Title: On the Path to Answers
Description: Seeking the history of Valec part I

Obsidian Nocturne - December 23, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
It had been hours since he had awaken from such a dream, the nightmare that flooded his mind with thoughts of a parallel lifetime that was not his to remember. The imagery came alive once more in his mind. Such realism and detail as if they were all a part of his memories. However it was not the dream that was the most disturbing of all the intricate details but the characters that played in his mind as he slept. Only once had he attributed the name of his wife to the demon Valec. He had taken her life without any justifiable reason than to inflict pain yet all of a sudden all the pieces of the puzzle began to form into a larger portrait.

Prior to such night, he had known little of the parasitic soul that had occupied his body. For the longest time, he had only been acquainted with the dark one’s ways; of wretchedness and merciless deliverance. He knew not why he had a liking to bloodshed or the very history that had shaped him to become the cold-blooded executioner nor why he was chosen amongst all of the dying soldiers in a war that transpired over two hundred years ago. It was for these questions that he desperately sought answers, answers that were never given.

This night however, brought to life a clue to the demon’s existence. The being had a life, he breathed and in his time he too had bled like any other. It was the entirety of his identity that Melandro sought in hope that if he had indeed discovered the truth, the truth would shed him light as to how he could cure this seemingly incurable disease, the demonic existence that had plagued him since his youth.

Many would say that immortality was a blessing yet for those who had lived it, it is found to be a curse. For centuries, Melandro had hoped the life that any other mortal had enjoyed: childhood, marriage, fatherhood and the most natural fate that comes to all, death. He enjoyed three of which as much as they were laced with tragedy, but he was denied of the last, the rest that he had for the last hundred years, craved.

Answers. It was for this reason that he walked the streets of Lomendor at such an ungodly hour. It is said that the greatest library stood at the very center of the city… a library that housed the most complete and most concise genealogies of prominent families. If Valec was indeed from a noble bloodline, then he would be found and his secrets would be revealed.
