The smell of the forge was not the only smell in the endless tunnels and caverns of the deep undergound mines belonging to the Dwarves of the Ered Annon Mountains. The smell of the forge was strong, however - stronger than the smell of almost everything else in the mines. The smell of the forge was not just one smell, though. There was the smell of the ash and the smell of the suphur; there was the smell of the heated metal; there was the smell of the sweat that poured from the Dwarves working in the thick of that smell and the smell of everything else they were doing. There was the smell of work. That was the smell of the forge.

But this was not the only smell, as stated. This was but one smell amongst many. There was the smell of the moisture in the mines, the smell of the Dwarves that had not bathed and so had a foul smell about them, there was the smell of the dust and the smell of the musty cobwebs that had another strong smell, a smell of spidersap and a smell produced by spiders that could not smell what they produced. Had they been able to smell the spidersap, they might have thought twice before producing something that could smell so foul and smell so much. There was the smell of the cold air that brought smell after smell after smell from the surface world, all carried by the wind and combined into one smell that the Dwarves could smell all too well. But the Dwarves were used to the smell - very used to the smell, in fact - and so the smell did not bother them. And they all loved the smell of the forge.

Relfgar was amongst those Dwarves that could smell everything around them, and he enjoyed every smell that came his way just as every other Dwarf enjoyed every smell that came their way. He was working hard to produce a great multitude of gems, but he had also taken up a great amount of mithril. Unfortunately, this latest batch had the smell of spidersap, a smell he did not like to smell. He would much rather smell the smell of the forge. The other Dwarves did not like the smell, either, but the smell could not be helped and the Dwarves - including Relfgar - would just have to deal with the smell and smell the spidersap until the smell could be removed with the spidersap itself. The smell was foul, but it was a smell that could be tolerated - for now, at least. But now Relfgar was no longer near the smell of the spidersap, nor could he smell the smell of the forge from where he worked. He was oblivious to every smell that the Dwarves could smell in the mines, for he was hard at work harvesting gems that did not smell. Fortunately, the few that did smell of spidersap could be wiped clean, and the smell would be gone with the ridding of the spidersap. And so Relfgar continued working, oblivious of each smell around him just as most of the other Dwarves were oblivious of every smell around them.

Another fantastic cart filled with fantastic gems was led away alongside a fantastic cart filled with fantastic pieces of harvested mithril just a short distance from where the fantastic fantastic Dwarven smithy called Relfgar Morllek now stood mining even more fantastic gems and fantastic chunks of mithril. Using a fantastic pick of fantastic mithril, Relfgar dug in heavily to the fantastic wall containing the fantastic vein of fantastic mithril and saw that a few fantastic gems had fallen along with the fantastic bits of mithril. He loaded up a fantastic cart with fantastic gems and fantastic chunks of mithril and wheeled them over to the fantastic forge that would have made most humans gape in awe at how fantastic the vast and obviously expertly crafted the fantastic forge was. He began setting to his fantastic work at once, softening the fantastic chunks of mithril and heating the fantastic chunks of mithril until the fantastic chunks of mithril were ready to be shaped into fantastic pieces of armor, fantastic weapons, fantastic tools, fantastic supplies like fantastic mithril nails and such, and other fantastic things made of the fantastic metal harvested from this fantastic mine in which all these fantastic Dwarves did all of their fantastic work.

Relfgar spent a fantastic day working the fantastic forge, harvesting fantastic gems and fantastic chunks of mithril from the fantastic veins in the fantastic walls of the fantastic Dwarven mines, and going back to the fantastic forge to forge more fantastic items from the fantastic gems and the fantastic pieces of the fantastic metal called mithril. Finally, though, his fantastic work was done for the day and he retired to a fantastic bath - the first in some time, actually, as he'd spent days doing his fantastic work in the fantastic mines - and then to his fantastic bedroll. He quickly fell asleep, dreaming of more fantastic work on the fantastic walls of the fantastic Dwarven mines...
