Title: No Stray Dog
Description: Just a Wolf.

nacht - January 15, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
The wolf ran, it was … well it was just what she did. Wait, scratch that, she was only half wolf. Regardless, Nacht ran for there was nothing better and nothing else to do than run. But there was something different about this wolf, besides the fact that she wore a collar. It was those eyes of hers, such an unnatural soft violet and held so much more intelligence than that of mere animal. She was all animal true, predator and never prey, but if one cared to look close enough there was definitely something about this particular canine that set her apart.

After a time she reached the outskirts of a civilization. It meant a city, and where there was city it meant people. Sometimes people would give her food because they thought Nacht was just a big dog. Nacht had not been doing so well at hunting lately, humans kept scaring off her prey or the wolf packs would attack her for being a loner.

Finally she was walking through the city streets at an easy gait, the tattered leather collar about her neck easily given the unaware the illusion that she was only someone's lost dog. As her claws clicked softly against the cobblestone she passed into some nameless alley, it was here that she heard footsteps fast approaching. Surprised and curious, the young half breed sat near the wall of a nameless building and watched as who or whatever was running into the same alley passed her by. When they did, she gave a soft bark of query.

Kai sighed lightly as he wandered through the city streets, his hands in his pockets out of mild boredom, having paid a visit to the Syndicate of Blades headquarters but finding, as usual for the most part, nobody there. The guild just hadn't been that much lately, though he still wouldn't consider leaving. It was practically his home, and he'd given a lot to it. Even if people tended not to know him...

Shrugging these thoughts out of his head, he changed his course into an alley nearby, nearing the outskirts of the city, the streets getting a tad too crowded for his tastes during this time of midday, when lots of people had their breaks and went out to get some lunch. He never did like cities all that much, though that was mainly because of his history with being rejected from them.

Sniffing around a bit, he caught the scent of another canine nearby, probably a wolf, and walked over in that direction, spotting them quickly enough as they gave what seemed to be a curious bark. It was indeed a wolf, black with a ring of white around their throat, wearing a tattered leather collar, giving the impression that they probably belonged to someone. What was strange was those eyes...violet, an unusual color in itself, and with a hint of intelligence in them that he, being part animal himself, could easily notice.

"Can't say I see many wolves in the city," he said in a calm voice, which only had a small hint of the animal in him, mostly sounding like a human boy of his age. "You lost or anything?"

Silvexian - January 15, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
A wooden crate holding multiple fish shattered because of it being pryed open by a Metavion. Silvexian heard a loud bark nearby and begin to crawl over to the source. His red eyes scanned the area, and seeing two canines, he stepped back and snapped a stick before rolling on one half of it and rolling out in plain sight.

Raven Silverflame - January 15, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
Raven walked through the streets of Lomedor, Aegis at her side. The white wolf was restless today, and took the time to sniff at everything they passed. Some of the people seemed alarmed to see a wolf in the city, but most disregarded it. They were used to travelers having strange familiars.

Aegis paused at the entrance to an alley, sniffing the air. Raven stopped walking, turning around to wait for him.

“Aegis!” she called.

Aegis walked back to her side, grabbing her cloak in his teeth. He tugged slightly in the direction of the alley.

“What is it?” asked Raven, following her familiar into the alley. Another man stood there, along with a wolf. The wolf was black, with a ring of white around its neck, and a tattered leather collar. Aegis walked over to the wolf, uttering a series of growls and barks that Raven could not understand in her human form but which meant:

“What are you doing all alone here?”

nacht - January 16, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
Her head tilted, it seemed she had gotten more than she bargained for this day. The young wolf had known one person was heading this way sure, but with the appearance of two more and another wolf it was quite an event indeed. But Nacht was used to people, though some of them were not kind a lot of them could be. Nacht had met those of both extremes, kindness and cruelty, but not any race much more than the animals of the forest and humans, maybe an elf once but she couldn’t remember. At any rate, she was always curious, and it was this near human curiosity that often got her in trouble. The collar around her neck might have misled to the fact that she was lost, but in truth those who had given it to her were no longer living. But that was why she was out on this journey to begin with, to find a way to be human and get revenge. It was a much more difficult goal than she had first imagined, but even with death her loyalty to one person in particular remained ever strong.

She could not reply to the fox like person, being wolf she could not speak. It didn’t matter anyway as her attentions were drawn first by something or someone rolling into view. But most of all it was the appearance of a wolf followed by a girl. Nacht twitched an ear, glancing back and forth from one person to the other before looking back to the wolf an answering in kind. Now this, was someone who could understand what she had to say. Was just passing through city. Heard someone so stopped and said hello.

Raven Silverflame - January 16, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
Raven watched as her familiar looked around with caution, even pausing to sniff the fox-like man for a second. She sighed. Aegis was usually paranoid, but in Lomedor, it didn't help to be careful. To be honest, she didn't really want to hang around long either.

Aegis turned back to the other wolf.

"This is not a nice city," he growled, "Too many people, not all good."

Raven wondered dimly what the two of them were saying to each other. She considered shapeshifting to wolf form for a second, and listen in on the conversation. She put the idea out of her mind, letting her familiar talk. Aegis had not seen any of his own kind in ages, and it was probably a relief for him to have someone to talk to who could understand what he was saying. She had a feeling that the other wolf felt the same way.

nacht - January 16, 2007 07:52 AM (GMT)
She ignored the rest of them for now, let the humans and demi-humans talk, it wasn’t like she would be able to converse with them. Besides, Nacht meant human like creatures almost everyday, she rarely met up with her own kind. And even when she did, it was on less than pleasant occasions, life in the wild was tough for a lone wolf. She lifted a paw, shifting her position slightly in an effort to get comfortable. Some give me food. They think I only dog. Nacht was doing more than just following her stomach, but it seemed the simplest way of explaining for now. Hunting been difficult lately.

kai_fox - January 16, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
Looking around for a moment, Kai saw a few others show up, one...well, he wasn't really sure, as they rolled into view after apparently having stepped on and snapped a stick or something similar. The other was what appeared to be a human girl, with a white wolf of her own. Seemed this little alley visit had turned into a small crowd...not exactly something that happened every day, or more often something one would want to happen. But each of those around didn't really seem to be an immediate threat, so he wasn't worried.

“What are you doing all alone here?” the white wolf asked the black, the one that had barked out earlier, though not in any humanoid language. It was somewhat difficult for him to fully understand it, and he probably only could because he'd become somewhat more fox recently than human, but he understood nonetheless. Not that he gave any real indication of it, apart from perhaps a faint twitching of his ears, in order to pick up on all of it.

"Was just passing through city," the black responded. "Heard someone so stopped and said hello."

Kai couldn't help but feel somewhat...out of place, however. Two wolves here, while he was a fox with a mostly human shape, though he could set down into for the most part the form of a true fox.

"Well, if anyone needs food or anything like that, I suppose I could go out and get some..." he said somewhat awkwardly, his eyes directed off to the side, not at anything in particular. Inwardly he wished it was easier for him to talk to others, relate to others, but becoming more fox probably didn't do any good towards that.

Raven Silverflame - January 17, 2007 11:25 AM (GMT)
Aegis sniffed around slightly, apparently not liking what he smelled. He turned to the other wolf.

“Hunting has been bad,” agreed Aegis, “Too many creatures around. I am Aegis. Who are you?”

He sniffed at her for a second after his introduction. Aegis looked up at her, apparently noticing something strange.

“You are not all wolf,” he said, “And why do you have a collar? You have a master?”

There was something strange about this wolf, and yet somehow it didn’t make him paranoid like it did whenever he sensed strange things about humans. He had the feeling that she was after more than food though, and he was curious to know what. He was also curious to know why she had a collar. Raven had never made him to wear one, but then again, he followed Raven out of trust. He didn’t need a collar.

~ * ~

Raven meanwhile watched as the fox-like man asked about food. She turned to him. Did he understand what the wolves were saying?

“You can understand them?” she asked.

((OOC: This is the first time I’ve ever had to roleplay as Aegis before! ^__^))

Silvexian - January 18, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Silvexian decided it would be best to disappear. He started to creep back, but as soon as he turned around, a 7 foot man stood with a knife and held it to his throat. "Give me your gold!" Silvexian suddenly vanished, or at least, that was what it looked like to the bandit. He had actually become a Metallic Bug and silently went between the man's legs and changed into a Human Form. He held the dagger to the man's throat. "What was that again?" It would be best to cover your ears and look away. A huge scream was heard, and it wasn't Silvexian. Someone grabbed Silvexian's wrist. "You're coming with us!" They were here, and not for autographs. Silvexian changed into a Water Dweller and then instantly knocked the man away. They were trying to place him in prison! Silvexian took off, back into the alley with the wolves and piled behind some crates like a fort and pushed a long one over his hiding spot.

"What?! Where did he go?!"

nacht - January 20, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
Nacht. She answered softly. It sounded foreign to her now. She’d not heard nor spoken her own name for a long time. Her ears twitched, as if she heard something, faintly. But she dismissed it. I am half something else. Not dog, some other wild canine. I do not know. Nacht did not know her whole heritage, her parents and siblings had all died before she’d even had chance to meet them. Was raised by humans. But not as pet. They were … family.

Her gaze shifted, ears catching the fox person’s words and her head tilted curiously to one side. You understand? That was different, Nacht had never run across anyone not wolf or animal that understood her. But there was not the time to ask questions as a commotion quickly made itself present in this alleyway meeting.

Raven Silverflame - January 21, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
Raven looked up as a man entered the alley. She frowned, noting his appearance. The man was bloodstained, and in his hand, he held a dagger, still covered in blood. Aegis too, looked up, growling as he caught sight of the man.

Raven took an arrow from her quiver, fitting it to her bow. She turned to him.

"Who are you?" she asked, "If you're some sort of murderer trying to hide, you won't find refuge here."

She raised the bow, pointing the arrow at the man. In this city, one could never be quite sure of anyone. Aegis growled threateningly, both seeing and smelling the blood on the knife.

"Nacht," he growled, "Be on guard."

kai_fox - January 21, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
"You can understand them?" the girl asked, and Kai glanced over to her, nodding. It didn't seem the two wolves were paying attention to what he was saying, but he was kind of used to being ignored or rejected anyway, so it didn't bother him.

"For the most part, yes, though it takes some concentrating and really is only because I'm somewhat of a canine as well," he said, then looked over in curiosity at the faint commotion a bit further down in the alley. Hearing a familiar sound not far from him, he figured that it was the girl nocking a bow, ready to fire.

Not really sure what was going on here, but knowing full well that this man looked plenty threatening right now, he allowed his right hand to blaze up in a fireball, ready to toss if the need arose.
