Title: Chasing Lights

Kogata - March 30, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
Mid afternoon had settled over the woods by the time the desert half elf, Kogata, showed up. Normally she would keep herself hidden in the streets of Lomedor and not risk going outside, however since the spring festival events had taken a rather strange turn for her. If it weren't for the strange girl handing her an unusually brightly colored egg apparently laid by a rabbit of some sort, Kogata wouldn't be in this situation right now. Having recovered from the surprise and confusion about having a fairy suddenly hatch from an egg, the fairy had led Kogata out of Lomedor in search of what somewhere currently unknown to the half elf. At first Kogata had been reluctant, but the rather talkative fairy had eventually talked Kogata into it.
"Mana, wait!" Kogata called out "I'm tired!"
The small lime colored pinprick stopped in mid air and turned about, glaring at the elven girl and her bright yellow fly dragon.
"Come on, we're nearly there," she said "Do you want the big-bad-wolf to eat you?"
To sum it up, that was how Mana had convinced Kogata to tag along: By convincing her there was a wolf chasing after her, and it seemed to have worked. Kogata immediately scrambled to her feet and chased after the fairy.
"Why is a wolf chasing after me?" She asked between heavy panting.
"Oh wolves like little elf girls," Mana replied casually.
"I'm half-elf," Kogata corrected her "And I've got no meat on me."
"Less talking, more walking," the fairy interjected.
"Where are we going anyway?" Kogata asked for the hundredth time.
"You'll see," Mana replied for the hundredth time.
Kogata heaved a sigh and resigned herself to the worst, perhaps receiving that egg had been a bit of a bad idea, seeing as she was now lost in a wood. She stopped to catch her breath and looked about her: This place was unfamiliar to her and she was getting an eerie feeling from the place. She shivered slightly, feeling a thousand invisible eyes scanning her, waiting for her to let her guard down. She looked about again and saw Mana floating in front of her nose. Kogata gave a yell of surprise and stumbled backwards, falling on her backside and moaning loudly.
"You're hopeless," Mana sighed, floating over to the elven girl again "Honestly, you'd be scared of your own shadow, you would."
"It would help if you didn't sneak up on me!" Kogata retorted.
Mana was about to reply when she was cut short by a loud grumbling coming from deep in the woods. Kogata immediately stiffened and backed herself up against a tree.
"W-what was that?" She stuttered.
"Eheh...Err...Probably just the wind," the fairy replied, nervously "Yes, nothing to worry about. Just wind!"
The grumble sounded again.
"Does wind usually sound like that?" Kogata asked.
"Oh yeah, all the time," Mana replied casually, however she had begun to shiver herself.
"Well I'm staying right here where the wind can't hurt me!" Kogata snapped, burying herself in her own limbs.

Mid-afternoon within the Taurai Woods this day found the blue-furred fox-boy asleep against a tree somewhere within the woods, he didn't really know...all he knew was that he'd entered the woods sometime this morning after a night of activity and was already half-asleep by that point, meaning all it took to fall asleep was sitting back against a tree. Of course, were he accompanied by one of his usual companions, even that probably wouldn't be allowed; the bird would probably be noisily warbling come break of morning, waking up everything around it.
Unfortunately, though, he had no idea of his tendency to growl a lot during his sleep not long before he ended up waking up when sleeping out in a forested area, which right now he was doing, and somewhat loudly, a growling, grumbling noise from his more animal heritage that could be heard a short ways away, a likely threatening or frightening sound, probably attributed to some wolf or other wild animal.
Grumbling quietly, he steadily woke up as if on cue, opening his eyes slowly to the still-bright world around him, yawning widely, revealing sharp canine teeth, and picking himself up with his feet and arms from the tree he was sitting comfortably enough against the base of. Sniffing around for a moment to get a feel for what might be around, he caught the normal scent of nature, as could be expected, but also what seemed to be a half-elf and a pixie of some kind, at least from what he could tell, a little ways away through the woods. Figuring he'd check things out and make himself known, he wandered off in that direction, flapping out his yellow vest a bit, which was held open in front, to get some of the dirt and such off of it, which he did the same then for his tail and pants.
Finding the pair in question, the young half-elf clearly afraid of something, he scratched the back of his head a bit, wondering if he was the one the girl was afraid of, which hopefully wasn't the case.
"Hey...you alright? Certainly hope I'm not what you seem to be afraid of," he said, his voice calm and fitting more for a human of his age than one of his appearance, his face giving a small, nervous smile.
Kogata - March 30, 2008 06:02 PM (GMT)
Mana looked down at the quivering lump Kogata was now tucked inside with her hands on her hips.
"Honestly," she sighed.
Mana looked about and to her slight surprise noticed that there was a blue fox standing a stones-throw away from them. More to the point he was wearing pants and a vest. Mana stared at him for a few moments with slight shock on her face before she noticed he was addressing Kogata. The half elf however wasn't looking up.
"She's a little paranoid," Mana explained, turning back to the fox-person-thing.
She floated down and landed on Kogata's head, sitting cross legged between her pigtails.
"Hey, pin-nose get up," she said.
Kogata sat up quickly and made to try and grab the fluttering fairy but missed.
"I told you not to call me pin-nose," she complained "My name's Kogata...KO-GA..."
Her voice trailed off as her large blue eyes fell on the strange fox man standing in front of her and she seemed to freeze in place.
"Oh here we go," Mana sighed.
Barely a second later, the elven girl had darted behind the tree trunk in a very similar fashion to a startled shrew and had resumed her quivering cocoon position out of sight of the bright blue fox boy.
"Like I said, she's paranoid," Mana sighed "I'm Mana, Mana the fairy." Mana gave a curtsy in mid air "And the ball of nerves behind there is Kogata. I'm afraid she's not used to other people so she tends to hide alot."
Mana turned round to see Kogata's rodent-like face poking out from behind the tree, scanning the fox with a cautious but curious stare. Mana zipped round the back of the tree and proceeded to push Kogata out into the open again, almost causing her to trip up again.
"Um...G-good afternoon," she said, nervously.

It became quickly apparent that he was indeed the object of this girl's current fear, though the fairy didn't seem to be bothered by his presence, the two not seeming to completely get along. As soon as the young girl stated her name as a retort to a nickname from the fairy, she seemed to notice the fox's presence once more, freezing for a moment and then making a mad dash behind the nearest tree in fear. This...could certainly be a difficult situation at this rate were he to stay here, the fox realized easily enough, but still, maybe he could help the girl get over this somewhat unreasonable fear of him. Paranoid indeed, it seemed...
"Like I said, she's paranoid. I'm Mana, Mana the fairy," the small fairy introduced herself with a curtsy, Kai fortunately fully successful in hiding his...relative distaste of fairies and pixies, after a few bad experiences with them, one in particular. "And the ball of nerves behind there is Kogata. I'm afraid she's not used to other people so she tends to hide a lot."
The fairy then proceeded to push the girl, who'd been poking her head from just behind the tree, out into the open, who then made a shy, somewhat stuttering greeting.
"So, Kogata and Mana, huh? My name's Kai, pleasure to meet you both," he said, a pleasant smile on his face, making sure to keep his mouth closed during it, his teeth hidden during that and mostly while he was talking, then offering a hand to the two in a polite gesture. "Anyway, what brings you two out here? As for me, I'm just resting after walking for a while, taking a good chance to get away from a bird of mine that tends to be kind of a pain."
