The Parmamar Library wouldn’t have surprised him if it were considered one of the wonders of the world. Its breadth was colossal, painted in the image of supreme majesty. It was a palace of knowledge, a guardian of secrets and histories. It could be the doorway to the answers which he sought yet still he was faced with uncertainty and to a degree, a sense of fear. For a moment in time, he stood motionless before the monumental structure’s great steps in wonder if the truth was truly worth pursuing.
Many lives perished because of my cowardice in searching for answers. I had sacrificed the lives of my children, my wife and all of those that came in between as I lived through the centuries as a host to a being who had brought nothing more than death.
Guilt had struck him to the very core as his mind was plagued by a thousand “what ifs” and possibilities that could have been had he put an end to this menace from the very beginning.
Now is the time…
Melandro convinced himself. It was the time when at last his fate fell unto his own hands and not the other’s.
There he stared upon the two oaken doors, eager and reluctant at the same time as he took in a single breath; the cold air introducing a calm into his being that he had yet to feel since that fateful night when his life was stolen from his grasp. One step after the other brought him closer to the solution of an age old quest as he took to the Parmamar flight of marble stairs with each footfall leaving a humble echo, meek to all of this grandeur.
Here though alone, he was but a speck, one of over a thousand who had sought the meaning of their existence. Whether the others had found theirs, he would never know. There he walked towards the black void lit faintly by the golden flames of torches. He was left in awe with what he saw with his very own eyes. Mayhap in this chapter, the tale of what had been discovered within the Parmamar library would not be mentioned however it would be put instead into description. What Melandro Von Mortem found within its four walls changed his life forever.
