Rhyl'drin - February 5, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
((Check here for OOC information regarding this post))

Rhyl'drin took one last look at the notice. Written on scraped goats skin, the parchment would be good for months. Rhyl'drin didn't write in the Surface-Tongue, having only learned to write in the language of the Drow, but it made no difference- for a small fee, a scribe had penned the notice for him, although the fellow had certainly been confused by the content of it. The surface language was hard enough to speak- he was certain that it'd take years to learn how to read quickly, and he wondered if he'd ever learn to write it. Rhyl'drin read the parchment one line at a time, taking it slowly to make sure he understood it.

To: Interested Parties in the Trading Business

For Sale at a Price by Mutual Agreement, fine Dining Ware. Hand made here in Lomedor, but routinely exported to outlying areas at additional fee. Also willing to provide Polishing services of fine Dining Ware and Cutlery. Seek the Dragon Tongue at Double-You, near Fire Water, for more details regarding the sale of fine Dining Ware and polishing services.

Satisfied, Rhyl'drin posted the notice on the most prominent lantern-pole he could find, hoping it would be easily seen in the night and day alike.

To the average passerby, the parchment would read as a confused and grammatically incorrect sales pitch. Further, even if someone was interested in "fine Dining Ware", they'd have no clue how to find the person selling. In fact, Rhyl'drin had nothing to do with selling fine wares. The entire thing had been crafted carefully using slang, lingo and generally accepted terms in Rhyl'drin's field of business: espionage.

It was not the most creative or safe way to advertise his work. You couldn't stand on a street corner and openly advertise your services as a spy, though. So, this would have to do.

"Dining Ware" was the general term used to describe the sale of information. "Hand made here in Lomedor" stated that Rhyl'drin was based here int he city, but the next clause explained that for an extra fee he was willing to go nearly anywhere. "Polish" was one of several euphemisms for hiring an assassin, which Rhyl'drin was willing to do as well, though he found it distasteful and preferred the use of manipulation and quick wit over poison or a quick dagger. The Double-You (or, the "W") simply referred to the Wilwarin Inn here in Lomedor; "near the fire water" would mean near the bar, and asking the tavern keeper for the "Dragon Tongue" was a special arrangement by Rhyl'drin. For now, at least, he was wary of meeting clients for the first time without having someone else make sure they weren't one of several people who would like him dead. So, for a fee, the tavern keeper promised Rhyl'drin to alert him whenever anybody asked for the Dragon Tongue. In order to further cover the story, the bartender had even invented a special concoction called "the Dragon Tongue" to serve, in case anyone found it suspicious that someone asked for a drink and the bartender didn't serve him anything.

Hopefully, this contrived advertisement, with it's various complexities that certainly had the potential to be lost on possible clients, would soon be unnecessary. In the world of intrigue that Rhyl'drin lived in, reputation was everything. If he worked his way up, he could find clients without a problem. For the time being, he'd have to risk the dangers of advertising and hope that he got some business.
