Title: Demigod (Guardian) Application

Lothlómendil - January 31, 2006 06:24 AM (GMT)
Available Positions:
  • Guardian of War (chaotic evil or chaotic neutral alignment)
  • Guardian of Lightning (any alignment)
  • Guardian of Holiness (lawful good)
  • Guardian of Peace (true neutral)
  • Guardian of Earth (any alignment)
  • Guardian of Wind (any alignment)
  • Guardian of the Moon (any good alignment)
  • Guardian of Stars (any good alignment)
  • Guardian of the Sun (any good alignment)
Not all positions will be filled. Only the best of the best applicants will be accepted, and not everyone can be the best. There are a lot of positions to fill, so it can't be expected that all of them will be filled in any one promotion.

There are some prerequisites you must meet before you can apply. You must:
  1. Have been an active, advanced role-player for at least 3 weeks. If you become inactive after you apply, your application will be removed.
  2. Post often in Arda.
  3. You must exhibit a good knowledge of the rules of Arda and have NO warnings on your account that are less than 3 months old.
  4. Be prepared to wait. Promotions only happen every few months.
If you are interested in becoming a guardian of Arda and meet the requirements, post here with answers to the following:
  • What position are you applying for?
  • How often do you RP?
  • Describe your character. I want to know personal details and general behavior. For example, if a character often has its body possessed by a demon, that is an important detail.
  • How is your character suited for this position?
  • Why do you think that you (not your character) would be a good choice for filling this position?
  • How will you fulfill your role as guardian if your application is accepted? When I ask this, I kind of mean to ask what will you do with the position if it's accepted? What will be your character's continuing goals and challenges? How will it affect your character's storyline? Feel free to elaborate on the many ways your character would be affected by such a change.
  • And give me several examples of your RP skills. Please give at least 5 links (not quotes) to RPs you've done in Arda with your applying account. They must be links to Arda topics, I no longer want to sift through quotes or links to other forums. Please do not give links to posts you've made with an alternate account, as this is a review of your applying character only. These RP samples should not only show your writing ability, but they should be relevant to why you are qualified for the position you desire, expressing character development and element relation.
Any applications of members that do not meet the requirements will be removed.

Please keep in mind that if you get the position, it may technically change your race. If you get the position an announcement will be made, and then you will be given access to the Deity OOC where we can discuss your shrine etc.

And as always, please do not PM me or other members of the staff to ask about the progress or results of the applications, that will only annoy me and lessen your chances.

Winter - December 1, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Here's hoping:

• What position are you applying for?

Guardian of Peace

• How often do you RP?

As often as is possible. Without any internet problems, I’m on almost three times a day to RP and I post as often as I can in the threads I join if I’m able to post.

• Describe the important details of your character. For example, Zaber Slash's character often has his body possessed and that kind of thing. These are IMPORTANT details.

Well Winter is primarily a pacifist, although she will fight if she really needs to which includes defending the peace, protecting lives and anything similar to that. She has never been known to start a fight and is mostly the one who ends it, and quickly. Aside from being half angel, she also has an affinity for ice and water and anything cold, including her personality, she is entirely neutral and never takes sides in an argument making it kind of hard to tell if she’s an ally or not. Most of her emotions are absent, although a few important ones such as fear and stuff like that can be triggered with enough motive (otherwise she would be very boring to RP with). Well to sum it up she’ll basically do only what’s necessary to keep the peace wherever she goes, this includes refraining from drawing her weapon unless she really needs to.

• Why do you think that you would be good for this position?

When I started RPing I was really bad at it, and seeing as I wanted to become a writer I definitely needed improving, Arda has helped me to do that however I feel I still need to get better and gaining an important position will most likely aid me in this goal. Also I don’t like to RP just for the fights, I honestly find fight scenes tedious and very bad for character development, so I won’t be violating Winter’s position by starting or joining fights I would normally avoid.

Well to start with it has already been established that I try to cut down on fighting as much as possible, so I also hope to achieve that with other players, convincing them that there’s more to RPing than beating each other up!
As for Winter herself, her goals will always be the same: She has always stood for the purpose of peace and balance wherever she goes and does anything in her power to restore the balance in a situation wherever she may be. It will also be a great development for Winter in terms of her storyline, originally Winter had no magic abilities and was never supposed to, but becoming a Guardian where magic is something she’ll most likely use regularly will lead to a great development in her character, seeing her learn of new abilities she suddenly possesses and her reaction to them. I’ve always looked forward to using a character in a position of power that he/she never really need or wanted and I’m eager to play her as a person trying to be her old self when everyone else looks up to her.

• and give me several examples of your RP skills. Please give at least 4 links to RPs you've done in Arda. They must be links to Arda topics, I no longer want to sift through quotes or links to other forums.

Guild Meeting, Call to All Who Will Come
A topic concerning the leave of Sartana and the change over of guild masters. It's no secret Winter has at least some feelings for Merenwen, she's not completely heartless, and the events surrounding the meeting are a fine opportunity to create a dilemma for the half angel, especially since she wasn't even there when the attack happened.

A Hunter's Errand
An attempt to get B.A.D.I moving a little, the whole idea of the rebellion seems to have died down and it needed to get a bit more publicity. Plus I needed to show a bit more of Winter's life in relations to the guild and the rest of its members, especially now she's second-in-command.

B.A.D.I Contract - an unlikely ally
Ah, B.A.D.I. To think I looked up to Sarty for so long and he can still impress me. Anyway, this topic is an important step in Winter's storyline, seeing as she has to battle a powerful man and work as a team with four others, not something she's usually accustomed to...

Another Accident
Another B.A.D.I topic, this time in the actual guild. I love RPing in this one, what with Winter's opinion of the guild, her reaction to the uniform, her relationship with Shari, the relationship with Hanzo after the above topic and most fun of all putting Winter in an almost comical situation and seeing how she reacts to it, yes certainly a fun read for anyone...

Winter vs Mia
Another example of a fighting topic, and one showing Winter's reluctance to fight and her weakness to all magic including her own. Since a guardian of peace won't exactly be the sort of person to pick on a young and clearly inferior girl I've made Winter's reluctance to fight as obvious as possible and also reflect on her responsibilities as the B.A.D.I second-in-command.

More than just a thorn
A combined effort with Omrun to make the Erper status and it's just started, may take a while to kick off what with exams and stuff at the moments but I'm sure there'll be plenty of interaction within. Putting Winter in a scene with someone who is essentially her polar opposite is the most interesting thing ever, after all a confrontation between an crazed and animal-like half elf and a cold, hard logical half angel will definitely develop into an interesting plot, who knows, we'll just have to see.

The Perfect
Not much to say for this one aside from it's a display of Winter's desire to keep order and only do what is necessary in order to do so, it also displays her disapproval of senseless killing.

A Day in the Bureau
A single post from the new B.A.D.I topic.

Anika - January 26, 2008 05:17 AM (GMT)
* What position are you applying for?
Guardian of the moon

* How often do you RP?
I am on Arda everyday. I also try too be in more than one rp at a time when time allows and I usually post everyday. If I am not posting I am checking on things and chatting in the Cbox.

* Describe the important details of your character.

Anika is a wondering gypsy, trying to find her place in a cold world. She is a social outcast, who never quite feels at home anywhere in Ea, which causes her to travel often. Her mother had died when Anika was only four and she had been past from noble home to home, exploited for her gift of foresight. This went on for about 15 years before she ran away. She found sanctuary on a war torn moon. Ironically this was the only place that she felt at home and safe. After serving as a medic for some time she did extensive traveling, falling into sin and evil as her only means of survival. That is until she found BADI and her life began to change. They took her in and gave her a loving family and purpose. It was there that she turned her wayward life around, back on the path of good. BADI did wonders for Anika, but it was not her home and her wanderlust set in again. She is currently traveling the world once more looking for her life calling and a place to call home.

* Why do you think that you would be good for this position?

I believe that I would be a good guardian because I am a social butterfly. I am always in the Cbox chatting. I love to talk with others about my/there RPing and am always trying to improve. I also have been on this board for some time and have good knowledge of all the rules

Anika would be good for the position because the moon is more symbolic to her than anyone else. Like the moon among the stars, Anika finds that she is different from everyone else around her. She does her best to fit in and find her place, but in the end she will always be an outsider. Also Anika has traveled all her life, just as the moon has traveled all its life in the skies of Ea. Both her and the moon do their travels by night, A time that Anika has always felt safe in. The night is the time when Anika can be alone and truly be herself. Just like the moon goes through many phases, Anika is always changing as time passes. Because she does not know who she is, she is slowly shaping herself. The moon is currently torn between good and evil. This is very much like Anika's past. She had been a good girl, but forced to do evil things. She had always been attracted to the bad guys and was always getting hurt because of it. But her good soul had constantly won out and slowly but surely she makes her way on the virtuous path.

* How will you fulfill your role as guardian if your application is accepted? When I ask this, I kind of mean to ask what will you do with the position if it's accepted? What will be your character's continuing goals and challenges? How will it affect your character's storyline? Feel free to elaborate on the many ways your character would be affected by such a change.

The first thing Anika would do if she became guardian would be to clean up her moon. She had never been a girl for war, and even when she was part of the war she refused to be a soldier, using her ability to save life rather than waste it. She would join the side of good and help push the already failing evil off her home.

The guardianship would go great with Anika's story. Anika had always been looking for her place and home, and always felt like she was not meant for this world. And that would be true because she was actually meant to be on the moon. She could create her home there and encourage the other wayward travelers of the night to try the moon as well. She would be a beacon of silver light in the darkness, leading others to their purpose.

Also Anika would finally be safe from all those who wish to manipulate her power of foresight. All her young life she had been chased, used, and abused because she had a special gift, and because of this she had always had to run away. Now she would no longer be a little frightened girl, but have the strength and stamina of the always roaming moon.

Basically Anika would be the guardian to the lost, the travelers, and all those who call the night their home, all those who let the silver light of the moon lead them through Ea. I would have Anika act as a mother towards all those who live in the dark of night. Make a new family in place of the one that had been taken from her so long ago.

I would also try to form bonds with many of the other guardians and really let Anika be known among the rest of the community.

Application Tendered 04/02/2008

Hello there!

Here I am once again on the applications forum in my nice suit and tie, briefcase in hand and Curriculum Vitae clutched nervously to my chest. Before we move on to the main interview I will take a moment to address the prerequisites listed and whether or not I have the qualifications!

Have I been an active ARPer for more than three weeks?

The answer here can only be a definitive yes! :xmashappy:

Do I post often in Arda?

I am online almost every day, sometimes for several hours at a time. If I get in to the Cbox all other intentions for the evening usually go out the window. Mostly though I keep well on top of my topics and post within a day of my turn.

Do I exhibit a good knowledge of the rules of Arda and have no warnings on my account less than three months old?

Good knowledge of the rules? I would like to think so, but I learn something new every day. I would say that my general awareness of the rules of Arda is ok, but I have been known to miss some specifics. Which leads nicely into warnings. No official warnings on my account that I am aware of *peers in to check again for whiter than whiteness* but I have posted a couple of topics incorrectly and have been gently warned about dodging the language filter on a couple of occasions for my 'orcish'. Not the best thing to bring up at an interview? Probably not, but honesty is the best policy.

Right then, those are my paperwork credentials, on to the main body of the interview!

What position are you applying for?

The Guardian of Earth! A little un-Wurzag-like you say? Read on!

How often do you role-play?

As long as it is my turn to post and barring unforeseen circumstance, then every day. I usually have around three to five active threads running at any one time and will post in them as swiftly as progress allows. When not actively engaged in writing I am usually reading through other threads that grab my interest or random character profiles. I like to know the ins and outs of the characters I have yet to play with!

Describe the important details of your character.

Well, initially Wurzag was a fairly two dimensional character and I would not have said that he had any important details. An abundance of physical scars and a brutish mentality pretty much summed him up. Recently however he has evolved and become something more than a ugly man with a sword. His body has been inhabited by what what appeared to be a force of chaos after a bout in the arena. However, after several trials and tribulations it has been discovered that it is in fact the tormented forest spirit, more specifically a glade, that had been maddened by the evil and chaos of former hosts and by Wurzag's own inner turmoil. The spirit does not possess him as such, it does not control his physical body and cannot force him to do anything. Instead it uses the power of suggestion to try to get its way, but Wurzag is so thick headed that it sometimes has a hard time. Even more recently, the half-orc has begun to listen to it its desires and has started to gain a greater sense of inner balance.

Why do you think you would be good for this position?

As a person; because I like to think that I have a good level of grammar and spelling as well as the role-play experience to carry it off. I could very well be mistaken in that belief, but then that remains to be seen :xmaswink:. I also have the time and the dedication to devote to the role as well as the ability to lead by example. Finally, I hope that I am pleasant, amusing and helpful on those occasions when I can be found in the Cbox.
As a character; because Wurzag is such an unlikely choice for the role given his beginnings. Initially I was going to take him down the beaten path of the chaotic half-orc berserker, but as he has evolved it has become far, far more interesting to turn him in to the complete opposite. The idea that an ugly, scarred brute can become a peaceful tender of the earth makes for a much more interesting subject than another green-skin warrior.

How will you fulfill your role as Guardian if your application is accepted?

Initially, unless the elevation occured in a great blaze of light and sound, Wurzag would be completely oblivious. He is on a quest for greater understanding and will pursue it to its end. Ultimately he will become a bit like a wandering shaman, traveling wherever the wind takes him to tend to land and people. It is a long road however, one which will change him in many ways and eventually join him with the spirit that inhabits his body. Exaltation to Guardianhood could be the catalyst to trigger the joining of souls which would come as a massive shock to the poor fellow. To suddenly have your eyes opened to the timelessness of the earth is the sort of thing that changes a man, makes him appreciate how insignificant and petty things like wealth and possessions are. Life is a transient thing, merely a single stage in the passing of one form to another.

Ultimately, everything returns to the earth.

That is a staggering realisation for anyone, let alone a half-orc who until recently liked nothing more than a drink and a good fight. The change would turn him once and for all away from his old, self destructive path and forge him into something new and gentle. His shamanic role would become less about tending to the physical health of land and people and more toward spiritual care of the living world. A shepherd or cleric of the earth if you will, who seeks out the places where the land is sick or dying and nurse it back to health. His orcish ferocity would not be completely forgotten however, for who can argue that the earth does not know anger?

To those who would defile the land or despoil its beauty he would be a steadfast warrior. He would only ever use enough force to turn an enemies intentions aside though, enough to convince them of the error of their ways. He never has been and never will be a heartless killer and if he can find a bloodless way to foil a foe then he would always take that option.

Despite the enormity of the change, Wurzag would maintain his friendships, for he is loyal to his friends (the few he has) and would begin to seek out like-minded individuals to aid in the colossal task of protecting the land both above and below. Nothing as organised as a guild, just a collection of like-minded people with a love for the earth and its natural beauty. It would be a good opportunity to role-play with a diverse range of characters, including Guardians and Gods.

I could waffle on for hours about how such a change would affect Wurzag at a fundamental level but you would probably get bored, and I'm sure you get the idea. The jump from confused brute to shaman of the land is one that would be made over time and with considerable effort, and the role of Guardian would both enhance and irrevocably change that journey as well as adding a new level of depth to what has become an adventure of the soul as well as the body.

Give me several examples of your role-playing skills.

With pleasure!

Wurzag vs. Sargtlin Olath
The first round of Zenith's Tournament which saw the half-orc facing off against a recent acquaintance in the disturbing realm of dreams. As well as the more obvious combat aspects the peculiar surroundings allowed the spirit within to project itself into the physical world. Unfortunately, because of the situation and the half-orc's battle lust it was the darker side that came out, the legacy of the former hosts.

The Bone Trail
A short thread that covers the last leg of Taryn and Wurzag's journey to Dori'ba to confront the young mage's nemesis. It was an important one in many ways, not just because of the mission but because it revealed for the first time the depth of friendship that had developed between the two despite their vast differences. Wurzag is only half orc after all. There is humanity in there too, just buried under years of tribal conditioning.

The Path South
Wurzag's restless roaming in search of purpose make him an unusual new friend. This thread is set after the discovery that he has a higher purpose but does not yet know what it is. He is trying to listen to the voice of the spirit but is still too unbalanced inside to hear its voice.

Welcome Company
The direct follow-up to The Path South. Wurzag sets off on his journey to gain a better understanding of what has happened to him with his best friends in tow. Now that he is acting more in accordance with the spirit's nature it is having a larger influence on him and he is starting to loose his aggression and unearth some of his buried human emotions. It is the first step along a long road.

Duel of the Conquerors : The Hall of Heralds
Really only a bit part in this party thread but was amusing to write since it placed Wurzag in what was supposed to be a civilised social gathering. The half-orc introduces his own sort of class to the proceedings and makes some interesting observations.

The Ardian Winter Solstice Festival
I will openly admit that poetry is not my forte but this was a lot of fun to play with. It was exactly Wurzag's sort of party and he was surprisingly at peace in the woodland surroundings. Perhaps the proximity of the wild brought a measure of calm to the raging spirit within?

Ok, I think I have rambled on long enough now, so I humbly submit this to your judgment and wish you all the best!

Thank you for listening!

Nathaniel M. Rystoff - February 15, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
EDITED March 28. Additions will appear as light blue for ease of finding.

Prerequisites;

1.) Have been an active, advanced role-player for at least 3 weeks.
I have, yes. Though it appears I only started today, I waited a while to apply for the position of advanced roleplayer and beyond that waited a short while for approval. I realize it is usually frowned upon to apply so quickly, but my character has been strongly developed (at least in my opinion) and has been around for a number of years.

2.) Post often in Arda.
I try to post at least once a day, as I'm an active member in a large number of topics. Events have arisen in the past that have prevented me, and occasionally I'm left waiting for others, but normally I post as frequently as possible. (On a side note, my average is really low on my account. I think it's because I joined in October and didn't start using it until December, but I'm not completely sure.) One example of my posting frequency might be the postathon, or even the treasure trials, which I posted during as quickly as I could without sacrificing quality. (Within reason. A post talking about pulverizing hippos can only be so serious, after all. XD)

3.) You must exhibit a good knowledge of the rules of Arda and have NO warnings on your account that are less than 3 months old.
I have yet to recieve any warnings, and I have a decent amount of knowledge. I've helped out a few people and posted a number of reviews. Beyond that, I'm also happy to post in the help forums if there is something I'm unclear about. Lately I've been using the help forums more often, but I try to offset that by helping other members in their forums or with constructive criticism in character reviews. I'm usually happy to give an opinion in the Cbox as well. ^_^

----------------------------------------------------

* What position are you applying for?
Guardian of War.

* How often do you RP?
Probably more frequently than is healthy. I'm currently in thirteen roleplays, as a number of them have died or come to a halt. Some of them are very serious threads, such as the Call of the Wild or Of Varanidae, while others are less serious such as Mortal Kombat and Playing. If I'm not working on a response for a roleplay in Arda, I'm usually plotting it out.

* Describe the important details of your character. For example, Zaber Slash's character often has his body possessed and that kind of thing. These are IMPORTANT details.
One of the most defining things about Nathaniel is his utter hatred for any race other than human. He is constantly in the process of trying to annihilate the other races, and in the past lost his job over it. Currently he is in a plot where he's manipulating a scry into working for him. He also has a tendency to make quick decisions that are wrong and hinder him, and other times has a knack for getting lost in wooded areas. Nathaniel hears voices, but they are described as being more like the hiss of roaches; he can't understand it at all and it simply comes across as a sort of white noise.

Obviously Nathaniel enjoys the element of chaos, and typically the more chaotic the place he's in the more happy he is. Chaos does not have to refer to something evil, either; discordant music, mismatching clothing, even colours that contrast sharply stimulate his senses pleasantly. He tends to get anxious when he waits around in a place that is plain and simple, not caring to stick around long. It's possible on a subconscious level this is why he always returns to forestry and such, though it'd never cross the front of his mind.

Naturally, he is very arrogant and self-assured. Most times this leads to ignorance, and offending other characters. He naturally assumes they are just moody cretins, rather than accept he is at fault.

* Why do you think that you would be good for this position?
I believe I would be good for this position because I'm very active and I have a lot of ideas for the role. I personally am very approachable and friendly, so anyone who would want to play with him could. I believe Nathaniel himself would be perfect for the role because he is currently trying to cause a war. In most of my topics references can be seen to him trying to build up his army, which he wishes to do before outright attacking all the races. As I'm involved with so many roleplayers, I think it'd be easy to sweep up a great number of PCs into topics regarding it, so that the army could more or less be in the hands of other players, instead of solely run by a single character.

I feel Nathaniel would be especially good for this because he maintains something of a balance in his personality, which you would expect in a war. Fine hair line cracks that imply he may not be all there (Authmaelui would be prone to 'war fever' when he devoured the slain, which would be rather frightening no doubt), but still enough to trick others into believing he was sane.

I have been thinking about this for over a month. I believe that if Nathaniel received the position, he would realize just how weak and pety humans were. The war on inhumans would be brought to a conclusion, where Nathaniel would appear to 'die' in front of some of his most loyal men, like Skertin. With that false death, he would no longer be shackled to the battle.

From here, Nathaniel would become more of a pupeteer. From the shadows he would whisper in the ears of others, beckoned by violence and whispering in the ears of men to seek their deepest desires. From the side lines he could whisper in the ears of the humans and inhumans, the light and dark, and a thousand other enemies. It wouldn't be about one side winning over the other; merely that there were two sides clashing.

To ensure this, he would adopt different forms, names, etc. (I would purchase a spell for this). He would adopt the name 'Authmaelui' most prominently, but be known as Vicus, Donbe, and many other names. If push came to shove he would masquerade as a medic, or a lieutenant, to give armies the faith they needed to attack their enemies. Then, when they were too knee-deep to pull out, he would disappear.

Over time he would come to realize that the Life Cycle also contains death. And death has a nasty habit of ending wars. So he would try to start a war against Loth (sorry! :lol:), in which paladins and others could be made to see the hypocritic ways and try to fight back.

Finally, he'd probably become somewhat cannibalistic, performing the ritual of devouring the body parts of particularly powerful slain men so that he could injest their abilities. He wouldn't actually get them, but it would develop a blood/flesh lust on his part.

So, yeah. Essentially; manipulate wars from both sides, eliminate death (or find a way around it). That is what I think would happen. Possibly the seduction of a Guardian of Peace if/when one is elected, as peace can lead to even greater conflicts if employed at the right moment. There'd be no love for anyone or thing, just a desire to manipulate and use, then discard like a broken toy when it became boring or failed to please him. Even former allies would be shrugged off.

---On the magic/familiar side of things, I think it'd be cool to have a few more war beasts, perhaps blacksmiths you can hire, and more blood-centric magic. I think bloodshed is one of the prime results of war, so it'd be wicked cool if you could have control and manipulation possibilities through magic spells. Just a few things I thought might be cool include;

Helm of Revelations; Lets wearer see aura, revealing element

Shield of Revelations; Like a steel shield with a glossy front that almost looks like a mirror or glass, which changes different colours depending on the alignment of who struck it last.

Sword of Revelations; Pools of blood touched by this change colour to represent one of the races of Arda. It can't change the blood inside of a living body, but a dead one without circulation could theoretically be changed. Also, when slashed with this blade the blood that comes away on it would be the colour of the creature's race.

Boots of Revelations; These boots change to represent the class of those who wear them. A noble wearing them would have royal looking boots of rich colours, while a fighter would have plated boots. Etc., etc. They cannot be customized, though there is always something unique to the wearer so if two nobles were wearing it the boots would be slightly different between them. Though revealing for whoever wears them, by convincing someone else to wear them you learn their nature. Walk a mile in another's shoes, as they say.
Alternatively, these boots will allow you to mimic other classes.

Cloak of Revelations; When worn you can 'change' one aspect of the above things temporarily. Though you will not receive any benefits (you cannot suddenly spew fire) others will automatically accept you are what you are portraying yourself as, no matter how suspicious (a good-aligned in Drital, for example)

Armor of Revelations; A very powerful armor, depending on what else from the set you are currently using it can half damage taken from certain genders, classes, alignments, etc.

Gauntlets of Revelations; Allows you to use opposite-aligned items. (Evil-aligned using Holy Staff, for example)

```````
Elephant - A large beast not unlike the Calaring Mammoth, though it is smaller and shorter. With its two tusks it can gore enemies, or alternatively it can charge/trample. Its trunk is extremely sensitive and attacks there can usually make it flee. They are fickle and prone to injuring masters for no apparent reason. It can seat three people comfortably.
Elephant Barding - Elephant barding includes armor protecting the trunk and a helm, along with a large sheeting over its back where someone can sit. Optionally a 'carriage' can be affixed there for others to sit in. The carriage allows for four people.
Superior Barding - The same as elephant barding, but there are plates affixed to the legs for extra damage, spikes on the covering of the trunk, and two additional "false" tusks that extend out from the armor.
Rhino - A fairly large beast that is not unlike a smaller version of the elephant. It can also charge/trample enemies or gore them with its horn(s). Rhinos can have either one or two horns, and aren't particularly smart. They are more loyal than the elephant, but don't do nearly as much damage. It can seat one rider.
Rhino Barding - Rhino barding includes a helmet to protect the face, and armor over the back and shoulders. The helmet has two horns that come down from the sides of the face plate, giving it an extra kick when it tries to gore enemies. Additionally, the barding can have swords or poles inserted in the sides so that they hang out and can knock down multiple enemies/structures as they charge by.
Superior Barding - Weaponry barding is the same as the other, but this barding has sockets along the sides and can have swords or poles inserted in the sides so that they hang out and can knock down multiple enemies/structures as they charge by. A large canon is also mounted on its back, and two sacks hang from the side filled with up to four canon balls. It takes a long time to recharge, and it runs the risk of frightening the rhino into doing a roll to get it off.
Manta - A massive aquatic creature that looks like a flattened fish. Though blind, the manta has a large mouth with over thirty rows of teeth, allowing its prey to be sawed in half when it latches on. Its tail is also spiked, which allows for minor damage if it hits an enemy. The manta is typically docile but can be trained to be vicious. The fact they have no eyes means that they can be very hazardous if not used carefully.
Manta Weaponry - The back of a manta can be equipped with something of a saddle, and a mock brittle and reigns also exist. As they are not very agile or sharp with their movements, the backs can be equipped with carriages holding barrels containing a mixture of petroleum and crude oil-- essentially underwater bombs.
Aurochs - A massive bull-like animal renowned for being vicious and difficult to control. They can tear through men with their massive horns and powerful hooves, but they have no concept of ally or cunning. They cannot be trained and attack as soon as they see a moving target, leading to auroch trainers typically blindfolding and binding them.
~~
Blood Hound - A dog that resembles a greyhound and requires little sustenance. They are renowned for their sharp sense of smell, and can be trained to hunt down specific races. Their poor sight and small frames make them poor fighters, however.
Elder Blood Hound - A larger version of the blood hound, they are capable of warding off small foxes and other smaller animals and raise about hip height on a full grown male. Their sense of smell is sharper, and tales abound of them being capable to hunt down specific elements.
Blood Mare - A large horse that is entirely red, including its eyes. It is said to be one of the swiftest horses, though has an ill temprament. It will never work for a good aligned master.
Elder Blood Mare - The same as the blood mare, though it is more demonic. It has a single horn protruding from the snout and a number of spikes protrude down along the back of its neck. Due to this it does not have a mane. This horse will not transform into the Ancient form if its master is not evil-aligned.
Ancient Blood Mare - The eldest form of the blood mares, this horse also has twin feathery wings and two horns protruding from its head to complete the nightmare-ish look. This horse is said to be capable of dissolving into pools of blood and emerging elsewhere. This horse is always evil-aligned and won't work for a master who is not evil as well.
Hatred -- Make one target temporarily turn on allies.
Superior Hatred -- Make all enemies within a fifty foot radius temporarily turn on each other.
Loyalty -- Force one enemy to temporarily ally to your cause.
Superior Loyalty -- Force all enemies within a fifty foot radius to temporarily ally to your cause.
Bloodbath -- Inspire everyone with a fifty foot radius to try and kill the closest target, regardless if they are enemies or not. Caster is not affected by this spell, though is open to attack by nearby victims of the spell.
Minor Blood Bond -- Allows caster to taint their blood so that those who drink it become allies with the caster for a time.
Blood Bond -- Allows caster to taint their blood for a time so that those who drink it become allies and are not willing to directly attack the caster unless under severe circumstances (survival, for example). Usually they will follow any reasonable commands presented to them, and feel a strong friendship towards the caster.
Major Blood Bond -- Allows caster to taint their blood so that those who drink it fall entirely under their command for a time, worshiping the very ground they walk on and willing to follow alost any command and suffer a false love bond. They are unable to harm the caster while under the effects of this spell, and usually aren't aware the feelings they have are false.
Most of these have to do with loyalty/hatred, and I think it'd be nifty to involve them. Obviously it'd be a ton of work though, so... yeah. I totally appreciate you reading them, anyways. XD (And yes I know I'm a total geek for drawing pictures and writing stuff like that when I should have been doing civics.)
* and give me several examples of your RP skills. Please give at least 4 links to RPs you've done in Arda. They must be links to Arda topics, I no longer want to sift through quotes or links to other forums.
Tournament Round 2; Search for the Sanguine Cross -- My biggest posts on Arda, and some of my strongest. Nathaniel's clear human weaknesses are shown, even considering the circumstances. He has to rely on cunning just to know what the words on the paper are, much less what they mean. It involves a lot of detective work on his part, including eating a piece of the paper.
Try-Outs for Phedre's Elite -- Some of my stronger posts, and in it Nathaniel explains why he believes he is a powerful fighter. Also shown in the first post is his distaste for cruelty, shown by his mental assertion that Thayet must be a coward for bullying small butterflies. There's a lot of irony involved in that decision.
This is My Room
This is to show how Nathaniel likes to jump to conclusions about people. At the time the posts were made I wasn't aware Vauduex had actually originally been a thief. XD There is also reference to his army in it.
Your Cities Will Burn
I feel my posts in here very clearly show Nathaniel's personality; a rather arrogant, somewhat controlling figure. He's decided everyone is wrong and that Ita is really his injured friend, and has decided to lure her to Lomedor in hopes of finding her some herbalist to help with the poison he believes she's ingested. His alliance to her is interesting because Tithdaeron is not allied with her, so Nathaniel may have to choose one over the other in the future. (Presently he isn't aware they dislike one another.)
BlackFlame vs. Voice of Chaos
I'm very proud of my posts here, and I feel they reflect my ability. In it, cunning has to be used to defeat the powerful duo of Wraith and Jupiter. To meet this challenge, Jade and Nathaniel are forced to become allies and work as one efficient unit. I feel it was accomplished, as the metaphor of a two headed snake arises. There is also a lot of imagery that I'm happy with in it, and I feel the damage ratio (that which he was able to give out versus that which he received) was fair given who he was and who he was up against.
Tension
Only one post so far, but I still think it reflects my writing ability accurately. It also illustrates a more human and realistic side to Nathaniel, as he's worried about his familiar. Worthy of note as well is the avoidance of controlling Tithdaeron's character in the past, and instead leaving what was said implied.
So, yeah. Thanks for reading! ^_^ Happy belated Valentines Day!
Fira - July 1, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
Hello. Fira applying for Guardian position. ^_^ *crosses fingers*
What position are you applying for?
I am applying for Guardian of the Stars.
How often do you role-play?
I role-play daily and when I do not have a post to make, I am in the role-play suggestions forum to see if there are any that I can join. To further prove my diligence and activity, I am in a total of eighteen role-plays (though the number is rapidly increasing); a majority of which were created after my advanced role-player status was granted and contain many posts made by me.
Describe your character. I want to know personal details and general behavior. For example, if a character often has its body possessed by a demon, that is an important detail.
Fira is an overall friendly half-elf who left her home in the forest in search of an adventure. She has a deep amount of compassion to every being, regardless of their alignment, and so she does her best to prevent mindless kills by defending the innocent. Ultimately, she is a kind soul that wishes to see no harm done to anyone that does not deserve it.
How is your character suited for this position?
Fira is suited for the position of Guardian of the Stars because of her devotion to both the stars and Ardians.
After she decided to leave her mother, she has been helping people in may ways throughout their lives. She uses her knowledge to the benefit of others and prefers to use the light of the stars rather than the blade of a sword. So, by becoming the Guardian of this element, she has the ability to further help people.
In the earlier years when she was learning sorcery, she found that she was quite skilled and confident in the Light element and, more specifically, the Stars. Ever since then, she has looked to the stars for guidance and with joy. During a point within every day, Fira looks up to the sun with a warm smile and determines the time of day. To her, the stars are a constant friend, which has helped her deeply ever since the strife that she had in her childhood.
Overall, her devotion to the stars is deep and she has often prayed to Kieraline in search of guidance in times of need; which has lead to a strengthening of her faith.
Why do you think that you would be a good choice for this position?
I believe there are two aspects that must be respectfully filled for the position of a Guardian: duties as the Guardian and duties as the role-player.
Just as Fira, I hold a sense of wonder and devotion to the stars. I have spent numerous hours gazing at the constellations and I, just like my character, honor the sun and use it to tell time. Although it is important for Fira herself to be devoted, I think that it is more important in a way that I am devoted because then it ensures that I am willing to fulfill the duties as Guardian of the Stars. After all, it does not make sense for one to apply for a position centered around an element that they do not respect.
For the role-playing duties, I believe that Guardians, as well as other deities, serve as role-player role models in posting and should be willing to help others in both role-play and writing. I fulfill these items by my excellent grammar and creative flow in my posts as well as by joining people’s role-playing topics and reviewing both their characters and posts.
How will you fulfill your role as Guardian if your application is accepted?
If my application for this position is accepted, Fira’s first thought would be to focus upon the people of Arda. She will see to it that she answers to the prayers of anyone that calls upon her and aide Kieraline within the temple. She will also journey about to help heroes with the light of the stars and ensure that the Light is kept strong.
As for myself, I will remain as an active role-player, not only to keep the title, but also to continue to help people with their writings, characters, developments, and plots. Since I do not believe that Guardians should only be concerned with other Guardians, Goddesses and Gods, advanced role-players, and expert role-players, it can be safely assured that I will role-play with all members of Arda equally.
What will be your character’s continuing goals and challenges?
Fira’s continuing goals and challenges will be: to ensure justice and to help Ardians on their quests. She will also be continuing her training in become a better sorceress by learning new spells of the celestial. The main challenge for her personal development will be to better her confidence on the battlefield. The main goal for her personal development will be to seek out her lost brother.
How will it affect your character’s storyline? Feel free to elaborate.
By becoming Guardian of the Stars, Fira’s storyline will be effected in a series of positive and negative ways.
Acquiring this position will both honor and influence her to help others even more than she already does. She will consider this as an honor because she has often prayed to the Goddesses and Gods for confidence and courage. So she will consider her becoming a Guardian as a great blessing that the Valar are pleased with her actions. Since this is how she will view it, Fira will be very grateful and take her role as a Guardian quite seriously. Most of time will then be spent answering to the calls of others because she feels as though she must pass the blessing of the deities on; yet she will still be willing to come to Ardians that have not called upon her. She will use her abilities to help heroes and heroines alike so that they may find a form of happiness as she has done. Her actions will lead her to become one of the well-known Guardians, though she will not be doing so for popularity.
Since Fira would be spending so much time as a Guardian and playing her role, she will lose track of her main goal of finding her brother for quite a while, though she will continue to improve in her confidence. Yet, after some time, the knowledge of her existence will pass from one ear and to the other, which leads to her brother finally managing to seek her out.
Give five links that are examples of your writing skills and why you are destined for this position and also how your character has developed.
1. Daydreaming. After some time of adventuring, Fira decides to go to Alulanta Falls. She meets a strange man while she is there who appears to be troubled and decides to help him out. This topic contains a majority of the overall character development results as well as Fira’s beliefs.
2. If You Wanta Play is a prime example of Fira’s beliefs. A soul-eating Teletubby comes into Lomedor one morning while Fira is supposed to be learning how to be a Performer. At first, Fira demands that the dark creature leaves without harming anyone. Then when it attacks her, she pays it little heed. It is only when the lives of innocent children are at stake that a battle is started in the square.
3. Just Visiting. After praying in the Sanctuary of the Angels, a fight erupts between an elf and a strange man. Fira fears for the elf and chases after them to the outskirts of the city upon seeing that the elf’s friend has been kidnapped by the strange man. In the end, she ends up joining the elf to find his friend and they venture into the mountains. This topic shows Fira’s selflessness and loyalty to those in need while also further developing her as a character.
4. The Nature of Warriors is character development topic that was started in order to progress Fira’s confidence on the battlefield. She journeys to Battlestand one day and witnesses two warriors fighting each other. Inspired by the great skills and mannerisms of one of them, Fira decides to ask him to be her mentor.
5. Shelter from the Storm... is a good role-play. Fira enters a tower to escape from a storm in the grasslands and meets an elf and a strange Archangel who have also fled from the storm.
