Title: The Descent

Ashe Sparrow - October 1, 2007 02:35 AM (GMT)
Moonlight sang to the clear, shining late night waters in the collective pool, as did the stars. Trees hummed their midnight lullabies to one another and to the animals, who in response whispered legends and myths to one another in old languages, some only the Wind itself could possibly understand. The light Wind itself was not listening and instead carried the words of the far off melody of the sea to the ears of all who cared to listen while it wove its own eerily beautiful song into the words. The ears it happened to reach were Ashe’s.

So long had it been since she was a young child, running wild in the forests and the Falls. This was her familiar ground, her sanctuary, her playground of sorts. To her parents, it was no surprise her personality was rough and careless; she had been allowed to run free as a child into the forests she loved so much. She had even at one point found herself almost forgetting her own parents. Her steps had become so eerily quiet that even to her father’s elven ears, she couldn’t be heard when she stood behind him. So as she used to when she was young, she made her way silently to the bottom of the falls.

The descent was slow, but that was how she liked it. She found that if she took her time, the moon would sing more and reveal secrets of old as did the stars. When descending in a place like this, she felt it was better to go slow and listen to everything the world had to say and offer. After a while, she found a small fall and settled behind it on a small terrace in the rock.

The mist from the falling waters drifted up and caused a soft moonbow to appear in the mist in the light of the full moon. It was a lovely sight, one she always cherished by herself. It’s been too long… These falls have been my home for years. It strikes me as odd that here one can hear the song of the forest, moon, and stars louder here then anywhere else. Perhaps it’s because of the presence of the elves near by. Being here always settled her mood and she seemed at ease with herself and with the people around her after these rare trips to the falls, but only for a short while. But while she was here, her mood was serene.
