Title: ARPer and ERPer index
Aloric - February 11, 2007 09:40 PM (GMT)
I was thinking it may be a good idea to compile an index of all the ARPers and ERPers that are currently active on the site, and post the list in the RP Requests and Plotting Forum. This list would include the name of the member's character, as well as the character's race, alignment, and class, and possibly a small section for important notes about the character. Characters/members on the list are open to receiving PMs and reading through plot ideas, and are interested in posting in new topics.
Let me elaborate further. The purpose of the list would not be to flaunt ARP and ERP status, but merely a locating device for members who want to find others who are on their level of writing ability. The list would be pinned to the RP Requests and Plotting forum because this is the forum people go to in order to look for people to RP with, and that's what this list is for. I've discovered that sometimes members choose to stick to small groups of friends to do all their RPing with, because they aren't sure where to find other people who strive for quality in their posts. Looking through some recent posts, I've found there are many gifted writers out there that I hadn't seen before, and I may one day wish to RP with them. Having a list of all advanced writers and notes about their characters makes it easy to find people who will develop a plot with you.
Should this idea be accepted, a topic would be started in RP Requests asking interested and qualified members to post the info required. The first post would be edited to include all of this info and could be sorted any number of ways, but probably by alignment.
I'd like to hear some feedback on this idea, and if there are any questions about my proposal I'd be happy to answer them. Let me know if I need to clarify anything :)
IMPORTANT EDIT: I just thought of something else that could be added to the list. Underneath each character's name, alignment, and race, a sample post of their work could be displayed. This way, people could browse through the sample posts and have a look-see at the member's style of writing to see if it's someone they'd like to RP with. The member would obviously be able to choose which of their posts were included as samples :)

Though it may take some work on the admin side (there are a lot of ARPers) it does sound like a good idea. Most people who are 'lacking' in RP topics may find this to be good, since they can check out who is at their level of play (avoids disappointment) and who they haven't RP'd with... for variety...
Though this work may require constant attention from an admin or a designated keeper... or maybe a player volunteer?

I agree with Sanzen. It's a great idea, and certainly would be a nice resource, but that is a lot of work on the admin side. I suppose it depends if the admins want to spend the time going through the enormous amount of ARPers and listing thier character descriptions.
I think perhaps people who have not been active on the site in over two months would not be on the list, so that people wouldn't be wasting time PMing members who are no longer active.

Like I said in my first post, the idea is to post a topic in which the interested ARPers and ERPers post their own information. The staff would simply copy and paste the posted info into the first post. Not every ARPer would be interested in being on this list, and only active ones would be put on, so it's in everyone's best interest if the members posted their own info :)

I'm not one to like, or even look at, suggestions, but this one takes the cake. Wow. That would actually be a very useful feature to the board, I hope Loth like it as well. Great job, Aloric! I guess good things do come in lame packages. :p

You can always go to members though and select the ARP or ERP group to find everyone who had that status.

That list includes inactive members, does not include character info, and does not include all ARPers and ERPers. ARPers who are in a guild will not be listed under that members group, they will be listed in their guild's group. Moderators, deities, and chosen will also not be on that list. It is not comprehensive.

Ah I like this idea! I've been looking for someone to roleplay with that will actually increase my writing skills, and have posts that are discriptive and fun to write along with. Having a list with a sample next to it would be awesome.
I can think of just the post I would put in my little discription :D
ohh, Aren't there only a couple ERPer's?

Well, if you want to see a list of everyone in the ARPer usergroup, you can already do that by vising the "Members" link at the top right of the board. On the bottom of that page you can choose the the ARPer group from the drop down list and it will show the profiles of everyone that is an ARPer.
Here is a link to the results of that search. Now, when it comes to creating such a list, there are 2 ways for me to compile that list. The first is by looking at the page I linked to just above. But if someone is in a guild they won't be on that list, they will be in their guild usergroup. The only way to track down those people is to read through all 303 posts in the ARPer application topic, and even then old ARPers might not be in there because the topic didn't exist for the first year or so of the board.
The part about putting information about each ARPer will require an insane amount of work that I cannot afford to do, so if anything is done, that will not be included. That's way too much work to ask of the staff when it's not even necessary. Looking at the link to the list of people in the ARPer group links to all their profiles so you can look at that yourself.
I also don't think that people want to be put on a list pinned somewhere and volunteered by the staff as people that are looking to RP. That should be a decision left up to the individual.
As far as I foresee, I won't be making this list or assigning anyone else to do it. There are resources available for finding the ARPer list, and I have mentioned them above. I don't think it's fair for me to have to do that work for you when you are all as capable as finding it as I am. And again, the list has a link to every profile so you can easily find all their information.

Aloric and I rediscussed this since I was unclear on some things, and I asked that he make some changes to his design. Now that it's talked over and changed, we'll be using it. I've had it changed so that all RPers that are interested will be in the index, not just A /ERPers. And Aloric's doing all the work. :D
Thank you, this suggestion has been implemented.
