Title: Two things
Annihilate - June 5, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Uh, first thing I was thinking of was immunities. We could have certain things like... immunity to heat, cold, electricity, etc. in varrying degrees for people to purchase. Example.
Minor Immunity to Heat/Fire- 25% (100 gold)
Average Immunity to Heat/Fire- 50% (150 gold)
Greater Immunity to Heat/Fire- 75% (200 gold)
Full Immunity to Heat/Fire- 100% (250 gold)
And you would have to have each of the previous levels before you could have complete immunity. And, things like these could be ARP status only. So, it would encourage people to RP more, to grow as writers, and to apply for that status for greater advantages.
The second thing was talismans. You could set up a second shop for fighters so that they could buy talismans with spells written on them to use during fights. I was thinking of a few ways they could be used too.
These would be written on stiff paper in runic text. You could set them so that you'd have to have the combat casting feat to use any of them. Since they would be stiff you could make it so you would not be required to have the throw fighter ability to use them, but it would make them more accurate if you did decided to throwthe talisman. You wouldn't have to make one for each spell, and a fighter could be restricted to carrying "X" many just like this or her regular spells.
You could have healing, damaging, and status alteration talismans, and then you could have them in ranged and touch categories.
I dunno. This was just a thought.

The Immunity thing would be far more fair if you were only allowed to purchase one thing to be imune against, and even then maybe making it the opposite of said characters element

I do like the ideas of immunities, but think that a character should not be able to become completely immune (which, of course, contradicts giving characters 'immunities'; perhaps 'resistances' is a better term). Up to 50% or 75% resistance would be neat. What might also be interesting, and to even things up between fighters and wizards, would be to give different types of weapon damage resistance as well; e.i, slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, etc., that comes about through a body's toughness, or whatever.

There is only one thing I have seen on the site that offers total immunity to an element is in Level Six of Loths PrC which has this:
| QUOTE |
| At this point in your training you have become so close to the holy element that offensive holy magic will no longer have an effect if it is ever used against you. |
That is about as close as it gets

hrmmm I'd say that percentages are a wee bit hard to follow in a place governed by text-based combat. I think a 25% in the hands of one who dislikes defeat is just as valuable as someone with 100% realistically speaking. ARPer though a respected status may only speak of relatively good writers but not necessarily ideal players.
I like the talisman idea but I'd say there should be a limit...
Currently if it would enlighten everyone else though, the staff members have been working on several projects in the future that will give fighters a bigger boost than they can imagine :w00t:

To me, it doesn't seem reasonable to have immunities to things like fire without some kind of magic. Which makes this not useful to fighters, and then mages already have the spells that do these things. In fact, fighters can still use some of the resistance spells if they have them in their 5.
The talismans also seem to defeat the purpose of fighters not having magic. They can already use other magic-infused items such as rings and swords and whatnot, but they won't be getting something more than that. Especially not something that only fighters can buy.
