Title: New Post Minimum Instated
Lothlómendil - January 27, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
Recently I have seen a LOT of posts that are very short, and have very little content to them. I have seen so much, that despite the way I have liked keeping things, I have decided to create a minimum word / sentence count for all RP posts. The new rule is as follows:
| QUOTE |
| You must post at least 25 words, contained in at least 3 sentences. This applies to all regular RP forums. The advanced RP forums have a higher limit that you can read about in the ARP rules topic. |
http://s4.invisionfree.com/Arda/index.php?...indpost&p=39626This limit isn't a hard one to reach, an easy task, but it is needed. So make sure you are keeping track of your word count now, as the moderators and I are watching to make sure this rule is enforced from now on.

Sounds good to me. Makes it more fun when people post more then a sentence. :)
Blaez - January 27, 2006 02:59 AM (GMT)
>.< But sometimes it's hard to think of what to post.
Oh well. ^^
Good Idea.
Raven Silverflame - January 27, 2006 04:37 AM (GMT)
*wah* So this is what got me warned, huh? I'm really sorry and it won't happen again...
Kithara Darkmist - January 27, 2006 04:46 AM (GMT)
Ok, I agree...this will be fun...*^_^*
Sharzela - January 27, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
it is good! for those of you who struggle to think of stuff to write; read Loths topic on improving your RPing skills.
Derian - January 30, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
Actually, this has been kind of needed for a while, and I appreciate the effort in enforcing this Loth. It was getting discouraging to have a thread destroyed by a not so subtle short post. Looks like this will remedy that, and I appreciate it again and thank you for instututing it.
Serafina - February 1, 2006 10:31 PM (GMT)
....you know for people who don't want to count their words, theres a javascript word counter that you can use as a footer, just a suggestion, but still this is a good rule! Its hard to keep a topic alive with short posts.....*tackle hugglez Loth*GOOD RULE!!
Ploay - February 1, 2006 11:13 PM (GMT)
I'm already seeing some good changes cuz of the rule ^_^ thanks Loth! hm, I was going to tackle hug her too but I didn't want to push it, your so brave go you, wooot! :w00t:
Derian - February 1, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
All you have to do is type the response in Microsoft Word and use their word count and spell/grammar check...
Ploay - February 1, 2006 11:23 PM (GMT)
ooooor if you have an old computer and it has word perfect and not microsoftword like me for instance...go to file, propertys then click on the information tab. It will tell you how many pages you have, how many words there are, how many sentences, how many words in a sentence, ect
^_^ hope this helps
Arachne - March 23, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
hmmm....
But what if the post we're putting up is only a few words because we're depending on someone else for what happens next?
How can we post thoughts words or actions we don't know will happen yet?
Daei - March 23, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
well, either you need their post so much that you simply don't reply or you do reply and talk about what your character thinks and what kinds of things they're doing. Give an example (and maybe move your question to the help section instead?) and maybe people will be able to help you better.
Sol - March 23, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
either way its a much needed rule realy short posts bug me, ive seen ones with barly a sentence, its not enough to rp with a good paragraph i feel is minimum but 25 words should be easy enough for people to reach and it should keep posts to a good length
Ploay - March 23, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
if it were me I would make the rule diffrent...people would have to make 500 words muhahahaha...that would be fun...but then it would get old then people would stop rping...so yeah I guess 25 is reasonable...
Dravach - March 23, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
I've seen it on other rp's where someone makes a huge post with 4 long paragraphs about how they skillfully lunged at there enemy then someone replies with one sentence "He dodged teh sord n stbbed him in teh hart." Enough to make anyone cringe...

|
Notice the WITCH he put in capitals is the wrong one. It should have been which. And has he heard of a little word called punctuation?
Ploay - March 23, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
come on don't be so hard, maybe if someone would tutor some of these newbies there would be no problem...*looks for a tutor* he should check out the tips to improve your rp skills...then maybe someone could help him with spelling...doesn't windows word or omething like that help, with spell checker and english?
Dravach - March 23, 2006 08:51 PM (GMT)
I have google toolbar which I use to spell check my work (If I remember). It's free to download and really useful.
Ploay - March 23, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah google rocks, but I wub my word perfect : 3
Sol - March 23, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
lol i just you my email spell checker but i realy am sick of rpers who think its ok when they most about a sentence... its not! most of us put a little effort into it
Aslyn - March 23, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
Thorgrim posted a 14 word RP, his lowest yet. His average is about 20-25 words per post, which is much too short in a topic that averages 3-4 paragraphs
Ita the Reckless - March 23, 2006 10:23 PM (GMT)
It's too bad that 14-word post was in MY topic.
*cries*
But yes, someone needs to knock some sense into a couple new RPers. I'd probably get too angry too quickly if I ever attempted it. -.-
Tips to Improve RP Skills FTW!
Albex the Scorned - March 24, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
Ita those are my feelings exactly.
Fionn - March 24, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
I'll admit that I am the king of short posts, but I am careful in my word choices to be as descriptive as possible. I also use Word or some other document program for spelling. This would help push the people to be more creative or make the lazy ones leave.
TheMageMorris - March 24, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
It really shouldn't be that hard for anyone in junior-high and up. If any newcomer (is that politicly correct?) would like some help other than "the tips" then I would be willing to run a special quest giving out tips as we go along. Note if anyone decides to do this don't get mad if I criticize you.
P.S. I can also think of some older members who would need this, but for the sake of being polite I will not give names.
Adsero - March 24, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
crappy-posters annonymous? ^^ Hopefully if people continue to report when others post crappy single sentence posts they'll get a clue.
Derian - March 24, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
I use to hail from that club
Drate - March 24, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
well it doesnt seem to be hard to keep up with the advanced one (im not even that) but my posts are rubbish though i have to admit
Lef - March 24, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
I shall teach you young grasshopper
Dravach - March 25, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
Is it just me or when I read through my posts they don't seem to flow very well? Is that just because I read them or is it because they don't flow? Be honest please.
TheMageMorris - March 25, 2006 03:09 PM (GMT)
It's not bad. It could be better, which is true for everyone; but it's not bad.
Yumi - March 25, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah no one is perfect... well there is one guy who is close to perfect..ahem..but no one is perfect and everyone could learn a little from everyone ^_^
TheMageMorris - March 25, 2006 04:35 PM (GMT)
Dengar - March 25, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
I agree with you that everyone can learn something from someone else
Ploay - March 25, 2006 11:34 PM (GMT)
Hm, well there are alot of people who are near perfect (Yumi btw) hmm but the person I was talking about was...tehehehe
I'm too shy
