by his arms. They kicked in his legs, breaking them, to make sure Providence did not get away. Providence didn't even yell. He was too ashamed of himself.

He just harmed another person for no reason. He deserved to die, not the [former]criminal.

Being dragged through the streets, and Providence could do nothing but yell at himself for his terrible deed. It was very ironic. He was a lawful good man, who prayed to Lothlomendil, and he had just violated every single aspect of every single part of that. Citizens of Lomedor were booing and making terrible remarks about Providence, and he just absorbed it all.

He was thrown into a jail cell, and stripped of his apparel and changed into nothing more than ragged brown, linen shorts.

"And don't even talk, you bas--" Another swear from the guard. He was standing there, eyeing Providence, while Providence just hung his head in deep shame.

A few hours later, he was carried into the review board's office, where one lone man stood behind the cluttered desk. His face was terribly angry and red. He had to interrupt all of his work just for one little misdeed.

Providence got put onto the chair opposite of the boss.

"So. You defied what it meant to be to be an elite guard, hmm?" said the boss, smoking a cigar.

"It was just---" Providence tried to say.

"IT WAS TRAITORISM! YOU CONNIVING LITTLE ARSE!" the boss yelled. The sudden change in tone had actually startled Providence.

"P-please, it was a spur of the moment--" Providence almost said.

"IT WAS NOTHING OF THE SORT! You got confronted by a criminal and you hurt him! You cut off his bloody hands! Literally!" said the boss.

Providence didn't speak.

The boss was beginning to write on a piece of paper. It seemed important.

"Would you be able to hear my case?..." Providence asked humbly.

After a much awaited silence, the man behind the desk stopped writing, and looked into Providence's eyes. "Go for it."

Providence nodded. "See, I didn't know what came over me. It was a wonderful day. Everything was going great. I enjoyed myself, and had great fun with my now former friends. But then the criminal came up to me. He wanted money. And, well, I don't know why, but I... cut off his hands and made a dumb joke. I guess I was just really stupid... but I am done guessing. I did it because I was having fun. I was having a great day, and I just didn't want it to end. I felt that it was to be a fun thing if I did something like cutting off his arms and seeking medical help for fun.." Providence monologued.

"So. Let me get this straight. You are having a blabby-blabby day, and when a criminal comes up to you, you 'have fun', if you put it, and cut off his hands. Just for fun. Just for giggles. "Aw, hey man, I'm just kidding. Don't take it personally. You just don't have arms anymore!" Huh? Is that how it is meant to be? All fun and games just harming people without legit cause? YOU SERVE LOTHLOMENDIL, FOR PETE'S SAKE! Do you know how much irony that is?" the boss responded.

"Please... forgive me.. I really didn't want to..." Providence sputtered.

The boss held up the paper he was writing on.

LOMEDOR GUARD
SPEC-OPS DIVISION
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE
SUBJECT:
Curtis Muan (Providence)
REASON:
Unlawful Behaviour. Class 3
ESTIMATED TIME TO EFFECT:
Immediately.

The boss smirked, and put it in an envelope.

"Unless you can give a MUCH better reason than what you have given, I'm afraid you'll be sentenced to life in jail, with no bail. You shall be stripped of all your possessions, and discharged from the guard units." the boss said. He seemed glad about doing this.

"I never really liked you." He finished.

The man got up, and dusted himself off.

"Last chance." the boss said.

"Okay.. here it is.... I hurt the man because I've had enough of this. Our system is not governed right, in my eyes, If someone steals something, retribution should take place. Now, I do realize that harming someone is the WORST thing you could do, but just putting them in a jail cell for a year won't solve anything. We need to have rehabilitation. I promise you, sir, please just give me one more chance. I will never harm anyone without authorization. I will never be violent. I will be sure to uphold the laws. And I will let the authorities do what they want to me if I fail again..."

"Even--" the boss almost said.

"Yes. Even kill me. Slowly and painfully." Providence said, sighing.

The two stayed silent for what seemed like an eternity.

The boss sighed, rubbing his eyes. He sat back down, and rested his arms on the table.

"If you EVER fail me in this respect again, I will make sure to it MYSELF that you die the worst possible death anyone could ever imagine." he said.

"But, until you do mess up, I will clear your name and put in a good word to the folk of Lomedor. However, you shall be detained for the customary month."

The boss got up, went right in front of Providence's face, and stared at him right in the eye.

"You're VERY lucky." he said.

He called in the guards, and they shipped Providence off to the customary jail.

Life just messed itself up in the head....

.... what had Providence done?
