Title: All washed up
Gwen Gamore - April 20, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
Gwen swam through the sea without a care in the world. The day was beautiful and she was ready for a little more exploring. It was in her nature to explore. This was both a blessing and a curse of curiosity.
Today she had been swimming for some time. She was quite far away from her city, but did not mind. She was fine with traveling alone. It was less fun, but you had nobody to split the prizes you found on the exploration with.
Gwen started to feel the water currents change rapidly and become more forceful. She new that a large whirlpool was about to be created. She knew of the danger this could bring.
She began to swim as fast as she could, but the whirlpool was enlarging quickly. Soon there was no hope of escaping it. She was pulled around in the direction of the whirlpool. As hard as she struggled she could not free herself from its hold.
While being spun around Gwen hit coral. The sharp coral lacerated her flesh as she was swept across it. The water around her began to turn red as her blood pored out, mixing with the salty water. Her fin took a beating and she could barely swim.
She swam as best she could to the top of the water, poking her head out. She seen a shore close ahead. With the rest of her strength she began to swim towards it. It was painful, but she knew she had to make it. Soon her vision began to blur and she would black out for second. She was going to pass out from blood loss.
She breathing decreased and her muscles began to give out on her. She was mostly being pushed in by the waves. Before long she gave in to her pain and was enveloped it darkness.
When she awoke she was on a beach shore. The sun was farther along in the sky. She must of been out for a few hours. She tried to move herself back into to water, but she was too weak from the blood loss and cuts. She would have to wait for them to heal up a bit. For now she was stranded and defenseless. In the water she was one of the fastest mers around, but on land the merfolk where next to useless.
Gwen Gamore - April 21, 2007 12:26 AM (GMT)
The sun's rays began to beat down on Gwen. She could feel her scales drying out. After a while of laying on the beach Gwen began to change into her land form. Her tail was soon replaced with two legs. This always happened when mermaids remained on land long enough. You could easily tell she was a mer though. Her hands and feet where webbed and she had fins running along the outer edge of her arms and legs. They were pressed tight to her body but would fold out at her will. She also carried the smell of the sea where ever they went.
Her metamorphosis gave Gwen the opportunity to see the land for a bit. It wasn't every day a mer got the chance to see the land. She did not much care for it, but given the circumstances she was in, it was the most fun thing she could think of.
She hoped that she would meet one of the many land races that walked this dry earth. She took slow careful steps as she moved. She was nervous, being most vulnerable on land. Her injuries added to her vulnerability. She kept pushing forward though, taken in by all the new sounds and smells.
It was quite beautiful up here, but not a beautiful as the endless seas. She took deep breaths, taking in the salty air and the aroma of fresh flowers. She soon broke the silence and called out in a sweet voice " Is anyone there? She couldn't pass up a chance to play with one of the land folk, she had seen so little in her immortal life.

Moth-like wings fluttered slightly, producing a strange sound like the one of several bells ringing at unison, and from what seemed to be the shadow of a rock located on the sandy shore a strange and very intriguing creature emerged. It seemed just like a male elf in miniature, about 2 feet and a half tall, with pale skin and a dark and cold appearance. This new arrival was a dark fairy, one that was thought to always bring bad things with him, such as death and events which would lead to death, people always tried to banish him, but it was like trying to stop the inevitable from happening. The death bringing fairy was blindfolded, he lacked the ability to see, he was cursed to remain be clouded in darkness from the very first day of his existence, however he had adapted and learned to perceive the world with his other senses, such as hearing, smelling and touching. So even if he was blind he could still tell what earlier occurred onto the shore, the very event brought him to this place, before it could even happen.
The mermaid found herself on the sandy shore, unable to return into the water for awhile, no one seemed to be around in order to help her, and even if it was they would have probably wanted her as a trophy, a mermaid was something very rare to see and were often hunted by the sea-wolves. But an unexpected thing happened, one that manage to surprise Malak al-Maut (the fairy), she managed to somehow grow legs and now was able to walk on land. With a little effort she could even pass by as a commoner.
“I am here.” Came the voice of the fairy, radiating a powerful cold and dark charisma, even with his small size, the ominous entity was able to send fear to those he wished. The very thing which he represented brought fear to people, almost everyone is afraid of dying, and not many take it lightly. The reason why he showed himself was unknown, he was not quite as the stories about him said, he just had the curse of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet the souls of those deceased always found his presence very lulling, it helped them find their eternal peace.

Gwen heard someone call out to her. She brushed her hair back and looked in all directions. Nobody was in the general area, so she began to go in the direction of the voice. The breeze of the coast swept salty water through the air. It filled Gwen with vigor and zeal, even in her hurt state.
She finally noticed a small winged creature on a rock. She was not quite sure what it was, as she had never seen one before. She did notice that it resembled the sea fairies that lived in and around the sea. This little creature must have been a close relative.
The creature did not give her the same feeling as the sea fairies did. The sea fairies carried a lively and carefree feeling. This fairy brought the feeling of death and despair with him.
The feeling soon hit her hard.Gwen stepped back slowly and her fins fanned out. This was to make herself look more tough. It was almost by instinct and she did it without thinking. She just stared at the fairy. She did not know why she was afraid of someone so much smaller than her, but she couldn't help it.
She spoke out in a voice that was stronger that her true one " Who are you? What are you? Are you friend or foe?" She spoke quickly and asked many questions without giving him time to respond. She now waited quite impatiently for the answers, feeling like a fish out of water the entire time.

His head was directed towards a random direction, he was not facing the mermaid at all, he didn’t have eyes to see, only ears to hear, and yet he still managed to bring fear to the sea creature. He could feel it rising into her very own being, and he could also feel that he was the cause of that disturbing feeling. The story of his life…
Malak didn’t know how to respond to the woman’s question, so he just remained silence, keeping his small form resting atop of that rock, one of his hands resting atop of his small musical instrument, it was an ocarina which played only songs of sorrow, despair and agony. The musical instrument was kept at his belt, as on the other side a small weapon was located, it would have been a dagger for a medium sized creature, but for him acted just like a sword.
A soft shrug was given from the small being, and his head turned as if he tried to look her up, the cloth wrapped around his eyes was pretty obvious, and also the fact that the fairy was never happy. “Would you like to hear a song?” He asked, his voice the same as before, yet on a more domestic and docile tone. He seemed to have avoided the question of the mermaid in the first place, and the way she was trying to intimidate didn’t do anything good, since he couldn’t see her. But before she could even say anything, his wings began to flutter once more, lifting his form off that rock, he approached the mermaid slowly, and even if he was not a sea fairy he still had the same grace all the fey had.
He was strange, yes, as well as his behavior, he would not deny that, but he was more than often judged all in the wrong way, and that pretty much made him what he was for the time being.

Gwen watched as he flew through the air with grace. Fae where such a beautiful race. This held true to this dark fairy as well, by the way he moved through the skies and by the sound his small wings made as they moved so quickly.
Gwen was a little shocked when he asked if she wanted to hear a song. She did like music though and decided it would be fun to listen to some land music. She spoke up once more, swallowing the fear that built up in her throat " Yes, I would like to hear your music"
She watched him in the air. What a peculiar little fairy. He wore cloth over his eyes and carried such a gloomy look about him. Most Fae where happy, full of energy, or at the very least they held a playful and mischievous look to them. This fairy looked more as if he where lost and alone.
She must have seemed very different to him as well. Even if he could not see her. She did carry the smell of the sea with her. She also had a sort of accent to her, not sounding exactly like the land folk.
She stood against one of the large rocks that sat in the ground. She was not ready to sit down yet, as she did not fully know this despairing creature. The only feeling that surpassed her feelings of woe was her feeling of curiosity. Because of this she was unable to move away any farther. She wanted to hear him sing and she wanted to know more.
The small, bony, fanlike fins that shown gold in the light now folded back tight to her arm. She calmed down a bit. Her fears where masked now and she waited...
Malak al-Maut - April 22, 2007 05:46 PM (GMT)
He was by nature very aware of his surroundings and sensible to all changes in a creature’s behavior so he could feel the fear diminishing from the mermaid. He was not exactly a creature of the land, but that mattered less in that very moment, he was created in another realm, actually another plane of existence, one that dealt with death and the souls of those deceased.
To her words, the dark fairy nodded, and flapped his wings in the opposite direction, forcing himself to turn atop of that rock, where he sat down once more, with his legs crossed beneath him. It was his favorite position when playing his ocarina, and it was good for meditation also.
Before anymore words could be exchanged between them, Malak grabbed the ocarina with both of his hands, and brought it slowly to his mouth; a deep breath was taken, filling his lungs with air, before releasing it all through the small ocarina. His dexterous fingers moved atop of the small holes of the instrument, producing the music, it sounded like a lullaby, yet some grave notes gave a mysterious and dark aura to the song, all the bad feelings Malak brought with him were expressed through the sounds produced by the small ocarina. Yet that didn’t change the fact that the music was almost hypnotic, it had the touch of a fairy to it. If the mermaid will not be careful enough she could be hypnotized and feel some sort of magnetism drawing her towards the male fairy, even if it was not made intentionally.
The fairy seemed relaxed and calm, in fact he was always like that, not much it was that people could do to him, all the attempts of banishing him were pathetic enough to bore the hell out of him, yet he remained sticking to them, giving them a hint of what was going to happen next. But unfortunately they were more focused on trying to make him go away than on what really threatened them, most of the humans were stupid and simple by nature, even if they were so many.
Gwen Gamore - April 22, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Gwen watched as the fairy got situated. She noticed the small ocarina in his hands. Ocarinas made beautiful music when played right. She had a deep love of music and waited anxiously to hear his.
The music was soon flowing out of the instrument and the his soul began to pour out before her. The song was low and hushed, like a song a mother sang to her young before bed. Gwen soon found herself sitting down on the rock, weary from standing.
The whole surroundings seemed to hush for his music. The birds did not churp. The crashing of the waves overpowered by his song. The wind that blew through the trees stopped to listen. All that could be heard was this little fairy's tragic story.
Gwen closed her eyes and let the notes flow around her, being carried by gentle breezes. She could not get up from the rock even if she wanted too, the song was too beautiful, even if it was sad.
Gwen was not totally affected by the songs hypnotic powers, for mer music was also hypnotic. Many sailors had wound up meeting a watery end listening to the beautiful siren song of the mermaids. It did have some affect on her though. She began to long for it, hoping the sad song would never stop.
You could learn the most about someone through their music. Music was someone's deepest feelings being released through the instrument. Instruments are powerful things. They can weave the most beautiful sounds, tell the most well hidden secrets, and even sooth the most savage beasts.
Gwen began to learn about this little fairy as he played his music. It was something that she had never heard before, almost like it was not from this world.
Malak al-Maut - April 22, 2007 08:22 PM (GMT)
The last note of the song escaped the ocarina, and then an unsettling silence followed, the waves of the sea were still silent, the wind didn’t make any sound either, the song was very touching, and had a strange effect on anyone and anything that listened to it, even on the one who played it. A single tear managed to escape past the cloth wrapped around his eyes, and pour slowly onto the rock and soon onto the hot sand. But the silence only lasted for a couple of seconds, and after that the nature has returned to its normal self.
Everything had an end somewhere in time, even if we would like it to exist forever, the song had an end, the creatures had an end and even the immortals, the gods and demigods had an end, sooner or later.
The ocarina was returned to the small man’s belt, and was strapped against it with a leather chord. His head rose, and if his eyes were visible they could be spotted as they stared into nothingness. Malak remained silent, waiting for the mermaid to perhaps say something, he knew that she was still there, he could feel the wind blowing against her form, he could feel her presence there, he was not as helpless as he may look upon a first glance. The strange fact was that he was now at lose of what to do, he appeared on the shore because he thought that she was going to die after being forced out of the ocean. But she seemed to be pretty able to adapt to any circumstances, and now she was as good as any creature wandering the dry land.

The music finally ended, but the world was still quiet, as if they where still hearing the music. Soon the tranquility was over and the world regained its composure. Gwen did not clap though. The song did not call for clapping, it was too beautiful for a clap.
She stood up and spoke " You have great talent. You wield your instrument well" All the thoughts came rushing back to her now " Your music is filled with sadness and loneliness. What tortures your spirit so that your music comes out like that?"
She also noticed that he was alone on this beach. Most Fae lived together, hating to be alone. She let out a deep breath and stepped closer to the fairy, sitting down next to him. The song he had played for her seemed to melt away the fear she felt around him. If he wanted to harm her, why would he have let her hear his song?
She spoke up, deciding to introduce herself " My names is Gwen. I am not from around here. You may have already guessed that though. If I may ask, why are you out hear by yourself?
So many questions stirred around in her head. The song had calmed her down, but it had put her curiosity at bay. She still wanted to know more about this little fairy. She had not seen a creature like him and found him mysterious. This drove her crazy inside, even if she had not shown it on the outside
