Title: "Hacking"
Lothlómendil - March 22, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
As many of you have seen, if you try to access the board through our custom domain name therealmofarda.com, you will receive a notice that we've been "hacked" by g00ns.net. Really, Arda and all its data are fine. InvisionFree / Zetaboards, our host, has been hacked and they messed with the domain routing. Please access the board through the
http://z4.invisionfree.com/Arda/ URL while I try and change the custom domain name to make less of a mess.
This does mean you will all have to log back in, but so far that's the only inconvenience.
Be sure to let your Ardian friends know what's up if they don't already know!
[edit]
The changes I've made seem to have propagated now, our domain should be working now! Let's hope our server stays safe until IF gets to the problem, server one hasn't been as fortunate. You'll still have to log back in, though.

The only ones seemed targeted seem to be those with their own domains. *sigh*, some people really need to get a life. *goes to e-mail the people on her msn from Arda who aren't online*

I've changed my custom domain name so that it should route around the problem, but changes take a while to propagate through the internet. The custom domain may be down for a while, but the board itself is fine and accessible through the z4 URL. :)

oh, thank god. Gave me a damn good scare, there.

That was the quickest fix I've ever seen! :w00t:

How'd you do it because my old board has a custom domain name and I'm sure people are panicking.

Lothy out-hax3d the haxx0rs. :w00t:
Anyone wanna cast lots on how long it will take IF to get themselves un-pwned?

First, I accessed my board using the z4 URL. If you know what server your IF board is on, access it that way instead of through your domain name.
Then, I went to my Yahoo domain control panel, unlocked it, and deleted my CNAME records and A-records that pointed the domain to IF's servers. Then I set it up so that the domain forwards to the z4 URL, it just takes a few clicks on the "set up forwarder" thing. Then I re-locked the domain, and waited for that to propagate. Wherever you got your domain from, go to your control panel there and try and do the same.
I also went to my IF ACP -> domain manager and set the primary domain back to the z4 URL instead of my domain.

nicer than what i would have done
Eraspeola - March 23, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
i would have just tracked them down one by one.
XD

I was just about to say to watch out in the cbox about this hacking thing, SWAGD is cancelling registrations until the problem is fixed, might be a good idea fto do that for now. Just a suggestion.
Lothlómendil - March 23, 2008 02:22 AM (GMT)
Stopping registrations isn't going to help, Arda wasn't attacked on a personal level, nor were admin accounts compromised. InvisionFree's servers themselves were accessed remotely. But Brandon (IF's owner) is aware of the problem now and it seems that all boards / domains are back to normal, except for those hosted on server one.
Godfrey - March 23, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
Ah, ok, gotcha. Well nevermind then.
Lothlómendil - March 23, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Okay, it seems that InvisionFree has resolved everything. I've got the domain back up as usual and everything should be peachy now! :)
