Title: In the Sky
Description: Open
Mayu - March 28, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)
Mayu walked towards the ocean her wings flapping around in the wind. The sound of the waves moved her to sit on a nearby rock.
The ocean’s pretty but I can’t swim, if I ever try to swim, who knows what will happen.
She thought that as she stared into the ocean and then to her wings. She got up and said “Well it’s such a beautiful day, I think I’ll roam around the sky a bit.” And with that, she took off into the sky. She stared in delight of the seagulls flying around her. She moved towards a cloud and circled it for a few minutes. To her flying was like walking. The seagulls looked at her, not at all very surprised, and then continued to fly.

It had been a short morning spent at the coast that the young half-dragon, currently in the form of a somewhat light blue dragon with yellow-tinged wings, that he'd slept after a little hunt, another squirrel in the confines of the nearby forest. As the sun began to rise, however, it had woken him from his short few hours of sleep, and after he'd tried to go back to sleep a few times, he'd simply given up and submitted to this brand new day.
Giving his wings a few small flaps, he crouched down low, sending himself up about a foot into the air through the strength of his legs alone and then giving his wings more powerful flaps, flying up into the air to get a good view of the coast and forest, and maybe the seagulls flying around in the bright morning sky, occasional clouds scattered about.
The first thing he caught was something he was surprised he didn't earlier. Not far down the coast from where he'd taken off, a girl stood there, with bright white feathered wings, and blue hair, a similar blue to his scales. An angel, or maybe half-angel, he couldn't immediately tell. All he knew was that she seemed to have decided to soar up into the air and around the clouds, the gulls around paying her much less mind than they were the young dragon.
Feeling a little brave at the moment, knowing that it wasn't very likely that an angel or half-angel would wish to hurt him, he shifted his body slightly, giving his wings a few more flaps to send him steadily in the direction of where the girl was currently flying, little effort needed for it given that this was the form he was born in and spent most of his time in, and thus was most used to. Giving a small screech 'hello', though she probably wouldn't understand the actual word, to let his presence be known.

Mayu quickly turned around at the unexpected screech. “Oh, Hello” she said as she saw the half-dragon. “I didn’t realize someone else was here.” She finished. The cloud she was circling faded into the sky as the time passed. The seagulls gently flew passed the two, staring and then continued to fly. “I’m Mayumi Tsuyoshi, but you could just call me Mayu.” She said. “What’s your name?” She asked the half-dragon.
I wonder if he could speak… or even understand me… maybe I should ask.
She thought that as began to speak. “Can you understand me?” she asked. She then waited for a reply.

The girl's initial response to him wasn't bad. She didn't seem to be afraid of him at all, more perhaps curious, hopefully not minding having the company of a small young dragon.
As the girl told him her name, the young dragon nodded lightly, taking it into his memory, perhaps in case they ever met again, which was possible in this large land, though it had never happened to him yet. Mayu...an interesting name, much better than his, though all names he'd heard were.
The seagulls and other surroundings were erased from his mind as he was asked his name, and if he could understand her, tilting his head slightly to the side, looking off to empty space, a thoughtful look in his emerald eyes. If only he was older, then he could speak in a normal language in this form instead of just draconic screeches.
A thought occuring to him, though he wasn't sure how well it would work, he went on to perform a few aerial acrobatics, spelling out the first four letters of his name, a shortened version of it that he preferred to use, with his body. 'C' was easy, simply shifting his body up and tail forward, 'O' was just a circular flight, 'D' was down then up and around, and finally 'Y' he faced her, shifting his wings apart and letting his tail hang down, a surprised look in his eyes as the ocean wind blew him slightly off to the side in this stalled state, flapping his wings frantically to get back to a stable position in the air, letting out a breath of relief afterwards. Turning his attention back to Mayu, he made sure to see that she understood what he'd just done, which didn't seem too difficult. Hopefully...

The half-dragon paused for a while before answering to Mayu’s question. To Mayu’s surprise he started to do a few aerial acrobatics. He first did a C, then an O, D, and Y. Mayu’s reply came with every letter. “Wait, G… C, C. The next is O, yes, yes. Now P, B, D, right? The next one is T… wait, Y! So your name’s Cody, right?” She smiled at the sound of his name. “It’s cute.” She finished.
Well at least that proves he can understand me… but… he can’t speak.
She decided to ask him. “Can you speak at all?”

At Mayu's realization of his name, and once he'd gotten himself stable in the air once more, he smiled slightly, at least as far as he could in this form, nodding happily. This was proving to be a fun encounter, that much was certain, even if it was a little difficult for a moment there. At least he'd decided against trying to spell his full first name, a name he didn't even like to begin with.
His response to the next question was a light, slightly crackling screech, a 'yes' in the dragon's tongue, which wasn't a commonly understood language when actually being spoken by one of draconic heritage. And unfortunately for him right now, in this form it was the only language he could manage...unless...
Deciding to give it a try after last doing so three years ago, since having become plenty more familiar with his human form and the related language over the last two years, in which he'd actually used it instead of just shifting into it for reasons he preferred to forget when his father was still around and training him, he worked it through in his head for a moment, looking down to the ground, the ocean, some ways away, then looking back up.
"Y...es..." he managed to get out, a small, serpentine voice that seemed to slightly surprise him at how easy it apparently was now that he was actually used to the language, regardless of the form he was in.
