Arda > Ungol Felas, the Spider Caves > The change

Title: The change
Description: [P] Zenith Meria

Nofurye Mando - December 29, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
I must find it, it is my destiny.

Nofurye was standing at the mouth of the spider caves, looking into the darkness with fear of what was beyond. He could hear the screams of the dead as he stood there, killed by the Norsaraneae. Many adventurers had wandered into the cave, searching for either refuge or the loot that is rumoured to be inside. many believe that there is a room filled with treasure, but Rye didn't come to Ungol Felas for a room filled with gold. It would be nice if there was for Rye needed the money, but it was highly unlikely there was.

Rye lit a torch in the camp fire and looked around. It was dawn and the Old man had spent the night at the foot of the Erod Annon, waiting for a friend. He might have been old, but he wasn't stupid enough to go in there alone. The Scholar had seen the Angel at the Keepers sanctuary two weeks ago and had asked him if he would accompany him into the spider caves. The holy angel accepted Ryes invitation and said he'd be there in two weeks at sunset. It was supposed to be yesterday’s sunset but the Angel hadn't turned up yet. Rye had waited all night for his friend to show up, but he didn't.

Something urgent must have happened.

Of course Rye wasn't stupid enough to go into Ungol Felas alone, but he was going to do it anyway. He was confident with his abilities and maybe the spiders would ignore him for he was skinny and old. The Old man was brave but didn't think could make it out alive. He tipped a bucket of water on the camp fire and left a letter on a stump he used for a seat. The letter said the following:

To Zenith,

Where have you been! I have waited all night and you still
haven't showed up. You know the caves are safest when it is
dark for that is when the spiders settle down and eat what they
have managed to catch during the day. It is currently dawn
and I am going into the caves without you. This weapon will
help the Keepers and there fight against chaos. I feel as though
I can't wait for if I do, It will not be there when I get there. If you
find me dead, find the sword and bring peace to Arda.

Yours sincerely

-Rye

I can't wait. It's in danger; it calls for me to come as quickly as possible. Something’s wrong.

This was it. The Scholar held the torch in his hands and walked towards the mouth of the cave once more. He looked to the skies and when he saw nothing there, walked into the darkness. He held his staff in his left hand and the torch in his right, ready to defend against the evil that lurked within. The smell of death filled Ryes nostrils and the only sound came from the dirt that crunched under his feet. There was nothing but spider webs at the entrance and as he walked, they became more numerous. He made sure to look on the roof of the cave for that is where they might be hiding to take there prey without a fight. Rye looked back, the light of the coming from the mouth getting smaller as he walked. There were no turns as of yet, but he knew that there would be a detour sooner or later.

I can feel it getting closer, even if it's only slightly.

As soon as the old man had this thought, the tunnel decided to branch into three different tunnels. It was what Rye feared but he came prepared. He pulled a long piece of chalk out of his pocket and marked the cave wall to the right, for that was the tunnel that made him closer to his destiny, he could feel it. About a minute later, Rye saw a few baby spiders sitting in a web. This web looked as though it was recently made and the mother had obviously left them to go hunting.

They must be close.

He looked behind him, above and in front and could see no sign of a fully grown Norsaraneae. He knew they would become more numerous as he continued to walk and he would have to be on his guard. These caves were huge and there was still a long way to go until Rye got to his goal. The sword he was looking for was light and powerful. It would help him in the years to come for he knew that chaos was rising and the Realm of Arda would be engulfed with evil soon enough. His job, along with the other Keepers, was to protect Arda and its citizens. Holiness could never be destroyed while The Keepers were still here, protecting it until they would fight no more.

The old Scholar walked, burning the spider webs with his torch and clearing them away with his staff. He was surprised that he hadn't seen any of them yet and thought that the spiders were just a rumour, until he stepped out of the tunnel and into a cavern. He almost ran away for they were just there, giant spiders half the size of Rye and they weren't too happy about the light that just filled the natural hall.

Some of them were making horrible sounds, screeching and clicking as the moved towards the old man. Rye didn't know what to do, the intelligent beasts’ fangs dripping with venom as they tried to scare the intruder away. Of course they wanted him for it wasn't very often that a piece of meat that size ventured into the caves. It was a treat that happened very rarely and they fought over there prey once it was dead. For that was all Rye was to them, a carcass that was breathing and would soon be lifeless. He prepared to cast a spell, many of the Norsaraneae moving towards him. It was quite intimidating, but Rye was confident that he could squish these bugs before they could squish him.
