Title: Unexpected information
Description: -OPEN TO ALL-

Lyon - November 5, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
A library was not a very common place for a mercenary to visit. They were normally out in the wild, doing who knows what. Not very often could they find the time to sit down and enjoy a book. However, this day saw one of those mercenaries, sitting in the library, with, behold, a book.

Lyon didn't really know why he had come here. Things seemed to have slowed down for him, and as of yet he had found no work by which to occupy his time. So he had wondered into this large public bilding, to find himself surrounded by books of all sizes. He hadn't been exactly thrilled. However, he had found some interest in a book describing the strategies used by many past generals during war. After roughly five minutes, though, he had gotten bored of it. Just reading about something wasn't enough. You had to be there, hear the sounds, smell the smells, see the sights.

After putting that book up, he had found one about the "art" of swordfighting, which was what he was reading now. It listed the basics of swordplay, but Lyon already knew all of that. Sighing, he got up, stuck the book back in the general location of the place it had been previously, and scanned some random shelves, looking for something that might pique his interest. His eyes stopped on a book about demons.

Picking it up, he took it back to his previous spot, an empty table situated away from the majority of people in the library, and opened it up to a random page. He looked at the page, and read:

QUOTE
In the first ages after the coming of Elves and Men, there was a powerful, dark Maia that was a follower the the evil God of Darkness, named Irm'kshrauko, the Demon of Evil Desire. His strength was great, and his intentions malicious. He became bent on creating an army of elite creatures of darkness so that he may lead the most glorious army of Raku, and he quickly spread his own seed to begin his legion. His ultimate hope was that his strength and numbers would grant him the favor of Raku, and inspire the Dark god to take him as his Guardian of Evil. The first host of his creation were the most powerful, but did not wish to follow Irm'kshrauko, and turned against him. Those that came later were less powerful, but more faithful to their master. All Rauko are descended from this Maia's lineage, forever bearing the strength and evil of their twisted creator.

Lyon looked up from the page, a sick feeling beginning to form in his stomache. He had never before thought of his demonic blood. It was something that hadn't affected his life directly, therefore it had been kept away from his mind. But this was saying...

So...that means that all demons...that my father was born to serve Raku? To serve evil? But...he was different...he didn't desire slaughter, like most of the creatures do. But, in the end...he went insane...was that because of his demon instincts? Because he had to kill...to be satisfied...?

Lyon's eyes stared off into the distance, becoming thoughtful. He hadn't thought of his parents in a very, very long time. He had lived his life as a mecenary, never thinking that his roots were important. He had all the appearances of a human, fortunately, so he had never had to deal with the prejiduces that came with being a half-breed.

If my father went insane because he was a demon...and I inherited his demonic blood...does that mean...that my purpose is to serve evil? Am I going to go insane too?

Irritation at his own foolishness rose up, and Lyon scolded himself. "Moron." He said aloud, though he was talking to himself. "Stop being a little wimp. Whatever happens, happens."

Stiill, just out of curiousity and a mild interest, he decided that he would look further into this book. Opening to a different page, he leaned back in his chair and engrossed himself in the words.

Valynna - November 8, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Again Valynna found herself among the books in the Parmamar Library, for some reason no matter how far she traveled, she seemed to be pulled back here every time. She hate to think of it, but she seemed to find some sort of home here. Unfortunately the librarians wouldn’t let her sleep here, though they have made their point on having her work here. The thought did tempt Valynna to give up her ways, being around all the arcane books and all, imagine what she could learn if she could stay here days on end. But she was not willing to give up her goal, part of which included challenging herself to grow stronger. You can’t really have a good fight against a bookcase.

Wondering the shelves filled with books she wasn’t sure where she would start. She had already pulled one book of the shelf, it having to do with the an explorer, or adventure. But she was still always on the look out for a new magic book. It was in this daydream walk of hers that she heard a nearby person say something out loud. His frustration grabbed her interest, not to mention that she caught a glimpse of his book. She knew the book he was ready, though why would a human want to read it was beyond her capabilities, though in here she found a lot of people reading thing she wouldn’t have expected.

Walking up to his table, she took a seat across from him, dropping her book so that it made a loud thud as it hit the table. Her long black hair was tied up in a messy looking bun, part of it trailing down her back. It was an unusual hair style for her. She peered at the man across from her with her blood red eyes, her lips turned into a smile, revealing small fangs. But she said nothing, after she took in his appearance she opened her book and began to read…in the middle of the book…nothing was making much sense. But this wasn’t about reading this guy’s adventures, she wanted to see if she could pry out the reason for this human to read a book meant for demons.

Lyon - November 8, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
He attempted to understand the book he was reading, but he had little luck. All it was talking about was the different kinds of demons, their various powers…things of that nature. Lyon didn’t really know what he was looking for, anyway. He doubted he would find answers to his own questions in a few minutes, and he had never been one to sit down and research a subject for hours on end. He became bored far too quickly. It was a rather sad flaw of his, for he had never underestimated the value of knowledge. He knew how important it was, but unfortunately, he had only gained a minimal amount of that knowledge in his travels.

As he tried to find a page that made sense to him, he heard a loud thud right across from him, and his head shot up to see a black-haired girl smiling at him. This unexpected sight threw him off quite a bit, and he thought there was something a little off about the girl, but he said nothing. However, as she sat down and started to read her book, a rather aggravated look came onto his face, and he looked to his left and right, seeing several tables at which she could have sat. Yet, for some reason, she had chosen this one. Lyon wasn’t exactly anti-social, even though he often came across that way. However, when he was lost in thought, as he was now, he liked to be alone.

For several minutes, he ignored the girl as he still searched through his rather confusing book. Finally, unable to find anything of interest, he looked up at her and said “I assume you have something to say to me?” He gave her intent look, closing his book in the process.

Valynna - November 9, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
Valynna saw the annoyed look the man gave her as he took a loot around him, realizing she had sat here on purpose. He seemed to be having problems with his book, well what else was to be expected by a human reading a demon book. But she said nothing and watched out of the corner of her eye the frustration of having company and not understanding his book the man was experiencing. Finally he couldn’t stand her anymore and spoke up.

Valynna gave a mocked look of surprise as if wondering what she had done wrong. But she quickly shoved it off and replaced it with a more inquisitive look. “Yes.” She said quickly but then paused watching him trying to read her intentions, she was doing the same. Judging by the frustration she assumed he was the type that don’t pick up books that often, that told her he was either very bored at the moment or he was trying to find something in particular.

“I find it interesting when a human picks up a book on demons. What made you chose this one?” Valynna said with a more sincere tone, she truly was curious why this man would read this book. She was also a bit surprise that he had not figured out her own demonic heritage, again proving that her Mother was right when she said she didn’t look like a true demon.

Lyon - November 9, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
As he had thought, the girl agreed to his assumption. She did have something to ask him. However, before she asked, she paused, watching him. Lyon stared at her plainly, wondering what it could be. Finally, she inquired about his book. It seemed that she had been observant and noticed what he was reading. He supposed it would be odd for a human to be reading such a book unless they were some type of scholar, which he most certainly did not look like. He didn't like this line of questioning, however. It might lead to an unpleasant subject.

"It's not really any of your business," he muttered, too lowly for her to hear. Then, he said to her, louder, "Why are you so interested in it, may I ask?" He wasn't trying to be unpleasant, but he wanted to avoid telling her his true purpose for reading the book. He wasn't ashamed of what he was, but others might not take it so well. He most certainly wasn't about to tell a complete stranger. "It... just interested me. No other reason." He looked back down to the book, a slight frown on his face. He really did doubt he would find answers in it. Besides, it wasn't like it mattered...or did it?

He glanced up at the girl, and shrugged. "Maybe...I'm just trying to find out a little more about myself." Quickly, he changed the subject. Motioning towards the book the girl was reading, he said, "A book about exploring? Why would you read that? You look like a traveler yourself, why would you want to read about it?" He glanced up at her face, noticing her eyes, and muttered, this time audible, "Red is an unusual eye color."

Valynna - November 10, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
Valynna’s breath caught in her throat, holding it in until she could come to terms with what the man just said. If he was searching for himself, and reading a book on demons, could he be like her? A half-demon? But could she ease this guy by telling her own secrete of being a half-demon. She released the breath she was holding, not yet, she told herself, like the man across from her she couldn’t trust him yet to reveal such a secret. So, she only had a theory of what he was hiding, could she play this conversation out so that they both can find the common ground their shared?

“My eyes?” She asked, thinking of tackling that question first. “I guess they are unusual to humans…but not so much where I grew up.” She said, a teasing smile on her lips.

“As for the book, well I usually read Arcana books, but I need a change.” She said with a matter of fact tone in her voice. “Yes, I’m a traveler, though I find it interesting on hearing other people’s accounts and situations on their travels. You know it’s amazing how much and little has changed for travelers over the years.” She gave the man a smile.

Taking another look at him, she couldn’t figure out if he really was a half-demon or not, he didn’t have the appearance of one, but then again, those born away from their demonic half probably are able to adapt better then those born within the demons villages. He was obviously born away from his demon half, she wondered how his life had been if he didn’t have any physical demon appearance.

Lyon - November 10, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
"Where you grow up, huh?" he muttered, but didn't pursue the subject. Red eyes weren't exactly commom, but they were seen often enough. It wasn't normally an eye color that humans took, however. Sometimes, there might be some abnormality that caused them to have them, but more often than not, only through some strange magical influece could humans have an unatural apearance. Otherwise, the person was another kind of race. Whatever the case for this woman, she looked human enough to him, though he couldn't exactly be called a good judge of that.

"Arcane books..." he shook his head. "I've never had much success with magic. It seems like a dangerous thing to play with. Dangerous to fight against, too." He listened to what she said about her current book, and nodded. "Yeah, I suppose you're right. Everyone is different, has their own opinions, their own perspective. Reading about another's point of view would have its benefits, I guess."

However, some opinions are universal, he thought as, sighing, he glanced down at his own book. Most everyone wouldn't think twice about killing a demon. People see them as monsters, as hideous beasts without feeling. And maybe they're right...but my father didn't fit that stereotype, now did he?

Picking up the book, he showed it to the girl, and said, "Tell me, miss, what is your opinion on demons? Most see them as evil mosters, beasts that deserve nothing more than a quick grave. A sword is what would greet one if it appeared before the average human. And you? What do you think?" She would probably find this a random question, but he didn't really care. His mind was in a strange place at the moment.

Valynna - November 13, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
Yet again, Valynna found herself struggling to find the proper words to his questions, to another human it would seem a random question, to her….it was personal. She began to shift in her seat, loosing some of her cool. But she still couldn’t help but smile, after all she had thought the same question herself especially when she had left her village.

“Demons are just as you said, monsters who care for nothing else but to spill blood, weather it be in a fight or against innocents. They don’t have much of a conscious, probably why they do those horrific facts.” She said, though her tone implied that she has personal experience dealing with demons. “Though not all demons appear like monsters. The real dangerous ones are those that resemble humans or other races, I guess because they are able to walk among them without being attacked on the spot.” This time she had a far off look on her face, is that what she was? An even more dangerous demon then those from her village? She was actually describing her mother, who had a almost human appearance to her, except for her fangs, unusually hair colour and her horns.

She then gave a huge sigh as if trying to release a heavy burden. “As for your first question, on where I grew up, well it’s more of whom I grew up around. I pretty much grew up in an isolated village of….” She couldn’t say it, what if he wasn’t a demon like her, what if she was going to expose herself then he go and tries to kill her like he just did. Her voice trailed off, and she sort of gestured to his book.

Lyon - November 16, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
Her reply to his question was expected, and he wasn't surprised by her words. It pretty much said what anyone else would. Demons were evil, despicable monters. They deserved to die. They were the epitome of darkness, of murder. Nothing good existed within them...

Lyon didn't exactly believe differently, he simply hadn't thought much about the subject. He now was presented with odd thoughts and ideas. He felt off, as though there was something strange in the air. The girl herself seemed a little tense, though it might only be his imagination. Her next words were strange, as she amended her earlier statement about where she grew up. She seemed unale to speak the last words, as though something were holding her back, and motioned toward his book. Not quite comprehending, he glanced at it, confused, and with a small frown, he looked back up at her.

"If there is something you do not wish to tell me," he said, "there is no need to. I have no desire to pry into anything personal. But now, I have another question for you..." He pondered it for a moment, than said, quietly, "You have such a negative opinion towards demons...you act as though you have had many dealings with them. I myself have only ever met one true demon, and I only saw him in a human form, such as what you just decribed. Now, does the opinion you have towards demons apply also to those who have demonic blood in them? Do you think, that even mixed with another race, that same insane ferocity carries over to the offspring...? Do you think that they are monsters, too?" He was very seriously putting the lady on the spot, but he wasn't paying any attention towards being polite. His thoughts were being spontaneously dictated into words, and he was being a bit careless with all these questions. However, for the moment, he was totally unaware of what the girl might be thinking.

Valynna - November 17, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
Valynna felt a small relief ease out of her body language, his words that he didn’t pry into other’s was comforting. But she already knew that, it was after all her who was trying to pry out the true reason of this man being. She must have been getting close, she watched his reactions to her answer, he seemed that she was telling everything directly at him. She wasn’t, if anything she was describing what was in her, somewhere deep within her that she hasn’t been able to open.

Then his next question came, Valynna should have expected it, it was probably the next logical question in their line of conversation. But it was his naive curiosity that held her attention, that made her smile at something he didn’t know. He had already surprised her enough with his random, but direct questions about her demon heritage, this was yet another personal question, but it seemed to her, he was thinking more of himself then of her and her reaction to this question.

“I have negative thoughts of demons because I grew up with them.” Valynna said in a whisper. “That opinion I have towards other Demons doesn’t apply to half demons because I am one. As for inheriting their ferocity and insane nature I’m not sure. All my life I wished I was more like them, I wished I had their power but no matter how much I trained myself their power was always too much for me.”

Valynna was sincere with her words, she felt as if she had definitely met another half demon like her, and he need to know that there were others like him who are looking for answers too. Though she wondered why he would question about inheriting their power, was he scared of what that might be? She had never thought of it that way, but then that would be due to her upbringing.

“You know that’s a very deep question, I’ve asked it myself, but it seems I’ve asked it in wanting while you seemed to be nervous of it?” She hinted her question to the man across from her. “You know, the more we talk the more I feel as if you have a similar secret to share. I’ve already exposed mine, and I’m not wanting to have others spread it around.” This time she had more of a threat behind her words.

Lyon - November 17, 2007 01:55 AM (GMT)
A half-demon!? I thought there was something off about her, but my suspicions were not directed towards such an accusation...

So thought Lyon as he heard the red-eyed girl's confession. She was born among demons...she was a half-demon, just like himself. Surprise and the sheer irony of the situation struck Lyon like a hammer, and his amazement was apparent on his face. However, he quickly shook it off, and merely grunted. For one full minute, he was silent, thinking hard. Then, finally, he nodded, and looked up at the newly-revealed half-demon.

"You need not worry about me passing along your secret to any. I've no reason too nor will I ever. I understand your desire for secrecy..." He looked down at his hands, and continued.

"I, too, am a...half-demon. Rarely have I thought about my roots, as I deemed them unimportant. As you can tell by my human appearance, I haven't had any of the hatred and prejudice that is aimed towards half-breeds. I've lived as a human, nothing more, nothing less."

He looked back up at her, his voice becoming tight. "Your assumption is correct. There is a certain aspect of being born with demon blood that I'm apprehensive about. You claim you want to be like them? So you want to be what you just described, that which you have such a negative opinion of?"

He sighed, and shook his head. "Forgive me," he said. "I don't mean to judge. I'll tell you my fear. My father was a demon, my mother, a human. It might be hard to believe, but my father was able to settle down with a family, despite what he was. He was as good a parent as any, and I can claim that I had a good childhood. But in my teen years, my father went traveling for a few years, and upon his return, he was delirious. All he talked about was murder and death. In time, he attempted to kill...me. My mother stopped him with a knife, and...well, long story short, they're both dead now." He said all of this very quickly, his fist clenching and unclenching during the tale. It felt strange to be telling a complete stranger this, though it was now clear they shared a very large similarity. He wondered what she thought of him now, now that she had pratically heard his entire life story.

He sighed yet again, and said, with his eyes staring straight at her, "My demon father lost his sanity. I have no desire for that to happen to me."

Valynna - November 18, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
Valynna watched the man’s expression as she told him her secret, her face held that of amusement at his reactions. Her lips curled upwards revealing her small fangs. This was going to be interesting, she thought to herself as he then revealed his own identity to her, along with his story. Valynna leaned back in her chair, understanding that her first intuition of this guy was right, that he too was a half-demon. But his life was completely different then hers, how could a demon live with a human like his father had, where did they live that such a life could be possible? Her mind was still reeling around that problem as he then told her about his father’s insanity. Now that was truly interesting, and her face showed that. She leaned in towards the man.

“That does not sound normal, even for demons. I mean, they hunt and kill at random, but usually not towards those they are related too. Yes my mother tormented me but never really to the point of sheer insanity, she always had a plan to it, always kept me alive for whatever reason she had. From what you’ve said he must have been infected with something to make him act that way….” Valynna trailed off, truly curious at his father’s behaviour. It was a mystery, and she couldn’t help but feel drawn into it, why did this demon whom seemed to have abandoned his demon life to live and raise a child born of a human.

“As for why I want to be more like the demons…it’s revenge. I’ve haven’t forgiven them for all the pain they caused me growing up. I want to gain their strength and power and show them that I can be a somebody and take my revenge out on them. So…I guess I do want to be what I despise the most about my demon heritage.” Valynna said with a shrug, she really didn’t care what she said before, demons where like she said but if it meant become something similar to carry out her revenge, then she was fine with it.

“But…I’m more interested about your father…where did he go on his adventures? Maybe there’s a clue that would cause him to react like that.” Valynna smiled, was she making a friend here? That would be a first. “My name’s Valynna.”

Lyon - November 20, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
Lyon was taken aback as the girl told him her name. That one friendly gesture surprised him greatly. During the course of their conversation, he had deducted that this woman was a tad bit on the dangerous and mysterious side, and those kinds of people usually didn’t give out their names. Nevertheless, Lyon nodded and said simply, “I’m Lyon”

With a frown, he said, “I don’t really know where my father went on his travels. He didn’t tell us when he left. He was gone for two years, and when he returned, we couldn’t really ask him where he had been when we could barely understand the nonsense that was spewing from his mouth. It was all mostly blather. I’m afraid that it is a question I will never be able to answer…” He shrugged, and added, “Not that it matters anyway. It is all in the past. I don’t care what happened to him, so long as it doesn’t happen to me.” He wasn’t quite sure whether he meant this or not. If he had a chance to find out what had driven his father to madness, he would certainly take it, but it wasn’t worth worrying over. His philosophy was to look to the future, and forget the past.

“Sometimes, though, answers can be found in the past…” Lyon muttered. He glanced up at Valynna, and with an apologetic smile, said, “Sorry. I talk to myself sometimes.” He decided to turn the subject around, since this one would lead nowhere.

“What about you?” he asked. “I apologize if it sounds like I’m prying into what is not my concern, but you’ve shared so much already, so…I’m curious. How was your childhood? Living among demons, that must have been interesting. You mentioned revenge upon them. Did they do something to place you against them?”

Valynna - November 21, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
Valynna let out cruel laugh. How would she explain her childhood to someone who had lived what would be anyones ideal childhood, ture it didn't end well, but he had two parents who for the most part loved him, which was more then she could even hope for. She wanted to know more about his father, it was such an odd thing that had happened to him, it made her very curious. But she could tell that Lyon had put that behind him, his only concern was becoming like him.

"My childhood? True it was interesting, i never knew my father, my mother never told me he could have been a human or even a dragon, but for whatever reason weather it be shame for producing a half demon she never told me. If my father was a human, he'd be long dead now." She paused, this wasn't really what he asked for. "Being a half demon among a village of demons, you stick out like a sore thumb, and become the target from pranks all the way up to tourtour. The younger ones played pranks on me, i acutally initiated most of it, thinking i could be just as strong as them but even then i was no match. It continued, many of the elders shunning me, some made me into their "punching bag" or training practice. I never backed down though. Even my mother punished me what humans would considered curel and unbearable. As i grew i tried to become someone they would accept, but no matter what i did, they always saw the half demon side of me, i didn't have the strength, or their blood lust, i was a weakling in their eyes who didn't deserve to live." She paused again, her words were filled with hatred, pure hatred as she recalled the curelity they poured on her.

"Eventually i saw that i didn't have to stay there anymore and left. And as i already said, i'm not going back until i can prove to them that i'm not a weakling that i can be just as powerful as them, to teach them a lesson."

She then looked back into Lyon's face. "I heard about half demons, who look like humans so much they could pass for one. I do look like a human, or more like an elf, but when i left every human village i went to shut me out, guess i still have some sort of demon aura after all. Tell me, how does it feel, hiding herself among the humans? Haven't you ever wondered what power you could posess? I mean, even though i despise those from my village, i can't help but thank them for the little power i was given."

Lyon - November 22, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
Lyon listened to her story; he could hear the bitterness and hatred in her voice as he did so. It sounded like she had quite a grudge against her fellow demons, with extremely good reason, and would explain why she hated the race so much. He didn’t feel pity or sympathy for her, despite the pain that, according to her tale, he was sure she had been forced to endure. Valynna seemed like a strong woman, one that would hate to be pitied.

When she was done, Lyon frowned shaking his head. “You know,” he said, looking at her with raised eyebrows, “I personally don’t see the fairness in that. Your mother hated you because you were a half-demon, punished you for it, but wouldn’t it be her own fault that her child was anything less than a full-blooded demon? After all, she is the one that mated with a different race…have you ever considered that irony?”

He grimaced when she confronted him. She thought he was hiding himself? Perhaps it was true, but the accusation was rather blunt. “It is true that I do not wave my demonic blood around for everyone to see,” he said, looking down. “I have not ever been ashamed of what I am, but neither am I proud of it. I simply feel thankful that I have not inherited my father’s looks. It allows me to live a life that is not despised. I can be the person I want to be. As for the all-glorious power of demons…” He shook his head. “Power is fragile. Get too much of it, and you lose yourself. It begets ambition, makes you desire to do things you never wished to do before. You begin to want to see how far it can go, what you can do with it, how powerful it is. Eventually, you will find yourself a completely changed individual…” Tapping the sword that hung at his side, he said, “This is all the power I need. So long as I am alive, I am satisfied.”

He looked at her, with a ponderous look on his face. Eventually, he looked down, and said to her, “Tell me. When you gain this power, when you are finally able to extract your revenge, what will you do? When you have your mother, and all the others that taunted you, in front of you, what will you do? Kill them? Make them suffer through the same hurt you received?” He paused, and then murmured, barely audible “Revenge only brings closure to the past. It is to the future that our lives progress. We cannot live if we trap ourselves in a world that is long gone. Therefore, it is to the future that I look.”

Picking up the book on demons that had lain untouched on the table for quite a while, he walked to the shelf on which he had found it, and with a strange feeling, he pushed it back into the small opening that had been vacated due to it’s previous departure. Walking back to the table, he sat himself down, giving Valynna a sideways look, wondering what she would say.

Geis looked at the spidery script in consternation. His plan, he admitted had been fairly good up until this point. Learning to harness magical energies would have been possible if he had tutors. He had found none, so he went to the second likeliest source: books. Books would reveal the mysteries that separated him from becoming a mage, would allow him to become a truly phenomenal loremaster and return to his clan in pride.

Unfortunately for the lupine, he was stuck as a wanderer until he learned how to read.

He shook the book, hoping it would spontaneously become clear. It didn't. He huffed, wondering why fur-heads made such elaborate edifices if nothing came of them and quietly put the book away, momentarily defeated. Not one to defeated by mere books he took it out again and tried to read it, but was confronted by a giggling child.

"What?" He snapped, feeling peevish.

"It's upside down, Mr. Furry, sir." She replied, beaming. He was proud that he realized that the long fur symbolized females for fur-heads.

"Ah?"

She hopped towards him, turning the book right side up. "There. That's how you're supposed to read it. See? This word is-"

She cocked an ear- she must have had phenomenal hearing. Her countenance grew darker and darker. "There are people," she muttered under her breath, "making a racket in MY library." Storming off, she made her way to the two half-demons, intent on lecturing the two of them.

The lupine raised an eyebrow, realized that he could not actually read the book without her aid and followed her. He did not know why fur-heads put children in charge of the some of their most prestigious institutions of learning but he did not question their ways- these people, it seemed, were forever addled.

She had thought of that, that it was her mother’s fault she was born the way she was. She once confronted her mother on that subject, trying to force out her father’s heritage in hopes of running to his people for some sort of shelter. But her planed had backfired, like always, she had come to the conclusion that as long as her mother treated her the same as everyone else, she is somewhat redeemed in their eyes.

As for her plans when she finally confronts her demonic nature, well she never really thought of that. She had planned to fight her mother, but would she actually kill her, and everyone else? Was Lyon trying to get her to forget her revenge? It was all she had, her only reason to survive, she couldn’t just let it go.

She watched in silence as Lyon put his book away, letting go of his own issues.

“You don’t have to be so dramatic about it.” She said as he sat back down. “I saw that, you gesture right there, my issues aren’t that easy as putting a book away.” She said a smug look on her face. She didn’t want to think on his words, they were too deep for her to really want to accept it.

Suddenly a little girl hopped towards their table, Valynna tried to get rid of her by giving her one of her evil looks, but she then caught sight of a lupine following her. A bodyguard?

“You are making a racket in MY library!” The girl confronted both her and Lyon. Valynna laughed as she gave a raised eyebrow look to Lyon.

“Who’s library?” Valynna said, with a authoritative tone in her voice, she was not going to be told off by a kid. “The last time I checked this library was open to everyone. What makes this YOUR library? Hmmm?” She then turned to the lupine behind her.

“Are you looking after this kid? If you are, you better keep her well away from people like us.” Valynna said a humorous look in her face and she winked for Lyon. “We can be very dangerous to those that interrupt our conversation.” This last sentence was focused back on the girl, and Valynna began to stretch out her hand, revealing her longer nails that resembled claws, her eyes also began to glow an even brighter red.

Nimrauko - November 23, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
Nimrauko sat the heavy book on the table before him, gently brushing the dust off its leather bound cover. Sitting down on a small stool, he opened the book with a look of intrigue. Slowly turning the delicate pages, Nimrauko began to scan them at a rapid rate.

After a few moments he heard a commotion not far from where he sat. Hoping to avoid contact with them, he rose, gathering the papers on the table to him and closing them in the book. "Another attempt cut short. Perhaps I am not to know." Slowly, he began to move towards the voices.

Avoiding eye contact he walked past slowly. As he rounded the corner one of the papers closed in the book, slid free and drifted to the floor. Not noticing the lost paper, he continued on his way.

I hope this was acceptable for my first post

Lyon - November 23, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
He grimaced as she mentioned his dramatics. “Yeah, I guess not,” he replied, a slightly foolish smile on his face. “I’m not usually like that. In truth, I am not a very deep person…I just think a lot.” The seriousness of their conversation was somewhat destroyed as a little girl came running up to them in a huff, looking a bit like an angry librarian.

“You are making a racket in MY library!” she said angrily. Lyon glanced at Valynna, who seemed amused by the random appearance, and she looked at him with raised eyebrows. Lyon himself could barely keep himself from laughing, and he shook quietly as he suppressed it. He thought that it might be interesting to see how Valynna handled this.

He had to admit, as the female half-demon began to explain things to the girl, that she had a point. The library most certainly was not hers, unless the entire world had gone mad and the city had decided to give a child ownership over a very important building in Lomedor. Valynna winked at him, and he could tell what was coming.

As she addressed a person nearby, Lyon looked over quickly. He hadn’t noticed the lupine that was standing close, and he wondered what such a creature was doing here in the library. Could it even read? It was uncommon for races that were not comfortable around humans to learn their letters, and Lyon would be surprised if this one knew them. For the moment, though, Lyon was more interested in what Valynna was telling to the kid.

The kid, surprisingly enough, didn’t seem very frightened by the abnormalities in Valynna’s appearance. She looked at her with an irritated expression, and said, “Yes, yes, very pretty, missy, but both of you need to be quiet!” She glared at Lyon, and the mercenary decided that he had to take a part in this. Bending down, he whispered something in the girl’s ear, and as he pulled himself back up, the girl’s eyes widened, and with a look of horror at Lyon, ran off quickly without a look back, with shouts of “Noooo! Don’t do that!”

Laughing, he glanced at Valynna, and with a shrug, said, “I guess that kid really doesn’t want her parents to find out that she’s harassing strangers.” At that moment, a man walked past, and a paper fell out of the book he was carrying. Lyon got up, and looking around the corner, he saw the man walking. “Hey, you!” he shouted, wondering if the guy would turn around. “You dropped something!” Not waiting for the guy to come back, he turned back around and sat himself down, and with an amused look at Valynna, said, “Well, I guess it's safe to say that we can't talk about that anymore, with all these people around."

OOC: She was supposed to be one of the helper librarian under an illusion spell. I like eccentric NPC's. Anyways...

IC:

Geis patiently waited through the odd conversation the fur-heads were having, his sharp, bored senses trying to pick out how many other living creatures were in the library. So far he had counted twelve, eight of them fur-heads, three of them little worm creatures that seemed to lie on the books and, of course himself. He was startled out of his reverie as he saw- to his consternation- that his pseudo-teacher was staring at one of the 'racket-makers' in abject horror.

Then she ran away, screaming.

Geis looked back over his shoulder, noting that the child was *still* screaming as it ran away. He frowned. Elders, even ones probably no older than he, should have known better than to frighten younglings. Still... there was something odd about how she 'ran' away. A terror more feigned than anything else. He shrugged, if these strangers were having a joke at his expense he didn't much care. Jokes were odd, nonsensical things that only fur-heads cared about.

He then realized something. His teacher was running away!

"Oh no you don't," he muttered, his nose only just detecting a faint, burning odor. He shrugged, it was probably a bad candle of some sort. He then chased after the small female, wondering just what kind of games fur-head younglings played. He wondered if she *was* a youngling. Firstly she had heard something that even *he*, as a lupine, could not and then she acted like an Alpha for one moment and then like an Omega the next. It was simply inexplicable.

Humans, the lupine decided- and probably not for the last time- were simply addled.

Valynna - November 24, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
Valynna was a bit disappointed that her threats to the kid didn’t sink into her little mind. She leaned back, now upset that this kid wasn’t going to leave them alone. She didn’t really want to hurt her, but they were having a private conversation. Then, Lyon bent down to the girl. Valynna just sat back, watching to see how he would handle this situation since her attempt was obviously not working. She then watched as the girl’s face took on a horrific expression as she then began to scream and run away from the two. A shock expression was on Valynna’s face, amusement quickly replaced it as she turned to Lyon, puzzled on how he was able to send the girl off in such a fit.

The lupine on the other hand, didn’t seem to understand their little game, but whatever the reason he began to chase the little girl. Valynna then began to laugh outright, though trying to cover it up. A thought just passed through her mind, she was just about to share it with Lyon when another person walked past their little group, dropping a piece of paper. Lyon, like any gentlemen, picked it up for the man. Valynna didn’t pay any attention to him, just someone else studying or reading, she was still thinking about the scene playing in her mind.

“Agreed.” Valynna said calming herself down. “But you know what you just did? That little girl is running though the library with a Lupine on her trail. Now you and I both know the truck behind this, but imagine what others are going to think when they see those two running by.” Valynna finally said, followed shortly by another fit of laughter. It was something she would like to see, the expressions on the everyone’s faces.

“So I guess our deep meaningful conversation is at an end.” She gave a sigh, and relaxed in the chair. “So what do you want to talk about now? Or is this my cue to leave?” A teasing smile on her lips. She didn’t really want to leave, it’s been a while since she had such a conversation before with anyone, not to mention she’s been a bit lonely though she would never admit to it.

Nimrauko - November 24, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
Nimrauko stopped walking, turning fluidly on his heel to face the voice.
"Thank you! I didn't notice it" Nimrauko made his way to the stray paper, hoping they hadnt looked at it. Bending down to reach it, he made eye contact with the fellow who called to him. A half demon........hmmm.......if I can sense his demon blood the same should be said about his ability to sense mine....... Cracking his book open he took the stray paper and closed it tightly within. Straightening up, he gave a brief glance to the two standing near him, and turned to walk away. "namaarie n'ner rauko" Nimrauko said softly to the half demon, as he walked away.

----------ooc-----------
namaarie n'ner rauko means "Farewell less demon" which is closest I could remember for Half demon.

Lyon - November 24, 2007 05:40 AM (GMT)
As he sat back down, Valynna agreed to his earlier suggestion that they should stop the conversation they had been having. It wasn't wise to continue it, seeing as how they both wanted to hide what they had been talking about, and the library had suddenly become very busy, with eavesdropping strangers passing by left and right. She seemed to have already stoped thinking about it, and was contemplating something that amused her greatly. As she mentioned it out loud, Lyon couldn't help but share in her laughter.

"A lupine chasing a little girl..." he said, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Yeah, I can think of a few things that ignorant passerby would think." It would be a very suspicious sight to any that passed, and Lyon couldn't help but wonder where this would lead. If he wasn't careful, the furry humanoid wolf might find himself face-to-face with the city guard. It was most certainly a joke at the lupine's expense, but Lyon didn't feel like getting up to warn him. He could find out for himself.

Lyon shook his head as Valynna suggested the she could leave. "There's no reason as to why we can't talk for a while," he said, shrugging. "I haven't been able to find any work, so my time isn't all that precious. I've got plenty of time to spare. Actually, I've been rather bored lately...so far, us talking has provided an excellent way to pass the time."

At that moment, the man that Lyon had called out to earlier, the one that had dropped that piece of paper, came back around the corner. He uttered a word of thanks, and bent down to pick of the stray sheet. As he straightened back up, he made eye-contact with Lyon, and with a glance at the two of them, said something in a different language. Lyon didn't recognize what dialect it was in, but he recognized the last word, rauko. It meant demon.

Lyon quickly stood up, his body tensed. "Have you been eavesdropping on us!?" he demanded to know.

Nimrauko - November 24, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
Nimrauko turned to face him again, smiling faintly.
"No no. Eavesdropping is such a tawdry thing to do. I know who you are......at least at your core. It speaks to me. But fear not, if it be secret, it shall remain such" The light danced on his eyes, as he peered intently into the half demons. He truly is a half demon......wonder what his history is........

Nimrauko made a small gesture, and spoke again.
"Me and you are of the same kind.........only you are half and I be full......if I offended please, accept my humblest apologies."

Nimrauko began to walk towards the half demon, hoping to gain more knowledge and perhaps gain an acquaintance.

Valynna - November 24, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
(OOC: try to remember the posting order)
IC:
Valynna felt a warm feeling spread through her body, it was nice to know that her company was welcoming. It was nice to finally make a firm connection with someone, she didn’t have many and after seeing others with large circle of allies it was nice to know there was someone she could call if she needed some help.

“Sorry I don’t have a job for you, but I wouldn’t have the gold to pay with either, maybe I should join you on your next job? Earn some money for once.”

The man who had dropped the paper seemed to have heard Lyon and returned to retrieve it. There was something about this guy though that made her hair on the back of her neck stick up. It wasn’t until he bent down and say a phrase every so softly that only the two of them could hear, did she finally realize what he was.

Lyon was fist to stand and confront the man, Valynna wasn’t more then a second behind him. She quickly jumped around the table to stand off to the side of the stranger, ready to block his escape. She understood what he said and it made her blood boil, whatever act this demon was putting on it wasn’t fooling Valynna.

“Apologies? Don’t make me laugh, if you really are a full demon you wouldn’t apologize for offending us.” Valynna didn’t know why he was interested in them, but then again two half-demons talking would perhaps attract a full demon if he could sense things like that. “I don’t know what you want, but by your words earlier I can only take it one way.” Valynna was ready to block him if he tried to run.

DeiExMachinis - November 24, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
OOC: Don't want to leave, but I don't know how to continue without my presence becoming just... odd. xD Exit lupine!

IC:

"Eeek!" The small child-thing squeaked as Geis caught it in one hand. She looked different... her eyes were changing color. Before Geis could even think of reacting, an immense clawed hand had him pinned to the wall.

Shapechanger, the lupine thought, panicking. He didn't know how much energy it took, but partial transformations were never supposed to be simple. And here she was, doing one with ease. He didn't even understand how her shoulder could support an appendage more massive than she was.

And, scariest of all, he hadn't heard a thing. Not the crackle of magic, not the boom of him hitting the ceiling. It was as if she controlled sound itself.

"Don't get carried away now," she admonished. "Librarians are allowed to get carried away, they make up the rules. You're not a librarian. Try and remember that."

"Can you..." he licked his lips, "control sound?"

"Oooooo." She squealed. "Very good... very good indeed. Yes, you do deserve to learn a few words."

And carrying the lupine in that disproportionately large arm, she moved further and further into the library.

Nimrauko - November 26, 2007 04:42 AM (GMT)
Nimrauko eyed the girl suspiciously.
Odd girl......jumping to conclusions so quickly
Straightening, he looked them both over, and sighed.
"I seek out no battle my lady. I am not your average demon......"
Nimrauko smiled faintly and began to turn to leave, but stopped midway. "I thank you for telling me about my paper."
