Title: Fooling with Fire

Ayumi Aomori - November 25, 2007 10:12 AM (GMT)
In the dead of night all sorts of creatures appear.

The camp had been set up. Although Ayumi had little supplies, she could make do with all that was around her. She had no flint but it hadnt rained in some days and the wood was perfectly dry. She had grouped together some wood and taken two pieces, carved one end with her dagger into a speared end and made a small dip in the other. She rubbed them together for a couple of minutes until finally she was granted a golden flame, she placed the wood wood amongst the pile and waited for the fire to grow.

Leaving Lomedor hadn’t been the wisest of decisions.

The crickets were out and chirping and the sound of dry leaves cricketed with each passing corner. The dark of night hadn’t spurned his journeying spirit and the creatures of the night couldn’t see Terran, at least that’s what he thought. The stars in the sky blanketed the heavens and all the fairy could think of was his past. Back then, his mother would sit by his side and teach him that the stars could tell the future, but only the centaurs knew of that information.

His mother…

His father…

The image of both his mother and then later his father dead left him with only a journey ahead. What is to become of just a fairy? What can a simple illusionist with flute capabilities do? Did they die because they were unfaithful to the gods, or did the gods just hate him? Is death out of the grasp of gods? Stupid gods!

The thoughts dissipated with the suddenly dim flame conjured before him in the distance. Only travelers could be…OH HO! Nice! The fairy’s mind weaved ideas like a web, each connecting to another until his wings fluttered in the distance, moving the leaves like an animal.

Flying throughout the bushes, he thought the ending of this little charade is to create an animal with a bit of magic. The illusion of a small enough dragon behind the bushes. A good black one would make the illusion great.

The feeling of guilt never passed through his mind and her reaction would be priceless.

Flying up onto a tree, he decided if caught he would try to fly away…far far away. Playing his flute he hadn’t thought that she might be able to hear him. She couldn’t have that sensitive of ears.

Ayumi stared into the flames, watching their brute power tear away and destroy life in a second, nature's dark side. But if all of nature could bring death and distruction shouldnt all nature be the dark side? No, not all things nature produced were so foul. Flowers were pretty and filled the place with sweet aroma's, yet the darker side of her mind told her thus, a flower's beauty measures its poison. Yes, maybe it was right, there was a dark side to all of nature, the only thing that changed it was choice.

Feeling the heat on her face she looked away and up towards the light of the stars. For years she had used the stars as her guidance, they were her rock rooted in her soul. She often prayed to the gods and godesses of light but mainly those of the stars. She sighed, if only she could see them all.

Orion shivered, it was getting to be around twilight, cold and dim. He scanned the horizon, then seeing a small red glow to the North, began to scamper towards it, dodging under tree branches and leaping over roots and bushes. He was successfully clearing all of the rocks and natural clutter on the ground, but soon his luck wore out in the dim light.

THUD

Orion's face met the earth with a small thud. Now closer to the red glow, which he was guessing was a fire, Orion looked around, hoping no one heard it on this quiet evening. Slowly picking himself up, Orion rubbed his sore face where he now had a dark bruise. The red glow was getting nearer every second, and when Orion arrived where he thought was close enough to it not to be seen or heard, he stopped. Peering through some leaves and rushes that draped in front of him and the subjects near or at the red glow, Orion could see a girl in front a fire. Just seeing the warm, crimson, flame cheered him up a little. He was on break from bounty hunting for a short while, not having any crooks or criminals near where he was. Sighing inwardly, Orion sat down on the slightly damp forest floor, resting his head on a nearby rock, wincing at the chill of it's cold temperature, then falling asleep, a quaint smile on his face.
