Title: If your not careful, you could lose a hand.
Description: Open To All
Argentum - February 19, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Another day, another city and yet another inn. His travel's had left him tired and broke in the well known city of Lómëdor. But in such a big city with so many people, you can never know who to trust or whose lying to you. Argentum walked quietly into the inn, hoping not to catch anybody's attention. His cloak covered his whole body from his head to his ankles. All that was important was that no one look into his eyes. Those blood red eyes which expressed what he really was if anyone was smart enough to guess. He stopped by the counter and sat on one of the high chairs, never looking up in fear that one of the bar tenders might see his face. He probably looked more suspicious as he did now, though. Nonetheless, he waited until finnaly someone attended him.
"How may I help you, sir?"
Asked one of the bartenders kindly.
"Anything thats not too strong would be fine." Argentum replied softly.
The Bartender stared at him with a puzzled look for a ferw seconds, then shrugged and walked off to get what he had asked for. In the nearest corner, Argentum observed a couple of muscular men cornering a young lady. They kept whispering and grabbing her innapropriately. She seemed scared. She was sweating gently trying to fight them off. They probably said they'd kill her if she made a fuss. So typical.
"Why don't you leave the poor child alone, you apes?"
They instantly stopped and looked around, until they finnaly used their pea sized brains to notice the only man at the bar close enough to see them clearly.
"You say something you littl--"
He cut the man off before he could finish his insult.
"I asked you to leave the girl alone."
Sure he sounded heroic, but on the inside Argentum was so scared he could almost feel his heart about to pop out of his chest. The two men approached him. "You got a problem, buddy?" The taller man grabbed Argentum by the cloak and tugged him close. He quickly responded and connected his fist to the mans gut. It did not have much effect, though. "You little snot!" The man yelled, and reached for his knife.
In an instant that you can only dream of, the bartender slammed Argentum's drink on the trouble. "Get out, skinheads!" He yelled. Both the men stomped out furiously. Apparently this bartender was the law of this establishment.
"You ought to be careful. You could lose a hand for hitting someone like that." Muttered the waiter.
"I was more worried about my life." Argentum responded.
Winter - February 19, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Winter woke up in the room she;d rented the previous day, slowly she got out of bed and got dressed. From the looks of the sky outside the window she guessed she'd been sleeping for a few more hours than she intended, although she had gotten to sleep very late last night. She reached for her katana in its scabbard and strapped it over her shoulder, she doubted she would need it but you can never be too sure. She opened the door and stepped out, she could here a several loud voices coming from the bar at the front but she ignored them as she ascended the steps.
Looking around she saw the barman having a go at a pairof rough looking men who stalked out a few moments later grumbling and leaving a fuming barman and a releived looking figure behind, it was hard to tell though since his face was hidden by a hood. Winter's eyes instictivly narrowed but there wan't any need to be mistrustful of him yet, although his appearace said the opposite. Despite this she eventually looked away from him and sat down, it was probably too late to order any breakfast but she wasn't hungry anyway. She looked up and saw the two men huddled outside the window muttering to each other, Winter suspected they were probably thinking of ambushing the stranger when he left.
Winter ignored them, they had nothing to do with her even if they were stupid thugs, the sort she hated. She turned away from the window and decided to at least get something to drink, she got up and walked over to the bar.
"Water please," she muttered.
With a questioning glance the waiter strode off to fetch some, probably from the basin in the toilet. While she waited Winter thought about what she was actually going to do, there was no way for her to travel out of the city so she was stuck here for now until she found a solution.
Arthur Pendragon - February 23, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
Arthur had walked into the bar as two rough looking men left and he saw a girl shaking at one corner and he shook his head and said, Brutes if this wasn't a puplic place I would have hurt em for doing that". EH went up to the bar and the barman said," What it will wait let me guess the usual". HE smield and said," Stronger get me a bottle of Jose Cuervo I need to drown a memory". HE notieced two other people at the bar and then went back to the barman and said," ANy rumours on Dragons that I need to know about". The bartender looekd up and said," Not really haven't heard anything worth your time". Arthru threw a gold coin to him and said," Enlighten me". The bartender smiled and said," Rumour has it that there is a Dragon north of here plaguing this village killed many of their warriors and took a cheiftans daughter no one knows its alignment". Arthru smield and said," Thanks". HE looked at the other two who seemed to listening in on his conversation and he said," Its not nice to eaves drop on people".
Brynne - February 24, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
Brynne was tired, and grumpy. Who wouldn't be after long days of nothing but the scream of seagulls and the shouted orders of your captain? It was about time they put the ship to port; about time that the 'men' (ahem) got to go on shore leave for a day or two. The captain, of course, would remain behind with a small crew to care for the ship and unload or load cargo - whatever his heart desired. The tell-tale flag of black and white had been lowered long before they reached the port city. The skull and crossbones tucked away neatly against the mast; no use in advertising their business, so the captain said.
She was grateful that, this time, the captain was willing to let his cabin 'boy' go ashore to take care of his business. Indeed, the young woman looked very much like a young boy. Her body was slender, showing very little womanly curve beneath the simple tunic she wore. She, of course, took care to ensure that the rouse was kept in place. It would not do to let the rowdy crew know that she were female. Most held the belief that it was bad luck; and those that didn't...
Fortunately for her, long hair was rather common upon the ship. So, the long auburn hair that she usually kept back in a tail at the nape of her neck, did not raise any suspicion. She was young enough that facial hair was not expected, even were she truly a boy. She even dressed like a boy - a simple tunic, made of a heavy cotton material, and leggins of the same type. Her shoes were more like slippers - low around the foot, soft soled with enough roughness to grip the mast for climbing. Even that though was typical among her type - the shoes were comfortable and useful. Her clothes were wrinkled and dirty, obviously she hadn't washed them in days.
Perhaps that was why she was surprised when the two huddling by the door made a grab for her. She was so startled in fact, that the only thing she could do for a long moment was stare at them. They were big, and burly and apparently, full of malice. She had no idea what happened, but she knew they were mad about something.
"Wha' 'ave we 'ere..." one leered at her, bringing his face next to hers. She grimaced at the smell of his rotted breath. Sure, she was no peach in the country, either; but at least she didn't smell like rot. She'd never get the sea scent from her, but she could live with that.
She tried to jerk her arm away. Sure, she was strong, made so by the fact that she climbed around a pirate ship for a living, but she did have her limits. The man held fast to her, still leering at her. The other moved around behind her, effectively pinning her in.
"If its money you want..." she began, tossing a look over her shoulder as the other moved. She didn't like where this was going, and her heart began to beat a little quicker. "I don't have any."
"Oh...don't ye now?" The man behind her said, obviously not believing her. "Then wha' ya be doin' 'ere?" He tossed his head at the door of the inn to emphasize his point.
Oh boy.. Again, she tried to jerk her arm away from the one, thinking that he'd bruised her arm for sure. "I was hoping maybe to find a job. Inn's usually need help..."
A lie, perhaps, but hopefully it would be effective. An angry growl emitted from the man in front of her, and before she could react, he swung her about. Her back slammed against the door hard enough to knock the wind out of her. She blinked rapidly, stifling the tears that threatened to fill those pretty emerald pools.
"Don' lie to me, lad." The man stated harshly as he leaned in close, threatening her without words. "I know ya's 'ave money..." His hand began to feel along her body, searching for a coin purse of some sort.
The other man was laughing, as if it were some private joke. He provided little help for her or for his partner, content to let the first man do the dirty work. Of course, as she was being felt up, the two were passing lewd remarks between them - referring to someone she assumed was inside. She used the man's distraction to reach for her dagger. Luckily, it was close to her hip, on the *other* side of where he was feeling for money. Quick as a whip, she reached out, slicing along his arm with it.
Oh, the small knife wasn't likely to do much damage; but it had done what she'd wanted. With a yell, the man let go of her. She recovered quickly and opened the door, nearly tumbling through in her haste to escape the angered man's retaliation...
Arthur Pendragon - February 27, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
Arthur stood up as soon as the ruckus started and he said," Leave the lad alone or deal with me". The men turned around and said," Stay out of this boy if you don't want to get hurt". Arthur threw off his shirt revaling Studded LEather Armor and he then sheathed his sword and said," I won't get hurt but you will leave the lad alone or be punished by Arthru the Dragon Slayer". The men stooped then and turned around and said," So you think you can take us Drgaon Slayer you just made your detah wish". The men charged and Arthur charged as well he ducked under the mens blows and gave each man a pucn in the gut. The men staggered back gasping for air. Arthur then kicked each square in the face and knockede them both out and said," I don't want to see thsoe two in here ever again got it Barkeep". The bartender shook his ehad in understanding. HE went up to the lad and said," Be carefull around here boy these pubs are dangerous".
Brynne - February 28, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Oh heavens! The thought was hardly finished before she was moving, darting out from under the combatants. Even so, she got jostled and knocked around a bit.
She rolled to her feet, brushing herself off. The fight was over quickly enough, before she had fully straightened her clothing even. Dragon slayer? Well, that was interesting. A piece of information to be filed away for later. If nothing else, she was good for that, and had no qualms with reporting such tidbits to her captain.
As Arthur turned his attention to her, she smirked a little. Emerald eyes lift to his, eyebrows almost too delicate for a boy arch above those glittering pools. Dangerous?
"Yes, Sir." she said simply, her voice rolling off like sweet sugar. The pitch just a little too high to be a young man, yet not overly feminine. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind."
She tossed a look over to the two thugs sprawled upon the floor. "You, however, may want to watch your back."
Arthur Pendragon - March 2, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
Arthur laughed a little and said," Watch my back eh you must belive in never being to over cautious I like that in people makes em more sensible, but I have no need to worry about them they couldn't hurt me anyway". HE looked ta the boy there was soemthign strange about him but he couldn't place it. He said," My name is Arthur and if anybody ever gives you trouble boy all you gota do is call for me, I hate it when people bother kids and women its not right". He went up to the bar and said," Get the boy a drink barkeep its on me I think we have seen enough excitment for one day". The bartender shook his head and went to prepare a drink.
Brynne - March 5, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
Brynne was a little stunned at the man's arrogance. Her head cocked to the side a little as she studied him. A small grunt escaped her as she shrugged her shoulders.
"Over cautious? Not hardly." She turned to the bar as the man began to move, her steps quick and nearly silent.
"But, being so arrogant..." she admonished, shaking her head a little. Her captian had always taught her never to be so sure that you're smug about it. There's always someone out there who's better. Its best to keep your wits about you, and assume that if you turn your back, they have the advantage. That was one thing you never wanted to give up...your advantage.
"Ale." she said simply to the barkeep, accepting Arthur's invitation for a drink. She settled upon a barstool, tucking her legs up to hook her heels upon a rung. A look is tossed in Arthur's direction; studying him quietly for a long moment.
"And something to eat." she said to the keep as the ale was set before her. Her tongue flickered over her lips with anticipation of her first non-seafaring meal in some time. Her belly rumbled a little and instinctively, she placed a hand against it.
"So...are you familiar with this town? Is this a decent place to stay a night or two?"
Arthur Pendragon - March 6, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
Arthru smield and said," A little I come ehre often to find news and odd stuff". HE then said," This here is the best palce to stay its got nice beds and suthc and a nice bar". He took another drink and strated to hum a little and looked aroud and said to the barkeep," HEy what happened to your Minstril". THe barkeep looekd up and said," He left just up and left". Arthru shook his head and said," A Inn and Tavern ain't mutch without music". He sighed a little and took many more drinks. HE looked at the young man and said," So if I may ask the pleasure of your name young sir". He heard the doors open and he turned around and watched as the two large men were thrown out. Arthru then laughed and said," Serves em right the yshould know better about bothering people". THe bartneder shook his head and said to him," Arthur you need to be careful I know your tough and I know that your more than capable fo taking care of yourself but still those men can bring you even trouble", Arthru smield and said," THe only way they could is if they know a dragon that will willingly fight me for them whitch their aren't". The barkeep shook his head again. Arthur thought he heard him mumble something about " OVer COnfident Dragon SLayer". Arthur just laughed.
Brynne - March 6, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
Odd tidbits? Well, she's in the right place then, it seems. One could never have too much information to use as bargaining chips. Her captain would be pleased to have any news that could be useful. Comfortable beds wouldn't hurt either.
She took a drink of ale as the keep set it before her. She listened as he spoke to Arthur for a moment before moving off to fetch her requested 'feast'. She patted the purse at her hip, hoping there was enough there to purchase a room and food for the night.
At the mention of her name, she nearly flinched. She could give him her ship name; the name that most of her crew members knew her by. It would certainly keep her secret, and she had no qualms with giving it, per se. But, just once, it would be nice to be known by her given name.
"Brynne." she stated simply, her voice full of more confidence than she felt at the moment. She waited for his reaction; watching from the corner of her eye.
Arthur Pendragon - March 6, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
Arthur thought for a moment and said," Brynne a nice name though can't say I know many boys with a Dragonic derived name I knew at least one back in Ondoland weird kid gets alot of laughs, but you know its derived from the Draconic word Briyyne which means Sea or something like that I can't really remember even thoug I udnerstand draconic". He laughed a little and took some more of his drink. He then said," I have alreayd given you my name as Iam Arthur but I have another name by that of Dar'Vaeg it wouldn't mean anythign to you as its Dragonic and well not many people udnerstan it".
Brynne - March 6, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
For a moment, she simply looks at him. A sly little smile touches her lips and she turns away; giving her attention to the bowl of stew the keep brings. A slice of half-stale bread is given to her as well. It didn't matter though, that it was half-stale, it was still better than sea-faring cuisine.
She took a bite of stew, listening to him ramble about her name. Apparently, he still hadn't clued into the fact that she's not a male. This seems to amuse her, though she kept it quiet.
"Sea?" She laughed at that, shaking her head. What an appropriate name, then. "Well, I did arrive upon a ship..." she remarked idly.
The second given name is filed away; rolled about in her head. She didn't try to say it just yet, unsure of the pronounciation. She did wonder though, as she ate her meal, just why the man would offer another name to her...
Arthur Pendragon - March 7, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
Arthur smield at the young man and said," Thats interesting a sailor very interesting I myself liek the sea its the only place Iam truly free of the world besides that of the skies". He looked around a bit more. He thne took some more sips from his drinks and said," SO are you here till the tide leaves or what".
Brynne - March 7, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
A sailor is what he'd taken her for; and she was happy not to expand on that for him. She ate her meal, only talking between bites. Her gaze slid over the other patrons lingering around, noting a few in particular. It was always good to be aware of who was about. It seemed a quiet night for a tavern, even in this part of town.
"Oh, I don't know. It depends on how long my captain decides to stay." she offered non-chalantly. She made a note to herself to check with her captain tomorrow. "He's got a bit of business to do in port."
She finished her stew and pushed the empty bowl toward the keep. The bread had been eaten long before, and only a few crumbs remained. She wiped those away with a rather delicate brush of her hand. Her tongue flickered over her lips, sweeping away any flavoring of the stew.
She shifted a bit, getting herself more comfortable. "How long are you here for?"
Arthur Pendragon - April 23, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
Arthur smiled and said," As long as need be, mostly for rumours of Dragons and Adventures, hopefully rumours of things long lost, things that people hope to return". He chuckled slightly and took another drink. He then said," Ofcourse I may stay for a few days I could earn a bit more gold by just performing somewhere, performers earn good gold these days, and I can perform".
Brynne - April 23, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
".....performers earn good gold these days, and I can perform".
Of that last bit, she had little doubt. Her lips quirked into a momentary smirk as her mind reeled through a few scenes of him performing. Even in his normal speech, it seemed to her, that he was putting on airs so to speak - making things bigger than needed.
"Rumors of dragons?" she looked at him then, letting her gaze sweep over him curiously. "Why?"
A curious thing to search for in her opinion. Why would anyone feel the need to pursue - willingly - such a dangerous creature as a dragon? Surely he coudn't ride it like a mount. Very few were able to do such things, she'd heard.
Arthur Pendragon - April 23, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
Arthur smield and said," Me Im a Dragon Slayer probably one of the best, I hunt and kill dragons for gold and glory, but mostly honor, the only thing is I only kill Evil Dragons I promised my father to never harm an evil dragon unless he harmed me first and so far I have never had to kill a good dragon, me I have to find out where the good dragons reside so that I can find where Evil dragons reside, good dragons lead to evil draons, evil dragons lead to honour and glory". He smiled at her and the bartender who had listned in went back to work and went to muttering again.
