Title: A Hesitant Adventure
Description: (site noob with slow posting schedule)

Prisca Brandybuck - September 15, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
((OOC: You may not want to reply in this topic, only because I have a slow posting schedule- I do not have the time and means to post as quickly as I know everyone else does, and I apoligize. I'm a newbie on this site, and this thred is pretty much getting my character started on their Big Bad Adventure.))

Prisca Brandybuck, young hobbit, had decided to finally leave home. Her family did not quite think the way she did, and she could not stand the fights any longer. With a huff, Prisca announced that life as an 'Ordinary Hobbit' was too boring, packed her things, and left the next morning.

She had arrived at Lake Aelin, and paused under a huge tree, sitting against its trunk, looking around. Prisca sighed and ate half a sandwich, then stood up and started walking again. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted something in the water- what in the Shire was that?! Prisca, unable to resist her curiosity, dropped her bag and walked toward the edge. Slowly she reached out; never had she seen such an animal!

"Uh-oh!" she yelled suddenly, feeling her left foot sink into the mud. She planted her right foot behind her, and tried to pull her foot out, but failed. Frantically, Prisca looked around. "Help!" she cried, her voice sounding feeble to her. Hurridly, frightened, Prisca went back to trying to get her foot un-stuck, but to no avail. After a few minutes, Prisca sat down in the mud, cursing herself. She would just have to wait until somebody came along. "So embarrassing..." she muttered, hoping it would be no one she knew, or at least someone kind.

Valmyr Kilsek - September 27, 2007 12:59 PM (GMT)
Valmyr's ears propped up as he heard the faint cry for help coming from the lake. He started moving towards it at a slower pace in hopes that the one in trouble would be out of it by the time he got there. After twenty minutes he made it to the lake only to hear another cry for help coming from right around the bushes. He approached the little Humanoid and stopped just short of where she got stuck. "How did this problem occur Hobbit?"

Prisca Brandybuck - September 30, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
Prisca looked sourly up at him, a defeated look on her face. "I was just walking." she said, sighing, wrapping her fingers around her ankle, trying to tug her foot out again. She tried to wiggle her toes, too, but this mud was too thick for her little hobbit limbs. She put her hands firmly behind her and tried to pull herself up- and once again, nothing happened.

"As you can see," she said sadly. "I'm quite stuck. I tried digging around it too, but it just slid back in. Could you help a halfling up, sire?"

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
"Very well, I'll help you. I've wanted to test this spell anyway." He turned around facing a fresh burial mound and began chanting. At the end of the chant he stood up shouting "COME TO ME USSTA ROTHE!!!" A skeleton began clawing its way out of the nearby mound, its bones clean and white with no traces of flesh or organs to be found. The creature quickly made its way out of the ground and towards the hobbit and its master. The drow began speaking in a toung that the halfling couldn't understand and as the words were finished the skeleton went over and pried the little halfling out of the mud with little effort then walked back to his grave to sleep once more. "That went better than i thought it would. Thank you for being my guinea pig on that spell though I hope it didnt scare you too much" He let out a small laugh and sat down under a tall oak, trying to get out of the sun before he was burned.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
As Prisca watched the skeleton come closer and closer, she shook with fear. And when it touched her... shudder. Prisca almost bit her tounge to keep from shaking so hard, but then she gave up, bringing her knees to her chest, shivering with fright for a few minutes.

"N -no." she stuttered, her word a complete lie. When she determined that she was shaking less than before, Prisca sat normally (too afraid to stand up) and turned so she was facing Valmyr. "T -thank you." she said, wondering if her face was as pale as she thought it was. "R -really. So k- kind." She nodded and managed a smile to her new friend. "A- anything I can d- do for y-you?" Grudgingly (since she was still shaking), Prisca dragged her backpack in front of her.

"I don't h-have m-much." she continued to stutter, clenching her teeth for a moment to try to get herself to stop. "But I'm sure I have som-something."

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
"Now now little one, take as long as you need for this experience to sink in. Ah i remember my first skeleton scare, just be glad you didn't have a shadow beast pick you up... o the darkness is so uninviting from them, it feels like your about to die. just lay down and rest, you've earned it." He went back to resting his head against the tree and closed his eyes trying to catch up on his sleep.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
Without replying, Prisca nodded (quite fitfully), and laid her head down on her knees, rocking back and forth until she fell onto her back with a soft thump. She laid there and breathed for a while, closing her eyes and waiting for the world to stop spinning, shaking, and doing whatever other harmful things it wanted to do to her.

She had already decided to leave home, this young hobbit, but how much adventure could she really take? Was it really all too much excitement, as her father had scolded her the night before? Nonsense. Other races traveled. All the time. This was not unusual, so why shouldn't a hobbit do the same?

Withought realizing it, Prisca had begun to hum softly, just loud enough for someone close by to hear. It was an old hobbit lullaby, slow and soothing to most creatures that heard it, especially with this young hobbit's talented voice.

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
He smiled for a moment, remembering the song and then frowned remembering where he had heard it. "I know your scared little one, but please stop that humming, its giving me a headache." He sounded quite annoyed and his expression changed from happy to downright ticked off. "It reminds me too much of a bad past"

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
Abruptly Prisca stopped, the song stuck in her throat. She sat up quickly and rubbed her neck briefly to get rid of the feeling. "Sorry." she muttered, feeling unrealisticly guilty.

It's only a lullaby, she thought. how could it have brought so much pa- Prisca remembered with a start that many creatures could read other's minds. However, it was hard not to stop thinking about it. Hobbits, though hesitant about adventures, are curious creatures. Prisca forced herself to go back to the debt she now owed Valmyr.

"Right." she said, standing up, her height not changing much from when she was sitting down. "So." She shifted her weight. "Um. There's a debt to be paid." Again she shifted her weight, unsure of what to say, and how formal to say it. "To what do I owe you?" She plastered a small, nervous smile on her face.

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
"I know not of this debt, as far as i am concerned i saved your life and scared the hell out of you as well, i dont think there is a thing to be owed" He went back to resting up against the tree an unhappy look on his face and unhappy thoughts in his head. "If i ever need help ill be sure to ask you though if your still set on paying a meaningless debt."

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
"Meaningless?" Prisca repeated, feeling a tad offended, not to mention taken aback by the attitude. She shook her head. "Oh, no, see, I do own you, I think. Had you not come along, I most certaintly would have been stuck in that miserable mud pit. Eventually a kin of me would have come along, and do you know where that would have gotten me?"

Prisca rolled her eyes up to the sky, feeling her heart sinking a bit more. "Ridicule. Punishment. Punishment would have been enough, but a hobbit going off to adventure across lands gets 'im ridicule enough. But a hobbit who couldn't even get ten miles 'way from the Shire?" Prisca shook her head and plopped down on her hobbit rump. "Well."

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
"well im sorry but those are your problems not mine, though at least it wasnt one of them, i couldnt think of a torture worse than that" A small smile came across his face as another memory appeared in his head, followed by a small unnoticable tear going down his cheek. "So what services could you provide to fulfill your 'debt' to me?"

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
Prisca shrugged from where she sat, resisting the urge to get up and plop down next to her new 'friend.' If he was willing to call himself her first friend out of the Shire. He didn't exactly seem like the 'plop-down-next-to-and-talk-to' type.

She noticed the tear but didn't say anything, for fear that creepy smile would show on his face agian, and instead sat in silence for a moment or so. "Well, I don't know." she said. "Anything I can do for you?" And under her breath she muttered, "I know how other people tihnk of 'stupid' hobbits..."

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
"Never thought much of any race, i just recently got out of the caves where my people live, sun still hurts just being in it. But why would people say such horrid things about a hobbit? you seem intelligent enough and your the first hobbit iv ever met." He pulled his cape over him a little more to keep the sun off of his body, his face already feeling burnt but not visibly changed from the pale blue color of the rest of his skin.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
Prisca sighed grudgingly, sadly. "A lot of races think we're below them." she said. "You know, smaller height, smaller brian. And inside our own living places, any hobbit who goes against the traditional ways is... well... made fun of." Prisca tried to shrug it off.

"It doesn't make any sense, that, or at least, it doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, moons ago, Frodo and Sam and Pip and Merri went off and saved all of Middle Earth... and when they got back home, things were exactly the same. They got unfriendly looks because they went out of the Shire, even though they saved it. I mean, after a while it got better, when they settled down with their families, and Frodo went off an' all, but still..."

"...and now that I'm off and 'abandoning' the Shire, I'm gona be ridiculed either way when I come back. I'd rather go off and do something worthwhile with my life, instead of peeling longbottom root, or something. So really, I'm willing to do anything for you."

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
"Well what is your profession? I could always use some nightly entertainment or a hot meal, i have all the supplies if your willing to aid." He sat up, noticing the sun starting to set and began gathering little scraps of tinder and some slightly bigger pieces of wood, placing them together in neat seperate piles. "Feel free to aid in any way you wish, as my Gabe used to say 'leave no one left out'"

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
Gabe? Prisca wondered.

"Well, I'm a choralist." she said. "You know, a singer." She bowed her head in embarassment, remembering that Vlamyr had silenced her humming. "Well, I'd like to think I'm good. I also studied witchcraft a bit... I can manage a pony, though I don't see how that would help you..." She looked up hopefully. "I can cook..."

Inside, Prisca sighed. Might as well go back home, humble hobbit. There's nothing you can do to help the outside world. Singing only soothes babies, no matter how good you think you are.

Saddened, the young hobbit plucked a few blades of glass and started tying them, in a fashion she had learned when she was younger, a way to make a circle of grass that you could wear around your head.

Valmyr Kilsek - October 28, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
"Well im sure your a better cook than i am, last thing i tried to make almost cost me my tower." He had finished gathering enough sticks and logs to start a fire and keep it burning through the night and then some. Stopping to set them up in a leantu fashion so they would light and catch bigger things faster. "So, know any songs i could understand? I'm an elemental scientist, i study the properties of many elements and try to create new spells"

Angel_of_Darkness - October 28, 2007 09:19 PM (GMT)
((I hope it's okay that I posted here. I'm a bit of a noob too.))

Cali groaned slightly. She was once again standing in front of a tree she had placed a large white stone in front of some time ago. If there was anything she felt at the moment, it would definitely be stupid.
"I can't believe I went in a circle again..." Cali muttered. "I have no sense of direction at all! It's not fair!"
Cali immediately silenced herself when she realized that she had been too loud. She could handle herself perfectly fine if one or two robbers or highwaymen showed up, but if any more than three showed up she would be in trouble.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 28, 2007 09:30 PM (GMT)
((it's okay if you don't mind the horrible, horrible, lack-of-structure-and-consistancy schedule this topic has! see my siggy))

Prisca laughed a little, thinking of how much she hadhad to cook for her family. Well, she thought with a bit of defiance. They'll just have to manage without me! "I can cook just about anything." she said proudly. "Well, not everything. But I can find something to eat everywhere. Well..."

Prisca looked down at herself and then did the same to Vlamyr. "Things I can eat, at least. I don't know what your race eats..."

Then her head perked up, her hobbit ears hearing another being's voice. "Hello?" she called out instantly. "Who's there?"

Angel_of_Darkness - October 28, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
Cali mentally scolded herself for being so loud. The voice sounded like a female's, but she didn't want to take any chances considering that it could be a creature mimicking the voice. She quickly shifted into the form of a raven, which was one of her favorite birds, and flew into a nearby tree. Let's see if the one that heard me decides to come out and play... she thought as she kept her beady eyes on the lookout.

Valmyr Kilsek - October 29, 2007 04:48 AM (GMT)
After getting the fire started he turned to the hobbit. "You hear something?" He looked up into the trees and saw a raven then realized what was going on. "HEY CALI, COME ON DOWN HERE. I COULD USE SOME FIRESIDE ENTERTAINMENT!" He smiled knowing he had caught is friend off guard and was ready to laugh should the bird become surprised and almost fall out of the tree.

Angel_of_Darkness - October 29, 2007 05:00 AM (GMT)
Cali let out a loud screech and jumped from the sound of the familiar voice, as well as what the person had said. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and tried to grab the branch to steady herself, but she had tried using her wings instead of her talons and she fell from the tree. She hit the ground with a loud thud, squawking as she did so.

Cali got up from the ground, still in her raven form, and shook off the dizziness. She looked up at the Drow that had scared her out of her feathers and glared at him. She tried shouting "YOU STUPID DROW!!!! HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?!?! YOU'RE SUCH A BUTTHEAD!!!! I HATE YOU!!!!" but all that came out was loud crowing.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 29, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
A bit frightened, Prisca couldn't help the fact that the sides of her mouth were violently twitching into a grin. She let herself smile and laugh at the silly bird. "You're friends with a bird?" she then asked a minute or so later, the idae of shapeshifters slowly making its way into her head.

Angel_of_Darkness - October 29, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
Cali tilted her head to the side as she looked at the Hobbit, but then she remembered that she was still in her raven form. With next to no effort at all, Cali turned back into her "human" form. Her pale skin made her short coal black hair darker than it really was, and her crimson eyes gleamed in the bright sunlight. Her revealing outfit showed off what little curves she had, a flat stomach, and legs that had dark tribal-like tattoos along the sides.
"Hi, miss," Cali said to the Hobbit. She then turned to Valmyr with a nasty glare. "Ssussun pholor dos, Valmyr Kilsek!"

Valmyr Kilsek - October 29, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
He let out a nasty growl "P'luin dos, elg'caress. Why so mad with me?" He sat down and started the to light the tinder in front of him. It went up quickly and became a roaring fire quickly warming those withing a good distance. "Come join us Cali, im sure your services would be welcome as well as your company"

Prisca Brandybuck - October 29, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
"Hi." Prisca said a bit nervoulsy, but still friendly. "I'm Prisca." She inched towards the fire, her knees still up to her chest, but her arms stretched out as she warmed her palms. She brushed a peice of long curly brown hair behind her pointed ear, starting to feel a bit homesick.

She turned so her head was up towards Vlamyr and Cali. "What language were you speaking?" she asked curiously.

Angel_of_Darkness - October 29, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
"It's nice to meet you, Prisca," Cali said with a smile. "And we were speaking Drow." She glanced at Valmyr for a brief moment and then quickly looked away, hoping that he wouldn't notice, but she knew better than that. Cali wouldn't have been surprised if he had predicted her to do that.
"Can I sit with you?" Cali asked Prisca. She looked at Valmyr. "If it's okay with that naut ne'kalsa jaluk."

Prisca Brandybuck - October 29, 2007 07:41 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, sure." Prisca said, shrugging. "You two are obviously friends." she smiled at the newcomer (although was 'newcomer' the right word when it was Prisca who had just left her home?). "If anyone's hungry I can go catch and make some mutton." she tried not to beam to widely. "I make delecious mutton. Or if you want, I could make something else. I don't know what ...drows? eat."

Prisca hoped she had pronounced the name right; the only other creatures she had heard of were humans, elves, and drarves, after all.

Valmyr Kilsek - October 29, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, friends..." He leaned back and rested on the log he had pulled up. "Mutton is fine" He closed his eyes and started to drift off. "I'm not going to argue with you anymore Cali, we get no where with it" He started falling asleep and lost sight of what was going on around him

Angel_of_Darkness - October 29, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
"Whatever..." Cali muttered. She sat a distance away from Valmyr and began thinking. She hadn't meant to make him upset at her, and it made her feel somewhat unhappy knowing that he was upset with her. The two may not act like it at times, but they are good friends. Well, that's what Cali would like to think. She didn't know if Valmyr felt the same about their friendship and she wasn't about to ask him, heaven forbid that that made their friendship worse. If you could even call their relationship a friendship.]

Cali stole another glance at Valmyr, silently wondering what he was thinking, and then she looked at Prisca, wondering the same thing. For a moment she thought of helping the Hobbit cook dinner, but the last time she tried to cook something... Well, let's just say that she avoided cooking unless it was absolutely necessary.

Prisca Brandybuck - October 29, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
Prisca smiled at Cali then took a pot out of her backpack, placing it next to the fire. "I'll be off, then." she said, standing up and brushing the dirt off her butt. "Be back soon, I 'spose."

She allowed herself to wander off into the cluster of trees that was nearby, listening closely for scratches against wood and scurrying sounds. Careful not to breath too heavily or shiver, Prisca watched carefully as she saw a rabbit look over its shoulder at her.

"Hello, friend." she breathed. The rabbit twitched, its ears laid back against its body. "I promise I'll make it quick." Curious, the poor rabbit took two hops towards Prisca, and then the hobbit laid her right hand on the rabbit's head. Quickly, she grabbed the animal's ear with her other hand, and then moved her right hand to the animal's back, in between its shoulderblades. She squeezed.

The animal died quickly, and without pain. Satisfied, Prisca slung the animal over her left shoulder, and Prisca grinned. "So there." she said to herself defiantly, thinking of everyone at the Shire who said she couldn't live on her own.

Out of the corner of her eye, Prisca spotted another rabbit. Quickly she laid the dead one down on the ground and went darting after the other one, which was trying to wiggle into a too-small hole. Prisca dived, and landed on her stomach, catching the bunny by its back legs. "Damn." she muttered, dragging the rabbit out. "Sorry." With a quick twist of its neck Prisca had done the deed, and found the other rabbit where she had left it.

She hefted the two finds up to her eye level and surveyed them by the last ray of sunlight. "Sorry." she apoligized to the carcasses. "But a hobbit's gotta eat, you know."

Valmyr Kilsek - November 10, 2007 05:53 AM (GMT)
He sighed at hearing the sound of the rabbits last squealing. "Poor little creatures. Cali... im sorry for snapping at you. Jhal, dos phuul naut ulu tlu nindel inthulu jala mzild." He grunted and turned his attention back to the slowly fading fire, putting more wood on it and watching as its fire grew double its size in instants.

Angel_of_Darkness - November 11, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
Cali frowned as she looked down at her feet. "Usstan uil sorry, Valmyr... Usstan should naut inbal tlus phor emotional..."
Cali never really noticed when she was being overemotional; the only ones that did were the people around her. After she finds out how emotional she had been, she gets embarrassed and unusually shy, kind of like how she was feeling now.

Prisca Brandybuck - November 28, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
As Prisca slung both the rabbits over her shoulders, she picked up her bag and turned around. "Uh oh." she promptly said. There was a pause. "Oh, come on, I can't be lost." she muttered angerily. "I'm a hobbit! Mighty good sense of direction." she bucked up and started walking, then went back to trace her steps.

"Okay..." Prisca said softly, closing her eyes. Standing perfectly still, she tried to sense the things around her. Five or so minutes later, a bug scurried across her bare feet, and the young hobbit opened her eyes. Straight through the trees, she could see the camp.

Nodding to herself, Prisca allowed herself a wide smile and trudged back towards camp, and was grinning when she came to it.

"Well, here we are!" she said happily, dumping the two rabbits on the ground. "Dinner for three. Two wonderfully plump rabbits..." Prisca trailed off and made a hungry sound, still grinning.

Valmyr Kilsek - November 30, 2007 06:36 AM (GMT)
Valmyr smiled "Well this fire is hot enough to burn through a tough rainstorm so the food should be ready in short time, though i have no idea how to cook rabbit properly" He went back towards the pile of wood and starting finding ways to break the logs into smaller sections that were more managable for a smaller dark elf like himself. "Cali, think you can transform into something with long sharp claws to help me cut these larger peices of wood?"

Angel_of_Darkness - November 30, 2007 06:43 AM (GMT)
"I'm sure I can manage something," Cali said to him.

Cali closed her eyes and concentrated. Her human form slowly changed into that of a dragon. Her dragon form wasn't overly large, but it wasn't small either. She opened her eyes, bared her claws, and began slicing the wood.

Not too much time later, Cali had finished slicing the wood into smaller pieces and looked down at Valmyr, silently asking him if the wood was cut well enough.

Valmyr Kilsek - November 30, 2007 06:46 AM (GMT)
"Thank you Cali. That should do for now, please change back to human, im sure some fire dancing would be much appreciated if your willing to do so my dear" He smiled sweetly at Cali in hopes she would dance to entertain at least Valmyr if not for Prisca as well. "You know i do so love your dances very much"

Angel_of_Darkness - November 30, 2007 07:07 AM (GMT)
Cali transformed back into her human form and smiled. "As you wish," she spoke gently.

Cali went over by the fire and stretched her arms and legs, cracking their stiff joints. She took a deep breath and slowly let it out. Cali slowly began to sway her hips and move her arms in time with the music she heard in her mind. Her movements slowly sped up and then she pulled out a piece of blue cloth. Cali held it in both hands and twirled it until the cloth pulled her hands together. She swayed back and forth, then swiftly unrolled the cloth and twirled in a circle as she moved around the fire.

Prisca Brandybuck - November 30, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
Just as she was about to pass out bits of rabbit on thin peices of wood ("plates"), Prisca stopped, staring in amazement at Cali. She held her breath in astonishment as she watched the beautiful movements, so foreign and yet so wonderful to her.

Slowly Prisca's arm moved to hand Vlamyr's "plate" to him, and she set the other two in front of her, still watching Cali, unable to comment.
