As Kayla entered the main gates, she could hear the sounds of something scraping the cobbled stone ground and children laughing and playing. She had heard that there was a festival in town that was being held in Lómëdor Square, so Kayla had delayed her plans deliberatley so she could miss it. The reason was simple, Kayla wasn't the partying type. No, she was more of the person to enjoy peace and quiet... as well as a piece of music and some wine. Sometimes Kayla missed the simple things such as reading and writing, but in time she grew to accept what fate had dealt her.
Walking into the town, she must have look a bit odd. Kayla was neither tall nor short, mid-sized perhaps, with brownish/ginger hair tied up in a bun behind her head. Her eyes were covered with a bandage, because they had been cut out at an early age by a bandit. But she could still see... not with her eyes though. Her mentor called it her 'mind's eye'. She could somehow detect basic objects and people close-range, but Kayla often used her other senses to get around. Her hearing, her sense of smell, touch, even taste.
However, Kayla was no stranger to danger... attatched to her waist was a piece of cloth which was holding her katana blade sheath. The katana blade was a weapon not often used by people in Arda for it was an exotic weapon and rather than other swords that were used to hack and slash whilst the katana blade was all about precision and timing. With one slash, it could be sever the arm of someone so quickly that they wouldn't even notice.
Walking into the town, she could hear that the sweeping noise had stopped and people were obviously staring at her. She heard someone whisper about a blind woman walking around and how they should her past. If it was one thing that Kayla hated, it was being treated with pity and sorrow. She never asked for it and she never wanted it in the first place. But it was a natural reaction from everyone, and so Kayla simply let them speak about how horrible it must be not being able to see.
Kayla eventually decided to sit down and rest, finding a tavern with some tables outside for a sunny day. Sitting down, Kayla waited until she heard the voice of the tavern owner come forth and speak to her...
"Can I offer you a drink miss?"
"A glass of juice, thank you." Was Kayla's reply, short and sweet.
The tavern owner went scurrying off and came back with her juice, placing it on the table. She could smell the juice from her seat, it was freshly made. Good, the last person who tried to sell her stale food and drink regretted it. The tavern owner piped up and Kayla knew what he was going to say. He was going to tell her where he had placed the juice.
"I've put it down..."
But before he could finish, Kayla's hand darted out with quick precision and grabbed the mug peftectly... without knocking it backwards or tipping it up. She then took a long deep drink from the mug and let the cool taste of the orange juice flow through her body and refresh her. It tasted fantatic, and Kayla couldn't help but let out a small little burp afterwards. After excusing herself, Kayla placed the cup down and thanked the owner for the juice... and then she simply sat there to relax as the tavern owner walked off... perhaps scared that this woman was still able to see despite the fact that she was blind.
Arthur had been drinkign in the bar when this strange person came in. He noted that she was a girl and blind. He knew this gril would not cause trouble but more likely trouble would find her. He then noted something else about her as he saw her take the drink without having to have it handed to her. He reinstated his thoughts and thought," Okay trouble won't find her but still no need not to be cautious". he then went over and sa ta few seats away from her and said to the barkeep," Give me some Firewhiskey I need soemthign strong tonight". Once it came he drank some and then looekd at the girl and realized she was pretty. He wondered at who she was but he would wait he had patience.
Kayla could hear the person from a way away, either they weren't a human (which Kayla had nothing against) or they were wearing heavy boots. Something made Kayla reach for her blade when the noise of footsteps came near her, she was sure jumpy today. But that was her way, Kayla was always jumpy when entering a new town. She had entered one town before where someone tried to take her coin purse, they were lucky enough only to recieve a buzz cut that Kayla gave the wannabe thief.
However, this person simply walked past and sat down. Kayla relaxed and scolded herself mentally for being so jumpy. This was a friendly town, there were guards patrolling the area and they could easily sort out trouble before Kayla would have to get involved. Instead, Kayla got back to her juice and kept on drinking it in order to cool herself down.
Most people would have introduced themselves to a person staring at them, (yes Kayla could tell this new comer was staring at her), but not Kayla. She didn't speak often unless the need arose. She was a woman of very few words and when needed be, she let her blade to most of the talking. She had been travelling around, never staying in one place for too long and always on the move. Now she was in Lomedor Square, ready to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.
But who was this stranger? She could tell by the way he was breathing and by his footsteps that there was something different about him. His voice as well seemed different, almost... wild. Could it be that this person was half human/half animal. Kayla had come across plenty of creatures such as Orcs, Goblins, Trolls etc. So what creature was this then?
Arthur wondered at the girl and looked away and took along drink and he said to the girl," Mam if I may ask, are you not worried that someone would take advantage of your predicament". He did not smile as he said this as he was worried because people often took advantages over people with disabilities.
