Title: Nostalgia
Description: Character Developing Thread. Completed!
Dispater - May 11, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
Dispater was assigned to eliminate a very powerful and menacing force located into one of the Infinite Layers of the Abyss, the mission seemed to be a routine at first, he has visited the Layers many times before, and all of the assigned tasks were taken to fulfillment. The said Layer he had to visit this time was the infamous Demonweb Pits, home of the most wicked spider-like creatures, spider hybrids as well as those who worship them. But the said task was nothing more and nothing less than a trap, the concordant killers have made quite a name across all the realms of existence and a force was formed to capture and eliminate them, or so Dispater thought.
And finally, the time for Dispater to fail has come! Ambushed and overpowered by the spider demons, he fought until exhaustion, and eventually he was deadly wounded, his immunity system broke before the repeated venomous attacks from the creatures, yet he was not left to die, no, that would have been something too gentle for him to endure.
They treated him like an insect and left him hanging above the corrupted land, wrapped into a white cocoon of extremely durable spider silk, the very womb of his rebirth. They tortured him and made him endure an unearthly pain, his dusky feathery wings were just ripped off his back and fed to the lesser demons. All sorts of venoms were infused into his blood stream through mundane and occultist ways, the deadly mixture started to feed off his two essences, adding a third one, it was more powerful and able to control his other two: the celestial and the fiendish essences. He took a brand new appearance which looked more like a fusion between his former self and the human form he usually had, and with that he lost the ability to change his appearance.
His flesh was marked, the taint of the Demonweb Pits managed to consume Dispater in all aspects, only one thing remained partially unbroken, and that was his mind.
But the time has come for Dispater to be sent back to Arda, by the very mindless minions which lurked the realm. The place was nowhere else than Ungol Felas, the Spider Caves, home of all sort of spiders, small and huge alike. A portal has been opened within the very core of the cave, and a massive, immobile figure was spitted out. The figure seemed to belong to a humanoid but one could not tell exactly who or what it was, since it was wrapped around in a coffin of ghost white spider-silk. It was like a mummy, having the arms crossed over the chest.
After a few seconds the portal was closed, leaving the cocoon in the cave, to be surrounded by spiders. It was studied for awhile, and as if they were possessed all of a sudden, a pair of giant spiders lifted it up and started to carry it outside. It was a grotesque sight to behold.
The giant spiders lowered the what seemed a lifeless body onto the ground, just outside the cave, before they returned into their lair. For the time being it remained immobile, not showing any signs of life or anything else whatso ever.
Ieon - May 11, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
There was nothing wrong in doing the odd job for money, but when the job concerned was to venture into Ungol Felas then the money concerned had better of been worth the trouble.
There were all kinds of vile creatures that lived in the cracks of the shadowed caves, scuttling about to do whatever it was that they did, Ieon had to admit he didn't hold much love for insects, he found them annoying and grotesque more than scary, though some of them had their moments.
He was sent here for three things, the venom of an araphid spider, The claws of a sand beetle and the pincers of a kerip.
Of course, Ieon not being a keen insect keeper had been told exactly what it was he had to look for, the araphid was a fairly large albino spider, that has two large mandibles that inject paralytic venom into its prey, the word large didn't really hit Ieon when all was being described to him, it was just another word for big, couldn't be that bad could it. A sand beetle was exactly that, a beetle that lived in small mounds of sand, apparently they were fairly common and harmless enough. Though they emitted a terrible stink. A Kerip was a worm that dug about under the earth and mainly devoured other bugs, so it would be a good idea to bait them with better incentives like the Araphid spider.
As he walked cautiously through the dying light of the cave, the entrance now only a pinprick on the horizon, he passed round a bend and slipped over a rock, he plummeted downwards, catching himself upon his palms, scraping them however as he hit the stony floor. As he landed his ankle bounced off the rock in question, with a stunned cry of agony he raised himself back to his feet, undeterred from the task. He placed his hand to the wall, the surface was rough and dimpled, patches of moss grew wildly where the felt like it, the walls were damp and slimy to the touch, every so often Ieon wiped the goo from off onto his pants with much disdain.
If it wasn't necessary to find his way through this darkness then he wouldn't do it.
Sometime later just as the client had told him, the darkness began to peel back, light seeping in from slowly, his eyes felt like a newborns slowly opening for the first time in the world, though what he saw was quite different from what a newborn would see, unless they were rather unfortunate or the spawn of spiders.
Light poured in from the ceiling, there was a hole in the ceiling that opened up, Ieon could see the sky, it looked as if it had been made by the occupants, though it was cleverly cut it didn't appear to be the work of humans, possibly the various insects, Ieon only knew of three species here and he was sent to collect them, he didn't know or really want to know what else lingered here.
As Ieon stood still he could hear the scuttling of legs upon the stone over the tiny roar from the walls tiny water fall, it seemed to leak out rather than be there by design, but the constant falling of water had eroded a deep depression into the floor and created a pool of water that seemed to stay level and not overflow. As he approached, he knelt slowly down at the waters edge before he reached into it, he was grateful for common sense, the water seemed black and full of tiny insect bodies, though full of nutrition or so he'd been told, he frankly wasn't that desperate for food.
It was then, under the new sky that Ieon saw it, a large white cocoon upon the floor, jumping back in utter surprise he yelled at the top of his voice.
”SWEET LOTHLOMENDIL!” how big were these spiders? And since when did they start feasting on the flesh of men? There was going to be a reckoning with this bug man when he got back to the inn, it was one thing to miss out a few minor details such as whether they're armed or not or whether they're going to be in the house your stealing from, but when you neglect to mention that the pit your walking into is full of insects that devour people, there's going to be some more gold handed over to compensate.
His sword came out in a flash as he ran to the side of the cocoon and knelt besides it, pulling at the webbing.
Dispater - May 11, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
An intruder has made his presence felt into the cave, it was impossible to remain hidden from the inhabitants of the cave, actually from his very step the intruder alerted the whole colony of arachnids by simply and accidentally stepping one some of their webs. Such a an interesting material the spider silk was, people were known to collect them from the larger spiders and create certain pieces of clothing from them, like cloaks and body armor, the material was light and protected the wearer very good. However it was not very durable, and after a couple of weeks it would just disintegrate, not having its true creator to tend to it every single day, to refresh its tissues.
Those who knew how to use the spider silk in such fashion were very few, as not many liked insects, it was like an inborn aversion towards the insects, and especially to spiders and arachnids in general, which many developed it into what was known as arachnophobia. Spiders were dangerous as they were grotesque, able to secrete powerful corrosive or paralyzing venom with the glands located into their mouths, also once trapped into their web, the chances of survival would reduce to nearly zero. Darkness was not a problem for them, they even used it to their advantage, all those who came to their cave found themselves attacked before they could even realize what was happening to them, though not many were brave enough to venture there. The legends surrounding the Ungol Felas haunted the human’s dreams ever since their early childhood. Giant spiders were rarely spotted, as they were pretty reserved and only surfaced at night when there weren’t so many chances to be seen.
Many have found their ends devoured by the giant spiders, though, no trace of their existence were left behind since they were devoured completely, muscles, bones, it did not matter for the arachnid metabolism.
The human adventurer looked like the next potential victim, he had no idea of what was going on around him, and like many before him he expected to see just a swarm of tiny insects which he could step upon and deal with them once and for all. But he did not know that he was watched by the titans from the shadows, the masters of the cave and its walls, traversing them with an unearthly grace, without a sound, without a hint of their existence… The perfect assassins…
They would have attacked without any other action, but they hesitated all of a sudden, when the rogue approached the cocoon. That was not supposed to happen, and something told to their tiny minds that it was just wrong. Should they lure the adventurer away? Yes, most certainly, once more they became possessed by an unknown force, and atypical for them they descended from the walls, and surrounded Ieon. They looked larger than the size of an average horse, with long slender black and hair legs, and dark green venom emerging with their saliva. None of those which appeared seemed to be albino, the certain race the rogue was looking for. Well, the caves were very fast, just like a labyrinth, there was still more to explore, if he would get away from the giant arachnids. A loud shriek was released at unison by the spiders, a very high-pitched one, disturbing, with an almost deafening effect. They threw themselves at the human male, with a simple yet effective strategy, they just wanted to wrap him up into a web cocoon, before implanting their venom into his body.
Ieon pulled at the cocoon, and managed to rip off a part of it, the figure trapped inside was finally revealed to his eyes. It had a dusky flesh, which seemed to have endured a lot of pain lately, several red burning marks could be also spotted upon it, though they had discernable form, like a tattoo, something the giant spiders were not capable of doing. Long silver locks of hair flowed down the shoulders of the man trapped inside. He did not look as if he was from this plane of existence.
The air reached to him, though putrid it was far better than the nothing he had inside that cocoon, his senses were quickly picked up, the muscles of his face twitched then lowered in a frown, making a lot of effort to lift his eye-lids after awhile of ‘hibernation’. The world was spinning around him, he had no idea of what happened to him lately, and just stared blankly at the man kneeled at his side. Just a couple of seconds was needed for him to realize what was going around, and with a small effort of will he reached into the minds of the giant spiders and ordered them to halt. It was something he had never done before, he acted on instinct, however it seemed too natural for him, because of the third essence which has been infused within him. No one could tell what on the earth or the nine hells kept this entity alive, with so many contradictions within him, essences, all struggling for power and domination.
Ieon - May 11, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
The webbing felt sticky to the touch, as he clawed at the webbing he felt the constant urge to begin ripping it off of his own hands which it seemed to stick to regardless. It was futile at the moment to begin cleaning himself up, he thought of the water behind him, he would have to risk dipping his hand into that sable pool, he didn't fancy the idea much, he could envision some form of amphibious insect dwelling in the murk ready to snap at his hands. Later.
He stayed calm as he saw the skin of the cocooned body, small burn marks appeared all over the body of the man, it was indeed a man of some description, he didn't appear to be mortal in the least, he looked more demonic perhaps a strain of half breed raku, still whatever he was he was still beneath the mass webbing of the spiders, though he could only wonder what it was that had burnt him.
Had insects gotten the ability to burn now? He sincerely hoped not, it was bad enough that they secreted venom and were full of disease, fire was one thing that they should never obtain.
He stopped short of moving again as the eyes of the captive burst open, his lungs once again drawing air from the cave surrounding, his body heaving up and down as he did so, Ieon gazed into his emerald green eyes, they seemed like jewels, the light bouncing off them in all directions, though as he gazed into them he could see great age and experience in the man, though something about the expression on his face gave away his inner turmoil and shock of being awoken from such a slumber as disgusting as this.
Though something else caught the assassin's attention, the captive's eyes were like giant mirrors, displaying what was behind Ieon, something arachnid, two of them and they were lunging at Ieon with a means to kill. They were too close for him to draw his sword and strike at them as they would to he, quickly with as little effort as possible, Ieon rolled over the body avoiding the grip of the webbing that encased him and rolled around to eye the spiders stood still looking at the man within the cocoon.
Ieon stood to his full height, he drew both his dagger and his sword and held them prepared, one of their hairy legs took a step forward towards the helpless man and he would defend him, he was still alive and he wasn't about to let him be mauled by spiders again.
The spiders great mandibles retracted, which Ieon could only find worrying, perhaps they were going to encase him yet again in webbing, what ever they were doing they hadn't finished by Ieons guess, but even still they didn't move to do anything, they just stood there. Their many eyes gazing at the cocooned man intently as if they were waiting for something.
Ieon replaced his sword back in its sheath slowly, the spiders staring at him as he did so, emitting another terrible wail which he could only describe as a scream though gravel. It was hideous, fitting of such hosts.
He knelt back down besides the cocoon again and began picking at the webbing, his eyes glancing to and fro from the webbing to the man's visage.
”You ok?” he didn't expect and answer from him, but he carried on talking anyway hoping for a coherent response
”Names Ieon, im going to get you out of here then we can gut these spiders and leave for a drink, i've never seen anything like this”
He extended his dagger hand to the webbing, its pointed tip cutting under the webs before the spiders began another wail of battle.
”Guess not” he replied as he retracted the dagger and put it back in its hold.
Dispater - May 11, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
A slight shake of the head was given from the trapped man, and the spiders quickly retreated, they could feel the taint of the Demonweb Pits on this man, it was the only thing which they regarded superior over them. He didn’t even manage to blink, as he was very fatigued and drained even from the last drop of his powers.
Just look in what situation he found himself at the moment! One that he hated all of his long life, to be in a helpless stance like that, forced to accept help from another. Small memories of his former self came to him, but still he could not tell exactly what was wrong with him.
The sudden change into the human’s posture would have normally alerted him, but not this time, he continued to stare blankly, focusing on his inner self, as if he was trying to make his body function properly once more, he was immobilized, the only thing he could move being the muscles of his face. Such disgusting creatures those spiders were, though he did not understand why he felt a sudden approach and understanding towards them, what seemed to be an affinity to arachnids was starting to develop within him, empowered by (once more) unknown forces.
His eyes gazed back into those of the rogue, and likewise, he could see his reflections, but he did not recognize himself, he was completely changed, his appearance seemed like a hybrid of his previous two forms, and something else... At least that much he could remember. The cocoon was further sliced by the rogue, giving more freedom to Dispater. The man was trying to have a conversation, he told his name, and was quickly memorized by the ‘trapped demon’, and in turn another name was sent to his mind, and eventually through his lips: “Dis… pater…”, that was his name. And as he said that, he realized that he could move his arms, pulling them out of the prison, to shred through the web cocoon with his slightly long dark nails. They were more durable than those of a human and if needed they made formidable weapons, a slight advantage of his nature. He was starting to recover, and soon, he sat up, stretching his muscles. He would soon be free.
“Anything like what?” Dispater asked, turning his head to look at the rogue once more, now he didn’t need his help anymore, he freed the other half of his body himself, however he remained seated. There was no time for Ieon to reply, as Dispater started to talk again, his contradictory nature was disturbing him at the moment: a part of him wanted to kill every single creature inhabiting that cave and blow it up if possible, but another just didn’t allow him to do that. “Let’s get out of here, and never come back! This is no place for a human.” Of course, that advice was only available for the human, he knew that it would be a time when he would return, and that like pretty soon, he had a powerful urge to investigate this matter.
Socializing was not a bad idea, so having the human stick around him for awhile seemed pretty appealing to the killer, but how could he manage to that. Somehow he had to repay Ieon for his help, even if he was broken and changed, some of the values he had still lingered somewhere within him, no debt should remain unpaid.
When he stood up to his full 6 feet and 5 inches, he looked pretty imposing, and the muscles seemed as if they were going to burst through his skin, that’s how tensed he was, mainly because of the severe headache he was experiencing at the moment. The taint was trying to take over his mind, shatter it to pieces and turn him into nothing more than a minion, but that would not happen too soon, hopefully.
“You shall be repaid” He whispered as he turned around, and left off slowly towards the nearest exit.
Ieon - May 12, 2007 11:29 AM (GMT)
Ioens eyes glanced down to the trapped man, he watched as his head lolled to the side and shook at the spiders, both of which stood very still, chattering their mandibles together possibly in some kind of protest though they remained in their place, whatever strange power of will this one before him had over the spiders, it was a damn good one and Ieon wasn't about to tell him to stop just because he found it somewhat disturbing and in some ways untrusting.
If he could control them, perhaps he had done this to himself, hoping that someone would come in and attempt to free him, Ieon suddenly felt like a tiny fly on a rather large web and he was freeing the spider of his bonds. He felt stupid.
The mans gaze was constantly shifting between the spiders and Ieon himself, what manner of creature was he, after all, he certainly didn't look human or any strain of demon Ieon had ever come across, he examined his frame, the flesh of his arms had become visible from underneath the torn webbing that fell in frayed strands upon the floor.
The man's arms bulged, that was the only way he could describe it, veins ran down his arms protruding from underneath his skin, strange how even they looked like the webbing he was previously encased in. There was an ever increasing urge in Ieon's mind to either run or stick a blade into his heart, though the spiders before him would soon maul him to death or worse and put the same perverse fate upon him.
The mouth of the man began to move once again and he watched the lips shift with great intrest for what they had to say, his voice sounded strained but he managed to make a sound audible enough for him to hear.
”Dispater, Your lucky day i guess”
Or so he thought for only a few more moments, the arm was now fully revealed to Ieons surprise it ended in not hands but more claw like in appearance, something which he assumed better for eviscerating him with. It jerked and twitching on its own, with a sharp and sudden movement the captives arm freed itself from its constraints, Dispaters upper torso sat up, he looked at Ieon an expression upon his face of utter confusion.
“Anything like what?” Ieon looked around at the webbing at the sheer amount of insects that infected this place like the plague and was about to tell him exactly what it was that he hated, but Dispater had already begun to speak again, cutting Ieon short from any form of reply.
“Let’s get out of here, and never come back! This is no place for a human.” there was such a detachment from that sentence, which further proved Ieon theory that he wasn't a human.
The great frame of Dispater loomed at its full height of six foot five, Ieon looked up at his face before the giant turned on his heels and left beginning to walk off towards the exit. Of course without Dispater's protection the spiders began to urge forward slowly, their legs gently flicking upon the stone creeping towards their next meal. His sword blazed out of their sheaths and his dagger took on a more fierce pose in his hand as he took a leap at the spiders, they jumped back screeching and chattering, they flicked out their hairy legs but before they could strike a hit, Ieon was gone, down the path following Dispater, arriving just in time to hear the words.
“You shall be repaid” Of course the prospect of gold was great to Ieon, he could claim compensation from the person who sent him there and now he could get gold from Dispater too, this seemed like a profitable venture after all.
He sheathed his weapons once again as he spoke out to Dispater, he was curious as to why he was in there in the first place, not many people went into dark caves and end up being wrapped in a silken blanket made by their spider hosts.
”So what in the nine hells were you doing in there!? Care explaining that much whilst we walk”
Dispater - May 12, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
It was there and it was pretty obvious, a hesitation into the rogue’s voice, as well as in his actions. And the very one who caused that hesitation was Dispater himself. Though, Ieon could not be blamed for that, Dispater was acting as if he was the leader of those spiders, and the weirder fact was that he didn’t even realize. He controlled them and forced them to remain peaceful only through his subconscious. He could barely control his limbs to move properly, not to talk about his innate or infused abilities, they just acted on themselves, as if they had a mind of their own. The giant spiders still didn’t want to let the rogue leave their cave, but they seemed to have no choice, they followed helplessly the two humanoid figures, in hopes that Dispater would change his mind and allow them to attack the human, they were pretty much starving, and people have ceased to venture into their cave for awhile. They had to go hunting if they wanted to survive.
The rogue caught up with Dispater pretty quickly, and they both left for the nearest exist from the cave, guided only by the small rays of light coming from outside. All small and large arachnids alike allowed them to pass, such a strange behavior, which didn’t seem to surprise the concordant killer at all, when it should have to begin with. And probably that served only to empower the hesitation of the human rogue.
The came the question of the rogue, a question which seemed to echo through the mind of Dispater over and over again, it struck him like a thorn in his brain, it only made his headache stronger than before. He was struggling to remember what happened to him, how did he end up wrapped in a web cocoon, did he do that to himself? No, that was not possible, he did not enjoy hibernating there, so he wouldn’t have done something like that to himself. The pain he had to endure while trapped into the Demonweb Pits, seemed to return to him whenever he tried to remember the faces of those who tortured him, it was like a mental barrier created by his aggressors, so he would not start to hunt them down if something went wrong with their experiment and he will be out of control. They sent him back only to complete the process of his transformation, but there were only 50 % chances to succeed.
Dispater seemed to be also able to notice the slight changes into the rogue’s behavior, a small sparkle was lightened within him when he heard about a small repayment. That would be the perfect plan to have him stick around, delaying him with the repayment until he was no longer needed. The things between them were unknown as of yet on how they will evolve, there were equal chances to leave on their own, befriend or try to kill each other. The last alternative was something that Dispater would not want for the time being. He needed to regain his powers first and get a hold of the things that happened around him.
And after a few seconds of grave silence, he finally replied, his words being seconded by a winch, coming from the base of his throat. “I don’t know, though, I would not deny any theory. Maybe I did this to myself, and maybe there was someone else… It has to be someone else.” He shook his head slightly, and stared blankly at the ground, but his thoughts were interrupted, as he made the first step outside the Ungol Felas, the light was so bright and strong that made his eyes burn, the long while spent in darkness caused his eyes to be sensitive to the sun, till they would adjust once more.
“Where are we?” asked Dispater, when he realized that he had no idea where exactly they were located.
Ieon - May 12, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
As Ieon followed behind Dispater, he felt somewhat in awe of the hulking man before him, he knew his way around the caves of Ungol Felas without a map or even light so it seemed, and the inhabitants crawled beneath his feet, constantly circling around him keeping up with his stride as he did so. Another thought that made Ieon only think to distrust the man before him, though he didn't let it show too much through any discrepancy in his voice. He also noted the two larger spiders were following closely behind him, constantly flicking their mandibles at his calves hoping to take a bite of the tender flesh within, though they were only teasing themselves with each and every snap, for some reason they relied on the word of Dispater though it was unfathomable to Ieon.
The caves exits were often splitting in different directions, though Dispater seemed to instincivly know which ones to walk down and which not too, though with every entrance passed Ieon could only imagine what lay down there, itching to explore that avenue and not to leave it behind in the recesses of his mind. Under his feet he could feel the small lichen like substance, ooze covered and wet, it was a thoroughly unpleasant feeling as he walked, the whole cave around him was uninviting unless you happened to be some kind of insect or Dispater. There was only a few seconds after Ieons initial question, though Dispater had no answer as to his previous situation, all he knew was that he was in the cocoon and most likely not for a good reason either. Ieon put it down to the venom that was most likely injected into him, he had heard tales from this cave, one does not simply go into a cave without properly researching what is in it, his research had led him to stories of men forgetting why they were in there in the first place due to a form of spider bite.
Looking over his shoulder at his arachnid tormentor, he saw the venom dripping from the jaws of the spider onto the floor beneath it, for all he knew they were to blame for the memory loss of Dispater. The disgusting creatures walked behind him, their movements and appearance revolted Ieon completely, they would look better impaled on the end of steel he decided quietly to himself.
There was however another question that ran through his mind, after rescuing someone from impending doom, one usually finding themselves befriending the person, though the way Dispater acted only lead Ieon to the conclusion that friendship was off the cards in this instance, a quick exchange of gold or some other means of payment and that was thanks enough, though he didn't really question Dispater on such a subject, he had just been freed from the cocoon of a spider, people tend not to get over that quickly, or at least Ieon wouldn't at any rate, a small amount of tact was needed.
The cave entrance became more and more open, the light Ieon saw fade into the distance of the sable taint of the cave soon began to grow, rays of light shattering the blindness and all became clearer as once again darkness turned to day.
It was a blessing, the clear blue sky, clouds rolling across the heavenly plains, the sun blazing in the air, though one look at Dispater told him that he wasn't having too keen a time with the suns glaze.
Though he couldn't help but smile as the spiders began to dance backwards, clearly affected by the light, so used to the darkness where they that they had forgotten what it looked like and now they even seemed to hate it, turned away by it.
If Ieon was going to come back he would remember that well.
He reached over his shoulder and fingered a small clasp that attached his cloak to his person, catching it before it fell to the ground he flicked it upwards and draped it over Dispaters head to calm the glare he so suffered from. Dispater had no idea where he was and if he was there by his own design then he should of known, Ieon was confused.
”Were in the Ungol Felas caves of the Erad Annon Mountains.” He pointed outwards to the vast wrinkled peaks that peirced the air and up into the clouds further than he could see. He turned his gaze and diverted his point to down below, a small mountain pass could be seen, two great walls of rock stood side by side looming over a great passage way, at the forefront was a small town, smoke raising from the chimneys of the huts.
”Thats the gap of Annon, the village is Ondolond”
Dispater - May 12, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
The burning sensation his eyes experienced intensified, it was almost the middle of the day when the sun radiated its most powerful light. But, a piece of clothing came over his head, falling like a blessing over his cursed being. It was a relief, but he could not walk with a cloak over his head, that was just weird, and he experienced a great confusion already, a blindfold would not help him anyway. His lips curled, and soon they released a whispered succession of words: The human heart is noble by nature, people themselves are the ones who later alter it. It sounded like a fact, a proverb of sorts, but one could not tell exactly to what or to who it was directed. Perhaps to the rogue, since he was the only one around, and made a noble deed in trying to ease Dispater’s burden. Unlike other creatures, humans were not good or evil from the very first day of their existence, a great gift was given to them and that was the ability to chose their own fate. Such a gift they had.
He was created for only one single purpose eons ago, and that was to maintain the cosmic balance, it seemed as if he didn’t have any choice, he was like a machine programmed to do whatever its creator wanted it to do. That much he remembered about him, he had to seek and destroy everyone who threatened to disrupt the balance, no matter on what plane of existence it dwelled. But now, after the recent events unfolded he felt released of this cause, he knew that in this psychological state he was unable to return to his old ways. He had to started a new. He felt like Balance has turned against him, and as a revenge he will turn against it, it seemed that this part of his memory was not mentally blocked, it only helped their tormentors with their cause, as hate started to accumulate within him, hate against his own kin: the concordant killers and what they represented and fought for.
For the time that this thoughts came flashing through his mind, he remained, covered by the cloak of the man, the darkness which formed around him only lulling him further into a meditative stance. From the time he asked his question and the time he got an response from his newly companion seemed to have passed another eternity. But the man’s words only helped him snap back to reality; he grabbed the cloak firmly and removed it from his head, going to face the light of the sun, he was not a creature of Darkness, so he should accommodate pretty soon. The cloak was given back to the man, in a polite yet absent manner.
From the emerald green color, his eyes now turned to red, as if they filled with blood; they blinked a few times until they were able to remain open without any further effort, they were now scanning the surrounding areas, trying to follow the directions given by the rogue. Those names didn’t ring any bell to Dispater, but maybe he should memorize them as well, they could come in handy sometime.
The question which haunted his mind were many, and they all made sense: What was he to do now, where was he to go? Unable to take a more human-like form he would not be able to blend with the rest of the people, he will have to live in secrecy with those who will accept him. And the most welcoming of all seemed to be the spiders, inhabiting the very patch of Abyss on earth located behind him, that he was so trying to run away from.
A few exploring jobs also sounded like a good idea, before he would decide where to go with his life; his head turned slowly to once more look at the smaller form of the human. “Where are you heading to?”
He realized that he had no weapons upon him, none of those he used to earn, he could tell that he sent them somewhere through a dimensional portal, but couldn’t remember the exact location, it was a desperate act after he has been captured. And without his equipment he would not be able to repay the man either. Now what should he do? Perhaps a service of sorts would do instead.
Ieon - May 12, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
The open air was a welcome relief, he took in great breaths savouring the refreshing taste and purity the world offered when you climbed higher, back in the cave the air had been damp and dusty at best, the foetid smell of faeces and urine was rife in the cave, the smell burnt at his nostrils and even now as he stood at the spine of the civilised world, leaving behind him the world of creatures destined to dwell in darkness the overwhelming irritation was wearing away, it was good to be out in the open yet again.
He loved the sight of the mountains during the day, from the base they looked like a great set of digits, reaching up towards the heavens clawing at the clouds that floated on by, trying to snatch them out of the air. It was a beauty to behold but now as he stood at a higher vantage point he saw them in a different light, the great mountains themselves seemed to form a huge walkway for the gods themselves, the mountains seemed to trail on forever for as far as he could see into the breaking horizon.
He looked at Dispater, the cloak over his head clearly easing his burden, with it draped over his flesh he no longer appeared tense, his breathing had slowed down by all sounds, it was as if all distress had been washed away from him in the darkness. He appeared like a drow, breaking free from the underdark for the very first time, he would adjust eventually but for now Ieon had to make sure he didn't take it too far, if his eyes were accustomed to darkness then breaking them in with so much light was more than they could handle. He didn't want him going blind for now.
He watched as Dispater took the cloak from his head in a single clawed hand, the fabric of the cloak slowly sliding down from his skin and hung in his grasp, before Ieon reached out to accept it from him.
It was only a matter of seconds before the emerald green eyes of Dispater turned to a brilliant red, the suns rays drying out his eyeballs, leaving him subject to irritation. If only he would wear it on his head and hang the cowel above his eyes, that would save him some bother but not all of it.
Dispater spoke to him in his foreign dialect that Ieon could not recognise as any regional accent.
”Me, im supposed to be going back in there” he claimed as he pointed at the cave entrance, the spiders looking eager at him, though with a shuffle of his feet dirt flung up and blanketed them making them scream and jump back. ”Though im thinking of heading back to Ondolond and finding the alchemist I'm working for, there's going to be a reckoning, he neglected to mention that the creatures in that godforsaken cave devoured humans and others”
He thought of the horrors he would inflict upon the alchemist when he got hold of him, smirking at the pleasure he would find in such an act, that and he would make a little more gold from it in the long run if he decided to go back and get the items in question.
”What about yourself?” The man in question was an utter mystery, he didn't look human at all and some places found themselves less than accommodating for those who didn't seem to be from this plane of existence, he thought about the possibility of having Dispater tag along with him, he looked capable enough to hold his own against many a foe, though Ieon thought against it should he have to rid himself of him. It would make him far too recognisable, should any of his deeds get named to him then all they would have to do is find the hulking demon and Ieon wouldn't be too far behind.
Not that Dispater was unpleasant, it just didn't sit well with Ieon.
”Plenty of things you could do out there, join a guild, temple maybe, find a cause to fight for or if you're like me fight for gold, done me a good livin' that has”
He lied, his living before this had been horrible, an Assassin in the streets of Angband wasn't a job one took lightly.

Dispater remained in his consuming confusion, continuing to glance around the places, those mountains coming slowly into focus to his eyes, they adapted pretty fast to the sudden change of illumination mainly because he was not a creature of the dark.
The cloak from his hand was soon taken back by Ieon, the man who seemingly saved him from the entrapment of the cocoon, the feeling of being wrapped around in spider web was not a pleasant one to experience, he pitied those who fell victim to the spiders.
The rogue spoke, as a response to his question, but his words didn’t seem to reach Dispater in any way at all, he was lost in the landscape, also trying to recover after the shock caused by the sudden change into his whole being. Feelings of anger were focused towards a certain caused he used to serve which in turn did nothing for him, those feeling seemed to turn his stomach upside down, yet the expression of his face remained blank and calm. Such a strange creature to behold, and probably Ieon could admit it.
But now he was indebted to the rogue, and somehow he needed to repay him. Dispater didn’t have any gold or items upon him for the time being, and the prospect of doing a service to the human once in his life perhaps would sound more valuable. After all, who didn’t like a demon on their side when in tight situation, where their lives could depend on?
”Plenty of things you could do out there, join a guild, temple maybe, find a cause to fight for or if you're like me fight for gold, done me a good livin' that has”
Hearing those words coming from the rogue, Dispater almost wanted to laugh, but he stopped just in time, shaking his head slightly, before turning to look upon the human once more, and probably for the last time. “I must thank you again for releasing me from my prison, but I don’t have any gold or items now to repay you somehow, but better yet, I am offering my services to you when you will need them, just use them wisely. You will know where to find me, and till then, farewell!” The words escaped his lips with ease, and with that said, he turned and started to walk off in a quest of ‘finding himself’, having someone around would only make his task harder.
(sorry short, but this topic has to come to a conclusion. And with this last post, the thread is completed)
